My understanding is the general usage is as follows: 1. Get outraged over something innocuous that turns into something terrible. 2. A platform that essentially encourages you (because of the inherent short form nature) to say something terrible and act like it’s innocuous. 3. The unicorns who actually use it for quick benign updates. Zoup stepped into the second option. Badly.

This is a rather small drama compared to some of the older ones IMO. One I highly recommend to look up is the Puerto Rico PR disaster. (PR PR disaster) Another is Makarov Gate (Shortlist Controversy) Plus the "still ongoing" CV Rework is still ongoing more than a year later.
I would like to add some of the drama surrounding Commander Skill Rework and Dead Eye. And I am sure Submarines and Dutch Cruisers with Airstrikes are going to bring some drama as well.
I think the saddest part about this is seeing Zoup purging the comment section of the video in question of any comment that questions him or calls him out. Speaks volumes about a person.

Yea I had no idea any of this was happening, and on Flambass's stream earlier today the chat was mentioning the "Zoup incident" and I had no idea what it was about. I've watched some of his vids, but I didn't regular his channel. I knew he was a CC and I was kinda like "oh that's sad. He probably was happy about that like Flamu was when he was axed. Probably WG doing the same thing." I forgot about it until now. Thanks for the update. I'm gonna go watch his side and see what he thinks to be better educated on the situation.

When he mentioned iChase as a "culprit" my first reaction was "what?!" Moral of the story is: always see a story from multiple angles before jumping on a conclusion
If you want something a little more realistic, but a steeper learning curve try war thunder, I moved from wows and wot to WT. The naval modes aren't the best, but they are still pretty fun.

Many people in America feel that the government wants to take away their freedoms and feel that the pandemic was used or even created for that purpose. It’s one of those thing where you kind of have to live at a place for a few years to fully understand the mind set of the country.
Let me try to add something then. In my country, Brazil, which has nothing to do with the US, politicians and bureaucrats used the pandemic to increase their own power to crack down on individual freedoms. Somes states passed down legislation to essentially prohibit people who aren't vaccinated to do anything. They can be fired from their jobs, they can't go to public spaces, can't go watch a movie, can't take public transportation, are not allowed to go to school, can't have a public job and so on. They've literarily become a second class citizen. Our supreme court, consisting of enlightened dictators, will unsurprisingly apply such oppressive legislation over the entire country. So, there is that.

I axed Zoup from the list of people I follow about a year ago. He's always been quite unsettling, attacking othe CC on their opinions like when they criticized WG for the Puerto Rico debacle. That video then brought on you tube hurt WG financially a lot (and well deservingly) but it also alienated Flamu to them and they caught the first occasion (less then 2 months later) to get rid of him. Zoup is a completely different matter: they would have happily kept the Shill but Flamu threw the shit into the vent and they had to pull the the plug to save appearances.

I dont pretend to know all aspects of for instance the US politics and society. However, i do see there is a difference in understanding of "freedom of speech" between myself and it seems the American understanding. Freedom of speech apparently lets you say everything you want. However, there are also consequences attached to it. In Belgium (I'm Belgian) you go to jail for saying the Nazi's didn't put Jews and other minority groups in camps and murder them. That is an extreme example of course, however, I see in Zoup's case the same action/reaction. He says something. Fine for him. I don't agree with his statement. Also fine. Disregarding he made a wrong quote, wrong picture, etc, I think his statement erodes the gravity of events he is referring to. Him being sacked is due to Zoup's statements not complying with a contract he signed. As for the erosion citizens' rights, I don't see this in my country. I can't comment on your situation, as I don't know it. Yes, covid has resulted in often very questionable laws. We have had an evening curfew. We still have bars and restaurants partially closed. And many businesses are still fully closed. And that sucks bigtime. Mainly for the owners and employees. Many people have a big non health impact due to Covid and only time will tell what the right approach to the pandemic was. I can only say that these rules are being withdrawn as soon as possible, but, at least in Belgium, making sure the public health system didn't collapse was the main driver. Again, time will tell. I do see governments (mine included) introducing very strict laws to curve down the pandemic, only to follow up with exceptions that negate all the effort asked previously. For instance, we had stay at home laws, mask mandates and mandatory curfews, but when a political party had their anual gathering, they were ok in giving a thumbs up for estimated 30k-50k people attending it. And this was last year. When everything was red hot. And no, I'm not in the EUA. So I see his side of the argument, but phrased it so poorly that it is comically stupid. And it's such a bad take that he wasnt the only one drawing those parallels. You'll see a lot of american celebs and politicians using the same argument. @A_Sitting_Duck Something I despise about most political “discussions” and many overly-simplistic views of history. The world is shades of grey, and ignoring that causes massive problems. In my experience, the most common are painting an opponent as worse than they actually are or not recognizing something nefarious because it aligns with your views. In this case, Zoup did both, painting any opponent evil and not recognizing the terrible things he said as terrible.

