There should be NO new Pokémon next generation. 

I’d be into some energy put into decent battle/attack animations for individual Pokemon rather than the generic stuff, like give us that for one, right?

✨As a gamer coming back to Pokémon (got Yellow on the 3DS eShop) it feels like Sword & Shield's "Dexit" was an attempt to not overwhelm a new audience, but honestly, I was still overwhelmed by the game's additions to the currently overwhelming library of Pokémon (and underwhelmed by how the game has really not evolved much over the decades). I've opted instead to try to replay the older stuff and rebuild that affinity with the series. I agree with the idea of at least slowing down the new Pokémon which would allow the character designers to craft more meaningful designs! Also memeable/favorite moments in the video: 9:45 "They were UGLY" 12:02 *Absent-minded head scratching with can* 12:31 "Terrible behavior."

While I enjoy the idea of new Pokémon, at this point I'm just kinda bored with how formulaic it is. Every gen, I know I can expect an Electric rodent, a two stage Normal mammal, a sexy Grass/Psychic lady, a three stage bird, a pseudo legendary evo, a three stage Bug type, and then at least 2 non-evo water types that dont have the stats or look to be much fun. SwSh had some cool Pokémon, for sure. But I would like to see more regional variants and mega-evolutions. I thought they were more interesting and fun. So if they could give us a narrative driven Pokémon game, that only introduces regional variants or re-introduces mega evolution, I think it would be a far more fascinating game than Furry Critter Camping Sim 2019.

For me they could have stopped making new Pokémon after Johto. I played Crystal back in the day and loved everything about it. HeartGold and SoulSilver were great remakes, I especially loved the follow behind mechanic. ✨

Exactly! Like I finally learn the new 100 or so Pokemon, then BOOM another new game with 100 more. Maybe focus that energy on maybe new starters and a few legendaries, and put the rest of the focus on the overworld and characters. They are at that point where it's like Star Wars, Marvel and the like where if it has the Pokemon name on it, they're going to buy it.

Dexit was the best thing to happen to Sword and Shield IMO, but the backlash meant Gamefreak ended up caving in and making the DLCs glorified Safari Zones. The Isle of Armor was pretty fun, but Crown Tundra was a joke with the orgy of legendary pokemon it offered. I think maybe Pokemon Go is partially to blame as it's reintroduced the older generations to new players, so they come to expect them all in the current games. Maybe the direction to go in now is regional variants. It's old pokemon but reimagined. If every pokemon had a variant form that's another 800 different pokemon that are still effectively not new. Alternatively, I'd love another game like XD. That game was so damn difficult I think I only completed it once but never made it to the end of the battle mountain. And who can forget the guy with the Pokeball afro?

Pokemon XD and Colosseum are GEMS because of how story heavy they are. Love to see it get some love.

Unfortunately, I watched a video where they explained a highly pessimistic view for the future of Pokemon games and I believe they're right... Pokemon is a victim of its own success. Pokemon is not only about the games. Since it became the brand that it is today, with a TV show, cards, games, movies, etc. the games are responsible to keep the flow of new content on which the rest of the ecosystem is built. New Pokemon are necessary to make the cartoon, the movies and the cards.... They don't have time to flesh out the current existing mechanics because there's too much pressure to create "new ways to play" and willingly choose to leave behind the gimmicks that are actually more interesting (in my opinion, megaevolutions). So, in a way, Pokemon is beyond just being a AAA game, it is a brand, and because of it, we only get small incremental updates each generation so to not disrupt too much the status quo. I don't see that changing in the near future :(

the gen 3 designs were definitely my favorite everything after that was kinda forgettable in my opinion but maybe that's the nostalgia talking 😅

I’d be happy with fewer new Pokémon as long as we get new regional forms to fill in the other elements and creat more diversity in the world. They can only make so many versions of a dog, or cat. I also think you’re pretty handsome by the way. 🥰
