My therapist(who for 20+yrs in Colorado was a registered psycho therapist not educationally trained). Her thought was taking personal responsibility for your healing. Yes, bad things happened. But when you become an adult you have to take control of your healing not just blame others. Being a victim is always more powerless compared to being a survivor. It helps me tremendously. And it is based on the scriptures.

I was nearly done with my master’s program when they disciplined (punished) me for refusing to recite the doctrine of social justice. People told me that I should “put my head down and say the right thing” to get my degree but I could not find peace with that. Christine’s video on the FAIR RU-vid channel inspired me to search for a new program that publicly and boldly states that they do not endorse it. It a religiously affiliated school - not BYU that teaches the model that Christine endorses, the model that aligns with Gospel principles. I interviewed with them and told them exactly what happened and they welcomed me into the program. I also asked questions I wouldn’t have asked if I hadn’t had a negative experience and then learned from Christine and other voices of reason. It’s frustrating to lose 50 credits and start over, but I am grateful to have the opportunity to learn from ethical people who see the true purpose of therapy. For any doubters, there is a former Antioch student who is suing the school and exposing this curriculum. She is interviewing other students and therapists. Her channel is The Radical Center. There are similar situations in the UK, and there was a student in Mexico that almost lost his diploma due to this. It is time to speak up for truth. It is time for like-minded people of all races and creeds to join together.

No. I wasn’t at BYU. I was at a state university. I am attending a school that is affiliated with a religion and wanted to clarify that it is not BYU, partly to demonstrate that there are schools other than BYU that maintain basic Gospel principles and partly because this channel has shown that some professors at BYU are teaching the very things that are causing harm in counseling and other fields.

Thinking therapists were still counseling as they had 15 to 20 years ago I made the mistake of sending one of our children to a few therapy sessions years ago and it was, unbeknownst to me , one of the worst choices I could have made. Victim hood was the focus of the sessions but we found out too late. Disgusted at what I hear from most therapists currently.

I've also seen a massive increase in how much therapy gets talked about in my YSA ward. To be honest, were I not a member, I'd probably assume therapy was a part of our doctrine. I had the thought while listening to this that I ended up turning inward on myself and it's a question of "were someone to come to you (me) with struggles, would you (I) be more likely to refer them to therapy? Or to tell them about God and religion?". It feels like therapy is the "cure all" these days and if I'm being honest with myself I'd say it would be easier for me to say therapy to someone before having the courage to talk about God/religion. But listening to this and formulating that question gave me new perspective and I want to become confident enough in myself and God to share God first.

As a Marriage and Family Therapist, our scope of practice is increasing getting narrower and narrower. One only needs to compare the DSM-3 (Diagnostic And Statistical Manual for Mental Health Disorders) to current DSM-5-TR to see therapy is not a “cure all.”continue to “be strong and of good courage!” You are a voice of hope! I too am a therapist. What angers me the most is how we sell the lie in social justice that we are powerless to change until we make others change. Any honest therapist will tell you that when you put your hope for happiness in a place where you have no power you end up feeling more powerless -- thus feeling more angry, frustrated, anxious, fearful, etc. Powerlessness is what we need to help them overcome!! The solution is not in liberation from the bad guy or bad situation, it is in developing the power with in one's self and/or connecting with a higher power from within ones own inner self and thus become more empowered. To tell a child they can find inner happiness by changing external features is lying to them. It is evil.

I've been through tons of therapy in my life. Some of it needed, some of it not. I've had probably close to 20 different therapists. While some were great, I had others who told me if I didn't leave the church I'd take my life. Some would constantly tell me I needed same sex relationships to be happy. I had some who tried to normalize my addictions to "avoid shame" but in the process essentially discouraged me from trying to change. I had many who never dug deep, seeking to help me "feel better" but actually causing me to spiral deeper into toxic habits and personality traits that destroyed some of my friendships, relationships, and self confidence. I've also had tons of medications prescribed some of which gave me major side effects, such and hallucinations and severe fatigue, and one I'm pretty sure did some minor damage to my overall memory capacity. I've been off of medications for years now and haven't been to a therapist for a couple years, and honestly other than my childhood, these have been the best couple years of my life. Therapists do have a purpose and I can't deny the help I've received especially during the time I wanted to end my life. But I've had just as many negative experiences with therapy as I have positive. I've also watched friends who got into the mental health field as a career and it ended up steering them away from God and religion. Again it can have its benefits, but also has negatives and I've personally experienced both.

