I am a nurse and work around other working mothers all day. I don’t know a single one who wouldn’t quit their job in a second to stay home with their kids. But the minority spoke for the majority a long time ago and now nobody can afford to stay home. Most mothers are working because they have no other choice sadly. Kids are being raised by daycares and schools.

my mother worked, when we were growing up, she was a nurse, she loved that job, she studied hard for it and loved doing it. She took off working for one year, and I as her son am here to tell you, that she was not as good a mother when she was a stay-at-home mother as when she worked. She just wasn't as happy or fulfilled and it showed. God it. It was the worst year of my childhood. Once she went back to work we had our interesting mother back, happy and enjoying her life and so able to enjoy her mothering time because it wasn't a daily largely unappreciated chore anymore. It took the pressure off my dad too. He wasn't as pressed about the finances when she was working, he wasn't always working overtime and he had time to spend doing dad stuff and being more than just a breadwinner

And what do you suggest the woman who choose to stay home with their children and take care of the home do if their husband no longer wants to remain in that marriage? That woman who has no resume, or experience to find employment will just be called a gold digger when she seeks spousal support, right?

He actually says this in his speech. Be for real, if adultery were a penal crime most men would be incarcerated. Which is why it's always really only been a crime for women. She worked hard to find a work from home job so she can care for her infant and still contribute financially to her household, only taking two days off after his birth. She also cleans on the weekends for extra cash. He husband works 50 hours per week as a retail manager. A couple days ago, bad weather came through and took down a bunch of trees on their property. When she asked her husband for help, they got into an argument because he said he was too tired from working. He then said that he does more work in one day than she does in a month. She is now fed up and is considering leaving him. The laziness of modern men holds much responsibility to the breakdown of the family unit.

Just remember though, the same people who espouse the Homemaker as a vocation and a utopian existence for women were also the ones who created the situation where we HAVE to have dual wage earners for a family to survive. Think that over for a few moments and you'll understand a little of the hypocrisy of the whole argument. Being a mother IS a huge and often thankless job, but women having the right to go after a career shouldn't be demonized either. Freedom of choice is the American mythos.

This feels like another classic example of the people down below being divided and ended up pointing fingers at each other. When in reality, the fingers should be pointing up, the truth is that people can’t be homemakers these days because salaries and cost-of-living doesn’t support it! It used to be easy to support an entire family with one person staying home off of a single income. The ultra rich Have destroyed the class and caused that not even a possibility for most. So even if women didn’t have ambitions and goals outside of motherhood, it wouldn’t matter because they have to work to help support the family anyway. So whether you think this is controversial or not, the problem isthat it isn’t even a possibility anymore.

Please use some common sense and actually look at things from an objective perspective instead of jumping at any chance you can get to blindly hate on feminism. Do you know WHY feminists fought for women's rights to have careers and be treated equally in the workplace? Because before feminism, women werent allowed to have the same careers as men! And when women were first allowed to work in previously male-only workplaces, they were constantly discriminated against to the point where feminists had to fight for anti-workplace discrimination laws. Women's ability to stay in the home and take care of their families was never taken away from them, so feminists dont need to fight for that. What do you expect feminists to do? Do what this guy did and tell women that they should be homemakers and that they shouldnt care about degrees and careers? Thats not fighting for women's ability to stay at home, thats telling women what to do. In fairness, apparently this guy was speaking at a very catholic college so perhaps the majority of female graduates were planning on becoming homemakers anyway, but my point still stands, regardless of whether the women in the audience agree with him or not, he's still telling them what to do. Feminism is and has always been about freedom of choice. There are plenty of stay-at-home mothers who are feminists, and the significant majority of feminists agree that women shouldnt be forced or pressured to work if they dont want to. But at the same time, women shouldnt be pressured to be homemakers either. Present both options as valid choices, and let them choose.
@FirstnameLastname-zq8oy
@FirstnameLastname-zq8oy 2 месяца назад
Also, if women should be able to stay in the home and take care of their families, shouldnt men also be able to do the same if they want? Shouldnt a man also be able to stay at home and take care of his family if his wife is willing to be the sole breadwinner? Not that anyone is stopping men from staying at home, but nobody is stopping women from staying at home either. Seems weird to focus on one but ignore the other.

