Pikmin Bloom would be so good if it wasn’t developed by Niantic. I loved giving all my Pikmin stupid names, getting to take AR photos of your Pikmin was really cool, seeing what they’d bring back after an expedition or breaking a mushroom was cool, and I loved what costume they would find when they maxed out their Friendship level. Hell, I even appreciated the incentive it gave me to go outside and explore way beyond where I normally ran in my neighborhood. And then I hit the maximum limit of 300 Pikmin and the game came to a screeching halt. I’ve never been into buying microtransactions, so instead of increasing the maximum limit in increments of 50 (which is just a pitiful amount) I realized I couldn’t pluck any more Pikmin without sacrificing the ones I already owned, so I stopped the game. There’s a genuinely good game within Pikmin Bloom, but it’s potential is squandered by Niantic’s unwillingness to remove the maximum Pikmin limit and the lack of any meaningful content updates, like possibly combat or finding treasure.