I really enjoyed listening to Ms. Sefein. She is brave to speak out and shine a light on what is really happening in academia. As a mother, I appreciate her voice! Many have suspected what’s been happening in higher education but to hear it from her perspective is very revealing and concerning. She reminds me of another family therapist who has taught at BYU, Lili Anderson. She has the podcast Choosing Glory where she often shines the light on the sophistries in our society which are leading many away from eternal truths. I am grateful for such voices, standing up for what is right. Thx for another great interview!

When psychology accepted the 'Affirmative Care' model it ceased to be a science. If I write a scientific paper, I would expect other scientists to challenge ideas. If the initial approach is to affirm my position -right or wrong- what will be the learned. It's not science. No one is helped. Nothing is learned. The only thing that happens is I feel good about my idea. Even if it's wrong and worse yet even if it's destructive and damaging.

I see relationships in families change as adult children educate through social media, woke scholars, books etc. without even having attended college. Satan is truly rampant in these last days.

I was taught in therapy techniques to help with through stuff and to empower myself. My therapist wasn't a just a listener but she'd listen but not let me just sit there and re traumatize myself. Focus on what I could do. This other crap hurt me for 20 yrs. Until I find this great therapist.

What a great segment on your show Greg! Your guest has a wonderful attitude. I have had many positive therapy sessions with a therapist who helped me take responsibility for my actions, change my thinking, and move forward in a successful life. While making changes in my life, I read Brian Tracy's book, "NO EXCUSES." The ideas in that book centered around not blaming others for your personal problems. We all have an opportunity to make good choices regardless of the situation we are in. I believe that the new woke way of doing therapy will be a disservice to those who really need help. We will see greater mental health issues as a result. A good therapist is not afraid of telling it how it is. I liked that Christine shared her own therapy experience and emphasized the importance of trust. We need to stop pointing our fingers at others and start with ourselves in making this world a better place. Keep up the good work!

As interesting and important as all this dissection and discussion truly IS, the actual main/root thing really is: JESUS CHRIST is the only and ultimate answer. For ALL of us. Every single individual. Yes, there are many paths cognitively, scientifically, and/or intellectually to GET to this realization, but the end point REALLY IS the same. 🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻 Many get lost along the way…😕

I'm so glad you ended the podcast with bringing out her origin of coming from first generation immigrants. I truly believe that these people are part of the group that will help save the sinking ship called America. They bring their practical, traditional, common sense, hard working vision to our feeble, soft, corrupt, population. I will stand with wonderful people like this lady, shoulder to shoulder anytime! the social phenomenon of what I would call the "victim olympics" is not a good thing; some people may complain to others about what's "wrong" with them when it's a demonic deception tactic, in my opinion- I don't like labels; I think it's wise to see that we're all children of God, but have to push back against subversive language, ideologies. So many basic, foundational gospel truths that we have to know in order to be able to see through this stuff, like the fact that contention and anything that approaches or smacks of or entirely consists of contention is, by definition, not of God, no matter whether the fighting is about things that are or otherwise would be true...(hint, this is what President Nelson understands and why he is said by so many people to be noticeably against contention). Or like the fact that anything that leads to a lowering of mood and increasing negativity (like...oh you know, spending any time focusing on negative things such that your mood becomes negative), that is fundamentally seen as unhappy or that spending time with the concept or information lead to frowns and not smiles--yeah, that's the sign that this is the stuff to distance from and quit spending time on. And there's so much noise and waving in the face of all the stuff the contention, "hate and discontent" as my dad says, that it distracts people from looking at and seeing the very basics--are we looking at peace and contentment rather than war and conflict? are we looking at what actually brings happiness or are we only looking at what leads to turmoil and sadness?

