I remember watching this in movie theater. When she stepped onto that dance floor, some guy yelled out "HOT DAMN!" and everyone busted out laughing. She totally killed it.
Yea and they got the character all wrong. Akasha in the book is not overly sexualized. She was one of the first Vampires but more importantly she was a Queen and that is how she acted. In the film she was protrayed more like a slut then like a Queen. Queen of the Damned is my second favorite book next to the The Vampire Lestat. I didn't even make it 20 min in to the film before I walked out it was so bad. They didn't even try to stick to the books or get any of the characters right.
Nothing wrong with being sexual, Aaliyah's Akasha is stunning and powerful. I don't care that it wasn't 100% faithful to the book, I love that movie. There is no rule which says a movie has to be 100% faithful to it's source material. @@deaddudegaming
@@ihanakaunotar2741 On August 25, 2001, at the age of 22, Aaliyah was killed in an airplane accident in the Bahamas along with eight other people on board, when the overloaded aircraft she was traveling in crashed shortly after takeoff.
She just exudes power, an unfathomable depth of charisma and power. You would think every young vampire in the bar would have practically collapsed just from her presence. Not to mention her outfit just screams royalty and authority in any time period. Its not everyday a 6000+ year old original vampire shows up. They all would have been on their knees. Also I have to say that Aaliyah was absolutely beautiful, she was perfect for that role! Too bad her life was cut short.
I remember when her casting for the movie was first announced, a lot of people were not happy about it. More than a few people had the attitude of, "WTF? Why are they putting some Rnb/pop star in the role of Akasha, that's never gonna work" (paraphrased). And then this scene happened and a lot of those same people immediately went, "Goddamn, this scene is awesome, she has nailed this character, she's the best part of the entire movie." So basically she walked into this bar and shut everyone up. It was awesome to see when it first came out, especially considering without Aliyah as Akasha this movie probably would've bombed completely & not become the cult classic it eventually did.
To have this sort of power. She never acknowledged any of their presences until ol boy slipped up. I'm sure some older smarter vamps vacated the premises upon her arrival. So elegant, regal, and deadly!😍 Had Aaliyah survived they definitely would have made a better movie featuring Akasha, perhaps about her past and how she came to be. Sad we don't get to see it in this reality.😭
Read Anne Rice's other vampire novels. Ramses the Damned.Interview with a Vampire. Queen of the Damned was impressive..very tragic that lovely Alliya died so young and needlessly.. Her plane crashed trying to take off because it was overloaded..RIP..
@@aaronhumphrey2009I've read Anne Rice's books, both her vampire and outside novels. I was strictly addressing this trash movie, and Aaliyah being the sole reason it is good. I did not like that Rice was not called for the screenplay for this, unlike IWTV, which is why it is a far superior movie. Perhaps had Aaliyah lived, they could have gotten Rice on-board for a prequel of Akasha. Right actor, wrong writers.
Be at Peace Aaliyah, you are gone too soon but never forgotten. Great movie, great plots and story lines filled with great acting and even the music was lit AF.
I loved this movie. Was totally mesmerized by her dance. And then suddenly her ruthlessness came out. Just wish they would make more movies like this. Edit: RIP Aaliyah. Thanks for this great performance.
....the gentleman that did the music...i forgot his name...,he said he was THRILLED...when he found out SHE....LIKED THE SONG...and DANCED SO BEAUTIFULLY TO IT....
@@Wolfsbane909 But if you really think about it, she is according to the story a vampire god. In order for these pups to embrace their dark gifts, they would have to sold their souls to her! So in essence she was just collecting what was hers on a whim! It really takes Rice's story telling to the next level!
Hypnotic. Captivating. She still, quite literally, takes my breath away and ache all over again at the loss of that rare soul that can evoke such an irresistibly primal trance. Magnificent!
@jack_foster3050ummm no. The music video Rock the Boat killed her. Not this movie 🙄🙄🙄 she finished the film in March 2001, she died August 2001. Make it make sense.
Corroect the aesthetic and cinematography go hand and hand with one another . The angles of capturing her movements and facial expressions…. Art work at its finest
She portrays the queen as an evil sadistic creature. You can see it in her walk and in her eyes how evil someone can get. She looks like the devil wife who has no control killing what or whoever walks in her path. She was amazing. And that is what you called pure evil in a character. RIP my lady queen.
If you have done such a thing, amplified by the imagination of dozens of million viewers, it will never go away. You'll have to be conscious always. There were so many deaths of people involved in dark side productions. They showed us metaphorrs about things that exist, but then also in a way one needs to repent and stay conscious, or whatever you will call the deed of balance. Angel Heart was another ingenious movie, that came so close to the real thing, that it became also dangerous to quite some people.
She walks and moves like a predator. She sees every soul there, because when each pup accepted their dark gift, they essentially sold their souls to Akasha. She sees vampires the same way that she sees humans, as cattle and play things which isn't surprising considering how ignorant most vampires are of their heritage according to the story. It is a good lesson of accepting power and influence, because it always comes with a cost, and most usually don't care what the cost is until it is too late! I felt the story telling in this scene can be felt on so many levels, I consider this work to be a master class in symbolism! Very much like Fight Club!
