Yeah, she probably was fine with all until he joined. Then she went "Oh shit, oh shit, oh shit." and quickly stopped Geralt mostly from kill everyone protecting him. xD
Funny comment, but why does everyone wank Geralt? That isn't to say that Geralt isn't a badass or that he isn't the most skilled man in any given room, but you throw enough well-equipped, competent men at him and he's going to eventually go down. Geralt got out of this situation in one piece because of the chaos of it all. Trust me, if everyone there focused their sights on Geralt specifically, he'd be a goner.
@@RatchetandSly lol not really and not in that situation. Witcher’s do have enhanced reflexes and shit. And I’m sure he’s the most skilled sword fighter there. Sure some of those other knights and people would be skilled with a sword fighting other humans but none of them could fight the creatures Geralt has. You’d especially notice that if you ever played the Witcher games
@@vietnameeseguy Yes, Geralt has enhanced reflexes and if he is under the influence of potions, he is incredibly dangerous. However, when Geralt is not under the influence of potions, he is significantly less dangerous. He had to take potions in order to fight Renfri and her band (in The Last Wish book). Geralt is 'sober' here. If everyone in the room focused on Geralt, he would not have been so lucky. I'm making this argument because a Geralt who is vulnerable is much more interesting than a Geralt who is unstoppable. For the record, I have played and beaten all 3 games, watched the series, and have read halfway through the book series.
@@HWDragonborn hell no. The Skelligens are the ones who fought with Eist, not against him. Plus, no Skelligen needs a knife to fight when they have their fists.
dude cuts down 13 of the realm's finest knights in roughly a minute - and that's just what was shown on screen. I would expect cultured/educated knights to be more reluctant fighting such a famed witcher as Geralt.
That's the point. Witchers are trained to be continuously moving in combat, hence why they use light armours and don't use shields. You aren't going to out-strength a werewolf or deflect a dragon's fire. But you can easily roll away from incoming attacks.
@@dionjaywoollaston1349 a mix of vikings and celts, their names/placenames are heavily influenced by the Irish language but a lot of their customs/traits would be very viking like
Cian Mc sweeney yeah or names that describe what said viking is skilled at like: Eric skull crusher, or theobror the cleaver. And it’s more than just their traits/customs it’s also their clothing, religion (their chief god is literally named Freya) and hierarchy
Also they use actual fighting logic. The Butcher of Blaviken fight was good, but they fought on at a time in an open street when any real thugs would surround and beat you senseless. In this scene Duny gets beat up because he gets surrounded, then as Geralt and Eist join the fight we see them keeping the area between them clear so they each only have to worry about attacked from a specific direction. Combined with amazing choreography that reflects each of their martial training (Witchers continuously moving, Skelligans wrestling each other, Duny pivoting but staying in place) this is easily one of the greatest fight scenes ever recorded despite it being so short.
and IGN says this fight is so slow and not coordinated like it was a backround fight in game of thrones..... Literally I don't know what the fuck they are talking about. Awesome job! Can't wait for the second season.
rentonis game of thrones only had 2 good fight scenes one brienne and arya but that was cringy and another was martel and mountain both were 1v1 otherwise there wasn't any good squad fight
to be honest fight scenes in game of thrones are slow and boring, with some exceptions of course, like oberyn vs the mountain. Most of the times all the emotion was not about looks of the fight, but that we didn't know who is going to get out alive from the fight. Here we kinda know who is going to live but fights look amazing.
Jordan Pilz Wow didnt know that. well now he is doing better job! or i guess now he has the freedom to do it! Maybe he is so angry how night king died so making good shit like this is helping
Well yeah, but you are thinking of modern standards. Back in the 'day', they were married off around 12. First child soon after.. Its one of the reasons we Europeans traditionally venerate elderly women more than men. They are literally the mothers of us all .. and with a 50% mortality rate in child-bearing, that earns respect.
Sowasi 26 wait wait wait. As in the god-emperor of nilgaard who everyone else is raving about? That... actually makes sense now that I think about it, but then why not take pavetta and cirri back home with him? And he doesn’t ACT like a god-emperor right now. Tragic backstory incoming?
Man henry cavill really mastered that sword he's almost dancing with it moving fluidly from one guard to another Very reminiscent of the way geralt moves in the games the way he spins around from one enemy to the next
@@CrowofYharnam "Despite the fact that Ciri was his daughter and only child, he wanted to marry and have a child with her, because, as Ithline's prophecy said, Emhyr would rule half the world, and Ciri's son would rule all of it."
@@CrowofYharnam Yennefer, Geralt and Ciri's story are set at different times. How do you not know that? And that is NOT the same actress as Ciri, as Ciri is played by Freya Allan and Pavetta is played by Gaia Mondadori. Yennefer's story starts at least 20-30 years prior to Geralt's story (which is clearly obvious by episode 5 and 7), Geralt's story starts 12-13 years before Ciri's story. Ciri's story is set in the "present time" and is the furthest ahead in the timelines, which all eventually converge at the same time. The Books were written this way, and you call it "Bad storytelling" despite it being very obvious that their timelines are set differently in accordance to the books to allow the characters to build without overlapping with another's story, and allows us to suddenly understand where the puzzle pieces fall into place.
