The college I worked at had a professor that was an old Boomer, and he drove a Prowler. Being a gearhead, he stuffed a twin turbskie V8 into it. No idea what engine, but he had it howling. He was a tiny guy, a mousy English prof, but he was good with cars.

The problem was that the 5.2 and 5.9 Magnum V8 of the time only ran about 230 and 245 horsepower respectively and they were boat anchors. That 3.5 in the prowler had about 253 and it was a whole lot lighter. Now had that car been designed in the day of the Hemi, it might have been a different story.

The 360 magnum can make good power just needs some flat top pistons, with only headers cam and intake changed they make more hp than a gen 3 hemi and a good bit more torque which is what matters on the street.

With hellcat/demon/hellephant crate engines being more accessible and more mechanics being skilled in doing the swaps, these v6 prowlers have become hotcakes. I’ve seen low mileage ones going for $30k

That would of been a good car with either a 318 or 360 magnum or 3rd gen hemi.if it came out when the 3rd gen hemi arrived.

Exactly, they didn't have a cool V-8 engine for the car in the day, I love the 318-360 in a truck, but not cool to look at

Unfortunately those engines were kind of boat anchors. They didn't have a whole lot of power and they were heavy as hell.

@@cargotoolshop5319they could of made the magnum motors pretty for the prowler, change out the keg intake and put headers a simpler accessory bracket and proformance valve covers.

If the six was a beast, it would’ve been more popular. Look at that last 87 or 88 Buick Grand National with the intercooler and turbo; it was a burnout machine.

It was never about the car. It was always about the technology. And the 3.5 l V6, was one of the most technologically advanced engines of the time. After having almost completely destroyed their reputation with the 2.7. 3.7. 4.7. 5.7. They screwed up so bad, Mercedes couldn't even bail them out. They screwed Dodge up so bad... They don't even make a pick ups anymore. Their employees took over the whole pick up division. And let's face it, the most innovative thing they've done since 1997, was sell the company, twice.

In fairness, the 4.7 Magnum V8 that the new HEMI engines are based on, was for the Prowler. IDIOT Chrysler executives put it in the Jeep Grand Cherokee instead. Like with the Shelby 3.3 Turbo and AWD system developed for the 80s Dodge Daytona...they put it in the Caravan.