@@zacharyjochumsen9677 You are correct. Akasha in this story was the original vampire. She had mastery over the vampire disease at a molecular level. She was portrayed as a Vampire God and I think they did a very good job with this story.
this came out in 2002... cell phones were pretty much a luxury item at that time and not to mention there wasn't much you could do with it except call people. And texting was expensive and also, obvious point - this is a movie not real life
I’ve watched that scene so many times and am amazed at her acting and the way she moves her body…and how she totally commands the part, of a perfect predator.
Still one of the best movie soundtracks that I still listen to on 💿 The music in this amazing movie was way ahead of it's time and so are the amazing special effects! She still and always will be known as the most beautiful actress to play The Queen of the Damned!
@@genesmolko8113 Yup. Its a great soundtrack. But it could not be any more of its time if it tried. It was Static X, Linkin park and others, just pure quality Nu Metal. There are entire albums full of this sort of music.
The sound track and Aaliyah were fantastic. The rest of the movie was pretty average. It was funny going to clubs in Sydney and seeing all the extras each weekend!
That’s for sure my ❤❤😂my goodness she’s 🔥😈😈😈😈😋she’s my dream girl very sexual seductive n voluptuous Akasha beautiful shoulders teasing like ***come here hand fingers come to me signature move classy hottie ❤
Life was hard. Remember the many news about real life of artists. What they'd been through. Aaliyah sure knew evil, from young age. As an artist she could portray it in unforgettable ways. But she should have said no, to entering the helicopter in wild weather.
@@itsdarke1054 The plane she and eight others were flying on was overloaded and too heavy to fly, and it crashed and burned about 200 feet from the runway
Nah. Just an overconfidant monster with delusions. Not a "serpent" just a woman. A 6000 year old woman who doesnt have a clue. And she isnt killing young ones because they challenge her, she is killing them because they are pests and are far to numerous and weakening her. She is just culling the herd for mostly selfish reasons. She never gets around to her planned genocides.
They really captured the essence of the follies of ignorant mortals! These people when embracing their dark gift, pledged their souls to the vampire God without question. But in the end, they thought they could defy her, when their souls belonged to her! The visuals are quite powerful and epic, and my hats off to everyone involved including the music! This was a master class in symbolism!
@@jamesmaybrick2001 Really. That is where you expert analysis draws the line? You are ok with mythical creatures called vampires... But your belief suspends at the thought of a Vampire god? I will tell you the same thing I tell the other idiots! Stop over-analyzing the Science-Fiction!!!!! 🤡🤡🤡
@@jamesmaybrick2001 And just for fun. You may be too dumb to notice. But this is a discussion about the movie. We watched a clip about the movie. You are the only person I have seen that is dumb enough to think this is a book club! And if that is shocking enough.... The movie is based on the book, but they are not the same. The director and studio added their own creative thoughts to it!
Usually the foolish Vampyre make this mistake. The young and power hungry are always boasting what they will do and how they will do it. Ignorant to believe in the vampyre world that the next isnt more powerful than you...
I remember reading the book in college, then seeing this movie. MANY good parts and major characters left out, I was pissed! Then this scene....BLOWN AWAY! I forgave the movie and it's now a classic.
The main problem with this is that unlike nowadays, where they take a big book, such as "Dune", and split it into two movies, they went in the opposite direction and blended "The Vampire Lestat" and "Queen of the Damned" into one movie, with many of the scenes that would have provided better continuity ending up on the cutting room floor. And the part I didn't like is how they changed Lestat's origin story. Perhaps AMC will correct these errors, since they seemed to have done well with their revise "Interview with the Vampire" series.
@@martykarr7058 I love the book/s, but QotD is more series of short stories vaguely connected than a single narative, at least as as far as filming it goes. The film did the best it could with that. Despite all the changes and omisions (like making aksasha much much NICER) It did a lot right. Townsend was a great Lestat and the guy who played Marius was great also. And obviously Aaliyah was dam fine as Akasha. Everyone did a fine job.
@@jamesmaybrick2001 Yes, Townsend did better than Cruise, but "Interview" was from Louis perspective, where the balance of the Chronicles is from Lestat's perspective. And I just saw a sneak peek of season 2 of "Interview", and it looks like they might vary farther than season 1, and that has to do with starting the story probably close to a century later than the book.
She was amazing and one can feel the total disdain to all around her in just the way she looks and moves. There were some great scenes like this one and if the whole script and story line had been better woven the movie could have succeeded much much more. I also feel sorry for the early loss of such a multi talented person.
The critics and fans of The Vampire Chronicles panned this movie, but I fn loved it the first time I saw it. Who cares if Stuart Townsend didn't have blond hair, he was the perfect Lestat, and Aaliyah gave a performance for the ages, RIP.
I don't know what the heck happened with movie making nowadays, but I'm glad we can look back and watch these movies from back in the day. I miss Aaliyah she was definitely one of a kind and her star was rising both in music and in film.
Lol why you felt the need to call her race out??? It's obvious she is black but why even mention race??? Just say you had a big crush on her without putting race into it 🙄😒
It is much deeper than that!
Her movements are so sexy and seductive, calculated and precise, her powers are god lvl, and her appetite for destruction and pain is insatiable, I love this character, one of the best vampires to ever grace the silver screen, RIP Queen!!!...
I really didn’t care for this movie. But Jesus this scene was immaculate. The atmosphere, the build up and of course Aaliyah enchanting and disturbing performance makes this scene damn near perfect