The Insanity: Any woman criticizing other women for LOOKING FORWARD to and ENJOYING being a stay-at-home-mom WHILE dropping her kids off at daycare so that OTHER WOMEN will do what the stay-at-home mom is doing makes no damn sense. Solution: Be free and secure to be yourself, whether focused on career without children or taking major time off to raise your children at home. Or do both! Either way, how hard is it to humbly and respectfully embrace each other's decisions and paths. The divisive pride ( on both sides, including when stay-at-home moms look down their noses at "career women" ) doesn't help.

I think the issue is that stay at home moms only can exist if the other is working at a really nice job. Single home income use to be a possibility but now its rough for regular people. Hes speaking from a perspective that very very few can afford to have because they arent well off. My dad worked at a factory job and that was enough while my mom stayed home. now if my dad still had that job there's no shot it would be enough so my mom would need to work. Its not that society is telling women they have to work because its cool but because they want to prepare them for that because the single family income isnt a reality anymore. Ideally you want 2 parents and one at home at all times with the kids but the same people wanting that are voting against the interests of keeping that a thing.

I agreed with most of what he said I also understand the outrage though. My mom is a stay at home mom and homeschooled my brother and I and I wish that more women and men understood the value they bring in relationships but sadly not many realize it. In my opinion it is weird how in the United States we almost talk down about and undermine women’s education yet the countries he most likely were referring to with low child out of wedlock rates value education for both genders. So to make a speech like this to women who’s parents or they have just spent a lot of money is kind of unnecessary, insensitive and undermining. Plus in America all of these teachers and parents are saying the children can’t read nor do math and are more behind than ever. Well in many conservative cultures they value education and having an education is basic in their countries. They understand that the mother is going to be your child’s first teacher and whatever traits women have acquired to be successful in our lives and in pursuing our education will be passed down to our children because we all first pair bond with our mothers and pick up little tiny habits from them that make substantial impact in our lives. I also heard an elderly Japanese man say while being interviewed in Japan about the birth and marriage rates that he made sure to say get married to a woman who has an education because your children will be smart too. My parents also said this to me growing up about making sure I have my own credits and education. I’ve also heard this from Arabs, Koreans, Pakistanis, Indians, Chinese, Singaporeans but in America young men and some women are always talking about women being educated is part of the problem when in South Korea planes ✈️ are down so that their sons AND DAUGHTERS pass their exams so that they can get into one of the top universities. They also go through great lengths to help their young people when it comes to their education. Even in the Jewish community women are educated. So you can see how it feels daunting when we see all of these articles on how poorly school children are doing in the states but then we turn around and discourage women from getting a degree only to look to more traditional and conservative cultures and try to strive to emulate what they have going on without actually knowing what they have going on. That’s why in many countries there is no such thing as a gap year or men aren’t staying in college. I’m not at all saying it’s 100% women’s responsibility though I will say some cultures that we so conveniently bring up to prove our point’s understand that the mother is the first teacher so women need an education and life experiences too.

Both being a stay at home parent and being in the workforce have pros and cons. He’s saying, woman embrace being a “homemaker”. That word/definition has been very much demonized. Being a homemaker is the greatest responsibility of all and comes great honor when your day is complete. While women are trying to be the CEO of a company, I AM THE CEO, CFO, and founder of my company and it’s called, My Family. I run it all from top to bottom. I personally think feminist started to see how easy it was to work and realized how hard it was to be a wife, mother, housekeeper, chef, accountant, nurse, judge and jury ect so they took the easy way out and passed the responsibility off to child care and whom ever . This does NOT include single mothers or fathers, let me make that very clear (they’re the TRUE HEROS OF THEM ALL!) If men decided to well I don’t know, not go to work and not bring home an income woman freak the hell out. But it’s ok for women to not go to work “in their home” and raise “their” families and that’s okay. I don’t get it. The women with families that do not have a choice and have to work, ask them…I will bet majority would say I would love to stay home and care for my family instead of working outside of the home. This world is so upside down, it’s crazy

The problem is that his message is contextually inappropriate. For women who already know and are ready to become mothers and homemakers, yes this is a lovely reminder that your work is important. But he’s speaking to women who have actively decided to pursue higher education and careers, before prioritizing having children. Women fought hard to even have that option and to bring up the important of home making, the path women were boxed into for so long, IS demeaning at a college graduation. Catholic or not.

Butker was certainly very traditional in his delivery and catholic faith but part of the origin of his perspective is that a family used to be able to survive off of 1 income, then most families needed 2 incomes, and now many families need 2 incomes and debt to survive

As a healthcare professional, I know many highly accomplished MDs who are tired of their work, and would love to stay home to raise their children, and they are not even Catholic. Stop with all this fate indignation and BS.