In Utah, it is actually illegal for a Therapist to dig into root cause when discussing gender dysphoria with a child. The only therapy that is legal is affirmative therapy. This is because Governor Cox pushed to prohibit non-affirmative therapy and passed a rule through DOPL. I have no clue where parents would go for therapy that doesn't seek to transition their child in Utah.

Therapy while good has its risks. i knew someone who went to therapy and got the idea that the father was the source of her problems and started picking him apart. She left the Church for a while because when the therapist tore him down, ( he was a very good man), the Church was torn down in her eyes.

I know a 17-19 yr old taken to lds therapist (wrong reason for a choice) whoconducted several sessions, told by therapist his problem was his DADs fault cuz he worked 2 jobs for a few years!! I was livid, i told the person I would hace stood up right then n there, said "this session has ended, you will not charge me one more dime and we will not be back !" This was 10-15 yrs ago. In the 60s my nurses training had a 2 mo affilieation with a state mental hospital, we students were warned that most of the professors were 'strange' (they were). In fact, most often YOU BECOME WHAT YOU STUDY .. think about that ....

Thank you for having this discussion! I'm in my master's program now to be an LMFT in Florida and yes, while it's a great program I've already heard the argument for puberty blockers as suicide prevention.... I'm also going to be going through the sexuality class next semester so it'll be interesting what is discussed and taught. Overall, I don't feel my program is "woke" not completely. I interviewed for other programs that I really could see the wokeness shine brightly through, at least, with some of the professors. However, I don't feel that the teachers truly push this on students... so far we'll see as I take more classes and start my praticum. Here's the thing! Especially for future students, at least this is what I've learned. Feel your teachers out ask questions and you'll be able to tell where they stand... then even if you disagree just go with what is taught. Then do your own research and move on. Once licensed you may also have to abide by your internships or employers values. But find a professional supervisor that aligns with your values then once your fully licensed you can either move employment to somewhere that aligns with your values or you can go into private practice. As long as your staying ethical you should be fine.

I was a bookworm nerd in HS. I was bullied by a bigger kid who apparently disliked nerds. Verbal and light physical attacks. I was told to just get thicker skin, just toughen up. That bully went on to severely abuse his spouse and is now serving time in federal prison. My point is he could have been stopped much earlier. I was encouraged to NOT make a big deal out of his behavior. Stop playing the victim card I was told. I stayed silent. Problem is I WAS A VICTIM. The instigator needed to be called out and his behavior punished at the onset. Now replace nerd with LGBT or POC or trans folks. I applaud the #metoo and woke movement for standing up for justice and not remaining silent. I do think we need a movement “on steroids” for a generation or two. Just my 2 cents.

But what do you do with parents are truly being emotionally abusive? I know a family where both parents were raised in very abusive families. And the mother is very abusive emotionally now. When she was physically able she broke a cutting board over her 10 yr old son's back. Now she's bed ridden so she's emotionally horrible and the father won't stick up for the kids. I know the daughter.

@@CwicShow One of this family's 'girls at 11 yrs old told me, " You're the only adult I've ever trusted!". We tried to work on her creating a safe place where she could go in her mind when she was scared. After 2 hrs. she couldn't imagine a safe place with Jesus there or angels or Heavenly Father. She couldn't even imagine a safe place at age 11. By 10 she told me she'd tried to commit suicide 4 times. Her older sister and she had been hospitalized several times for suicide attempts. I know these two girls have a great knowledge of the scriptures and the teachings of the church but didn't feel loved by their parents. The family had been turned into cps 8 times. I didn't want to but the spirit wouldn't leave me alone till I finally called cps abt this family. . But the kids all told cps that everything was just fine at home. The girl told me they had been threatened so much not to talk about what went on at home.

This is true, and also in other area's like churches. The scary thing is that I have friends that are in other religions, Catholic, protestant, and non-denominational and they are telling me they are being taken over by woke ideologies slowly at first but now in the past 2 yrs it's been a lot more.