You cannot use any social media platform as a place to vent or grandstand your opinions or to present something you heard or read about as fact. I think the only similar places you have the luxury of being able to make mistakes are places like private discord servers or strictly anonymous platforms like 4chan. His 1st mistake was having his opinionated media in any way linked to any sort of formal media. You can have a personal professional media with all your name, family, friends, business, etc linked, but NO SENSITIVE STUFF on there. Make an unrelated alt for your opinions on sensitive topics so when hell breaks loose, you don't wind up compromising your livelihood. His 2nd mistake was all the reasons his sensitive tweets he got called out for: misquotes, tone deafness, memeing too close to the sun, etc. His 3rd mistake was doubling down. The only thing that separates most of us here from him is just his 1st mistake. Everyone else here has been guilty of his 2nd and 3rd mistakes at one point of another, but the problem is on social media, you are no longer allowed to make mistakes and grow as a person. People will now always hold those tweets as your eternal unchanging opinion and never let it go. Bad for any professional image. That 1st mistake is the only reason any of this matters.

Well I can only say there's huge different between "read between the line" and "cross the line". And hey we're all mature, you make mistake then admit it and apologize. It takes a lot of courage to say to yourself: "yes I've made a mistake here."
I wouldn't say he definitively crossed the line because the line is an arbitrary gradient run by a company seeking how best to milk the fanbase. No one should be cheering the cancelling of a CC. I said the same thing with Flamu, and I'll say it here.
Not sure I agree with that in every case, but he definitely set himself up for it. Sometimes you get people who dont like you, but that doesn't mean you make it easy for them.

Whatever you think about, the statements Zoup made. In my opinion, he sabotaged himself by not properly researching quotes and so on... For example, he is right about the similarity between the Quote (not from H*****) and the takeaway of rights in Germany. Please don't think, I am arguing for this. There are similarities, but the situation is definitely not the same! If he really wanted to help the situation, he could've made a video about his fears and thoughts and explained it properly (which is his right as a person). Because in a 150 character Twitter post, you can get so much misunderstood. - Last advice for comments: Be friendly
Adition: The CC rules are against legislation in Europe and can't hold up legal debate. (You are not allowed to silence someone politically just because you don't like it. However, you are allowed to distance yourselve from Political speeches. But he didn't say H***** was good or sth. he just said similar and a misquote therefore no actual political statement...)
@@miendust I seriously doubt that the CC rules are against ANY legislation - European, Asian, American (definitely not). There is nothing illegal about the rules or their response. They did not silence him; just took away CC perks previously given.
He sabotaged himself twice. First, by going where any rational, reasonable individual wouldn't go. Second, by doubling-down and deflecting. He could have very easily recovered and preserved his CC status by merely swallowing his pride and sincerely apologizing. He choked on his pride. There are not any similarities. No ***RIGHTS***, real or imagined, are being infringed, muchless taken away. If you want a real mindtrip, lookup Jacobson v. Massachusetts. (Hint, vaccine mandates are considered constitutional.)

Agreed, also to me it shows how sore Flamu is about his removal from the CC program, up until this I was a fan of Flamu with his "freedom of speech" attitude, this whole thing shows more about him than it does about Zoup or iChase!
It is much better without him. Several times, the rest of the CCs were pointing when WG did some mistakes, but he was absolutely not-logically defending WG using some cheap arguments. Also, he was advocating mistakes in game, like pushing all in one place, lack of cross fire, lack of map control. He was failing to recognize them. So through some of his videos he has actually lowering the quality of the playerbase watching him. So absolutely no regrets from my side for him losing the CC, really.
Zoup was the kind of CC shill, he'd piss on your boots and tell you it was raining. Every WG product was good, every controversy was an accident and every conspiracy theorist is a ''critical thinker'' Lmao!

