😁 You would be surprised how quickly mostly everybody in the world moves on with something.... because... you know....we just don't give a damn about it if it's not truly affecting us......Herc is probably more like Oh well that's done on to the next after arresting "Avon ummmm what's his face?"........lol
Ha, yep, he really doesn't give a fuck. That's why I thought it was so grimly hilarious what they did to his character, having him basically fail upwards into a cushy job working security for the mayor, lucks into becoming the mayor's special 'friend' after accidentally witnessing him getting a blowjob, and then even when he gets sacked from that he gets to be a supposed 'private investigator' for Levy, which I have to imagine is incredibly lucrative. Not only that, the fact he randomly fires a nail from Snoop's nailgun is crucial in later matching it to the bodies in the vacants, and also flagrantly breaches client-attorning privelege by handing over Marlo's phone number. He goes through the entire show not giving a fuck and manages to be both highly rewarded and crucial to investigations. Oh, and let's not forget that he also basically ruined Randy's entire life through his carelessness. So much going on in that show.
The writers did a great job with the details of every character. Here works on a major case for months and cannot remember the target’s name. Then later on in the series his inability to remember details for police protocols cost him his job. Great writing!
@@MrCHITOWN247 he pretty much already was at that point, notice how whenever Stringer and Slim were in the same room with Avon, it looked like Slim always had priority over String
Tray-von Smith he is everything that is good about a gangster, he has a code, he’s honest, respectable - if there was one who deserved to make at the end, it was our brother Slim bro ✌🏻
Tarik Tokalija she's a fuckin cop. Even then she kept it thorough and only mentioned little man instead of throwing both webey and little man under the bus.
Herc's head being out of the game was the most in the game attitude in the department. EDIT: To be fair, there was also that lieutenant with the beach house.
Whats funny is that Herc can't remember Avon's name or case but as soon as his partner says, "Pig beef from the market", Herc replies, "See, know your thinking like police." 😂😂😂
To Herc, "Barksdale" was pretty much the name of the investigation, he didnt really care who Avon was. Not to mention that there were many other members of the Barksdale family involved
@@devan1715 did you really say this was a flaw in writing or how this was so genious in its own way considering the character of herc was written, this was the most herc of saying and doing things, little details like these are what wire the greatest show ever.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂I Knew I Wasn't The Only Person Who Was Like They Just Said Barksdale Damn Herc That's His Crew Name After Avon Last Name That's Herc More A Cop Than Police The Paycheck N Status No Care At All!!!!!1❤️
All the work they did seems to have gone to waste. But it's almost a waste of time anyway when you think about it. Avon gets popped and Marlo takes over anyway, they get Marlo out of the way and Slim and the others take over. It's like in the movie King of New York, "I'm not your problem, I'm just the business man" - Frank White.
In fact, the cops are sometimes counterproductive. They arrest Avon before he can kill Marlo and Marlo takes over the streets and starts murdering people who haven't been involved with the law enforcement or the criminals like the lady in Andre's store and the security guard. The cops who end up winning are the cops who acknowledge that they're one of the people benefiting from the war on drugs (because of their salary and their authority over the drug dealers).
Chace McLees He knows who it is he just can't remember his name is all. He even knew Avon wasn't supposed to be out yet but because he saw him he started doubting his memory of how many years Avon got.
No man. Remember, it's been 2 years since the old investigation. How many guys do you think he has locked up, how many criminal lineups has he seen, how many people has he seen in the street, in the last 2 years since? You have no idea of how many people cops brush against.
2:20 Herc literally mentions Barksdale after Kima and then forgets his name and says big boy. One of the few confusing bits of dialogue in the brilliance that is the wire
@@andrew7taylor Yeah its a bit weird... he said 'Avon what's his face' with the other cop.... Kima says Barksdale, he said Barksdale... then he says I saw "big boy" which would suggest he knows Avon is Barksdale, and could easily clarify without them guessing Stringer... McNulty and them are a bit weird for saying stringer but I guess they think Avon locked up... dunno
@@PreeMarketI think the point is Herc is a bit dim, and doesn't really follow the thread. He knows a bunch of names and police jargon but doesn't know how to assimilate them into a coherent worldview. He's just a lunkhead that knows how to be muscle and carry out orders but has a very limited grasp of the world around him. This was even more obvious when he was working for Levy.
Theres no better way to watch this clip then with a decent pair of headphones. When Barksdale cuts around the corner, gives PoPo the look, and Headsprung is playing in the background.....you get chills.....
The Wire only show where fans comment that characters like Herc, Syndor, Freamon, Cutty, Butchie, Nicky, etc are underrated or top 5 favorite characters in the show. And they wouldn't be wrong for it.
I can't lie when I hear the music playing in the background of these video's, it makes me miss music from back in the day and how much better it used to be. Now it's all about the 808 bumping or the auto tune sounding good to where anyone can be a rapper these day's lol. Back then you had to be witty and sound good. You had to bring bars, make your own style and prove why you deserved to be on top. From word play to songs telling you a story that made you visualize it in your head. For example Em's Stan or Biggie Notorious just to name a few. Now 90% of song's are just about bragging about what they bought or drugs and girls they gotten up with lol. Ya miss the older stuff forsure. What about y'all? You miss the old rap with word play and bars? Or do you not care an just want the 808s to bump?
@@StainsStainsStains The difference is back in the day from artists you had to be more talented then the person before you could make it in the game. They had to rely skill, word play and actual skill to produce good music. Now these day's none of that matters cause as long as the 808's are bumping and you throw autotune into their vocals is the only way they sound good. Take that away and what you got? Talentless kid's that rely too much on technology to be good. My overall point is you can't compare real rap to today's rap because it's not the same. Yes some people these day's do have talent and I respect them for that. They deserve where they got and it's no shame towards them. But if you listen to the ones without talent or autotune it's night and day compared to how it was back in the day. You could take LL Cool J and put him against any artist that uses autotune and make them rap on a mic and see the difference js. That's my whole point. You're entitled to your own opinion and it doesn't have to be the same as mine. But as long as you respect mine I'll always respect yours :) have a good day 😊
0:53 - This is where Avon needed the old String. String, back when he was loyal to Avon as the 2nd in command. String would have told Avon that they should scope out Marlo to see what he was up to. String would have gotten someone to infiltrate their crew to find out what was going inside Marlo’s crew, while Avon setup shop. Avon was naturally a better King then String, but Avon really needed a loyal String as the ‘Queen’ of the operation, to go out and get stuff done. Slim was good in his role, but he lacked String’s business/operational savvy. United Avon and String take down Marlo’s crew no problem. The Barksdales faced a formidable challenge with Marlo, but they essentially collapsed from within.
Couldnt have said it better. People give String too much credit in trying to reform the drug trade. He should've stayed in his lane and never got off track. I mean him and Avon were ruling West Baltimore with an iron fist for years, so why change things up? t's why I respected Avon and Marlo. They knew what they were and didnt play any "away games"
this just shows this whole game is like chess, traveling across the hoods to conquer corners while the rival is doing the same thing with your non maintained corners
People not realizing that Herc 100% remembers Avon barksdales name, but his hyper macho bravado won't let himself admit that he remembers out loud is peak
We are talking about Avon Barksdale here, not the corner boys who are just doing a little dirt just to get by, or the drug addicts who are physiologically unable to shake their demons. I have no problem with the law letting guys like bodie, D'angelo, bubbles, wallace etc. get away with what they do. Hell, even the police turn a blind eye to what they do. But Avon man, he's gotta go away for a long time, and deservedly so.