I liked that Geralt sort of scanned the situation before getting involved, it's almost as if he's counting how many guards there were before deciding whether or not he would interfere. Awesome if that was the intention :D
Geralt definitely isn't like that though. He'd get involved in situations like this, like he always has. He was definitely counting because he knew he had to fight them.
I don't think he was weighing the odds of his survival, probably more making sure he knew how many there were so he didn't miss any (i.e. so he wasn't left with someone standing behind him), or to see if he wants to have that much more blood on his hands.
@@KeithJDavies Agreed. I think that's more likely. No disrespect to the OP, but Geralt's never been the type to refuse to fight because he's afraid of death. Suicide missions are literally his thing. Witchers know the risks. Death comes with the job. To them, it's nothing more than an occupational hazard. There's a reason why they say "No witcher has ever died in bed." He fought a Striga until dawn bare-handed when he could have simply killed her. No, Geralt only hesitates to fight when he doesn't want others to get hurt.
@@raiden6428 The way I read that expression was that Geralt was trying to figure out if if the Urchon of Erlenwald could win the fight without him. Geralt has no hesitation to offering his aid in fighting, but he wanted to give the man a chance to win his own battles. If you rush in a save a man he'll feel indebted to you the rest of his life, instead of you let them handle it on their own they can feel liberated and free. There are some fights that you should let people handle on their own. However, as more and more knights rushed to join the fight Geralt eventually decided that honor was no longer a factor and now it was time to just win the fight.
@@jordyboy321 No way! I felt Triss and Fringilla(and the elf following Ciri) were boring and forgettable. Everyone else pretty much nailed it. Just my opinion though
-So, how was your wedding? -Oh it was beautiful!! We married in the castle gardens. The sun shone bright and I could heard the birds chirping while I walked to my husband to take his hand, and then kissed while everyone applauded. What about you, Pavetta? How was your wedding? -Well...
a witcher slaughtered my entire moms castle guard and proceded to lift the curse put on my boyfriend after which before which i almost screamed everyone to death with my space time god powers so i guess it went fine
@@vherox3826 Oh..... Wonderful..... How about you Lord Edmure? How was your wedding? I'm sure a wedding between the Tullys and Freys would be beautiful. Edmure Tully: ......I don't want to talk about it.......
I think that the scene pretty accurately captures Geralt’s fighting style, the twirls and spins capture how he moves in the games brilliantly, without having to use CG or heavily editing footage
This scene, with the lights, the feeling of it, everything, even the looks, this scene looks like a video game. It's truly amazing, Geralt is dancing while fighting, Calanthe is a badass like always, the Skelligens are just like the books. I love this scene!
I think it had something to do with the costume designer wanting to show the Nilfgaardians as patriarchy. They fired them after this season and are gonna have a different costume designer for season 2. I could be wrong tho.
Since this episode he has Renfri's brooch attached on his sword. Lovely. Pity she wasn't there more. She could. I like her. Best female character for me...
@@MrScorpion888x Imagine if Charles Dance play as Emhyr in the future season. Holy shit, i really don't care about the look, i will freak the fuck out, man.
I just love that that high place nobel just gives it all up. Only because "the law of surprise has been called." Unwavering unquestionable but not blind loyalty to principles older than lordship.
Fun fact for anyone old enough to remember:- The actress playing Queen Calanthe (Jodhi May) also plays the young Alice Munro in The Last of the Mohicans :-O
1:40 "Stop!" - as the girls in the background are murdering people with wooden spoons... "Hell hath no fury..." Oh, and during the whole fight Mousesack just calmly stands there like it's another Tuesday for him.
I remember getting so excited over this scene. Casual watchers at this point don't know what the Law of Surprise is. But it's serious enough to get the Queen upset, and for men to draw arms with intent to kill when it gets invoked. And awesome for Geralt stepping in, to try and do the right thing, whether he believes in Destiny or not. And the Queen is struggling with her passions, vs. the significance of the Law. She doesn't want her daughter to be married to the cursed hedgehog, but she knows she screwed up when she called for Dunny's head.
Now imagine. Did geralt jump over the table and stairs in one succesful jump, or he slowly crawl over the table and then walk down the stairs one by one..
I mean come on this has to be a side jab at GoT or something. Because the Guy even exactly sounds like Snow when he says it. This can't be a coincidence
A lot of fans are now signing a petition to have the crappy showrunners removed and that's probably why Henry is no more. They think they can just do whatever with a story we deeply love, they think they can milk us for money by replacing the one we like, they don't give a damn about the wishes and feelings of their own fans, but in the end they won't collide with nothing but hatred for what they've done... If you're interested, I can share the link to the petition, anyway, as a way to support Henry and his beautiful incarnation of Geralt of Rivia.
As someone who only played the games and didn't start reading the novels until they first announced the Netflix series. I was so excited to see this moment in the show and many more from The Last Wish. It makes me only want to continue reading them even more. I need more Witcher! More seasons! More books! More games! :)