I STILL don't forgive him after he did a 180 on his own T7 California video. In the first video, that was his true feelings. The 2nd video was clearly BS. And let me just say this, iChase is 100% an upstanding member of the WoWs community. I was APPALLED that Zoup had the GALL to try to deflect like that!!! Zoup's been wrong SO many times before and he's wrong again.
My fave Zoup twist was watching him defend Trump all year based on "military grounds" and then choking hard on the Jan 6 insurrection and trying to pretend it never happened.

I imagine that probably translates into how much you put into WoWs currently since you tend to be busy with other things. At least in your gameplay videos you frequently state how it's your first time playing in a few weeks or something lol. I could make the assumption that because of all that you're not the most active CC in the world anymore BUT you do still have Social Media and of course RU-vid here that you are able to come onto and check up on from time to time. I think Zoup is far from being pure evil. I just think he has some pointed opinions and a tragically short Twitter temper. His problem was not seeing that people will judge you for how you say something more than what you meant to say. It's a shame all around.
It comes down to his ignorance and its not even about not seeing that people will judge you, it's about understanding that if you offend people with your statement/content rather than sit back on your high horse and claim "free speech" and get defensive you should reflect on why that has offended people or why it's wrong or if you made a mistake. It's also worth pointing out that if you're going to post something political or about a specific person in history (AKA Hitler in this case) and take a stance in a certain way you better know everything about what you are posting that is potentially controversial otherwise you end up looking like a damn fool.

I didn't get very far into zoup's victim complex video before going to find what exactly he said to get booted. Then proceeded to unfollow him. He crossed the line so many ways. I genuinely don't follow Twitter crap and had I seen his Twitter id have unfollowed him a while ago.
Hi iChase, I’ve always been a big fan of your RU-vid posts, and constantly send noobie WoWS Redditors to your “how to” playlists. I absolutely agree that Zoup dug his own Internet grave. Not a big fan though that you felt you needed to chime in. The popcorn posts were priceless and perfect, I.e., not piling on, and Flamu had it well under control pointing out Zoup’s lack of discretion. I do question the “need” you felt to post a “summary” on Twitter, however, and for this vid (even though, like a sucker, I did just watch this clip). I know you’ve been hard at work/school, so when I heard that iChase had chimed in too, I have to admit, I would have rather seen actual WoWS content, after such long pauses of content, versus jumping into a Twitter war. Just my opinion. I have zero stake in the actual argument as I am fully vaccinated, and believe Zoup chose some wayyyyyyyyy poor taste in choices to express himself, but I think he DCP’d too early and would have been flamed to death even by his own followers, let alone the legions of Flamu followers. I've always disliked Zoup as he has historically shilled for WG on many issues that warrant criticism. I might agree with some of his politics but him using his CC platform for political shit and expecting no backlash is a stupid take. But alternatively, if I'm a Chinese CC and proceeds to support my nations concentration camps and shady practices you think WG will remove me from CC? Look at the NBA, NFL, Nike, Disney etc :D

It’s to bad. I liked his “roll with the changes” attitude about games changes like DE, CV rework, and up coming subs. I had already unsubbed from other CCs who to a more alarmist approach, for more clicks IMO. But that level headedness has its limits I guess. Anyone going round spreading that anti vax BS gets no support from me. None. He probably also thinks Trump is still his CinC. Those two beliefs tend to overlap. I wish the military would crack down on “not grounded in reality” public statements like WG did.

And, that you are not supposed to be making political statements while also presenting yourself as a military member. Social media blurs those lines from when I was in, but the military has the tools it needs with the UCMJ.

Thanks for shedding light on this, I watched his video and my main problem with it is that he did not show what he said, only vague statements like "it was super sarcastic man" or "I am not antivax, just posted a warning to people". Clearly thanks to you I can see what caused the problem and it's not you, it's clearly him. Got called on his bull and didn't like it, tough luck Zoup...
