Full bore admire how determined you are to work round a problem. No short cuts or dodgy bodges just legit mechanical skills and being prepared to research read and learn things you don’t necessarily know from your already vast knowledge base and experience. All your content is a superb watch and great way to learn stuff too. Good man. Keep these coming I reckon they are some of your best yet Dean. Who else reckons he’s editing out where he’s busting moves to those cheesy anthems, as a stress reliever ?? C’mon Dean admit it !
That estate is a fine looking car. As nice as an Audi. Love your work, brother. No super cars. No poncing around in Monaco. Just proper heads down, roll your sleeves up mechanics 🎉
I really was waiting for this swap but i noticed you were in a bit of a hurry. The end was like ....quick quick go. As a content creator myself i understand it. Time is of an essence. Hope next video is more " relaxed " like you normally are! I do appreciate all the hard work. I know that this was probably a 2 day job put in a 17 min video. People forget it sometimes. It is not " ah lets remove a gearbox in 5 mins ". Keep it up Dean!
Good work Dean! I started watching your channel when you started the TVR, since then watched all your videos but can’t help but wonder what’s happened to it??? lol Cheers👍
Great work 👍 It was all a lot easier last engine swop I did, '79 mk3 1.6 Capri! Had new emgine from a Mk2 in and running in an hour... Times have changed somewhat 😂
Some complain about the same-old same- old VAG 2.0TSI stuff they get bored from until emissions kick in :) I think the old system with direct AND port injection is better, port injection cleans the valves nicely.
well done great job , I used to have that when I worked at LOTUS you could have two cars one in front of the other on the line and they put a part number change in for a different part identical cars
When you get to the 4 to 5 pot swap, don't spare the details about how you are going to change the harnesses, programming whatever, really keen to see that part.
Nice job, that looked a nightmare, you are braver than me. Now the fun starts getting the ecu to play nice, hopefully you can sort out the error messages, connections and diagnostics. Modern cars are a pain in the arse lol. Good luck mate.😀
We're on earth do you work at 5:30 in the evening I've only been watching the channel about a year so I'm not sure if you've mentioned it before. Thumbs up
Hi Dean. God that was a Big job. I would not like to be paying a Garage to do what you just did Dean. It would cost a Fortune lol. Wow that Engine was tight getting it in. Good Job. Time to buy tickets for that VW R Estate. Great Video as always. 😅🇨🇮
Yeah it’s many hours, felt like it’s taken away from the RS3 project a little this video so was a little disappointed with it. But these things happen and I can’t predict what will happen.
You sound stressed dean. We know you’re up agenst it right now. chill out no point almost march probs going become a whole lot worse aswell 😂 your doing brilliant well done on selling out the golf estate tickets 👌
Hi Dean, i didnt notice you check for a spigot bearing in the end of the crank when taking the auto box off and fitting the manual box? Do the engines already have one when a dsg box is mated to it? Apologies if you are already sorted, Ive had this catch me out once when fitting an engine from an auto to a manual!
@@SavingSalvage Because like you said u swapped the parts from one engine to another both engines are completely different so if someone is going to order a water pipe is going to to have from this engine and supposed to be from the other with that extra water pump . But I hope Im wrong
@@kakofon78 no bud, the new engine I fitted had all wrong pipes on it etc… so I took the original pipes of the old engine and put them on the new one so it’s all the same. So there won’t be any difference from before I removed the engine.
VW are the absolute worst manufacture for pointless revisions. Personally (as an engineer) I’d never have one as they seem to purposely make their cars difficult to fix, work on etc. BMW are better as they don’t lock you out of everything
Dean how unlucky that in less than six month they were different just means a bit more work really enjoying this project . Yes you will get auto box sold as all ways someone looking for this type of stuff . A question dean are you time served mechanic or are you self taught as your knowledge is really good have been subed for a while just love your channel and your ethos of saving salvage and not just buying new good luck dean hope to see many more project's
Fantastic to achieve so much in such a short time. Having done many engine swaps, even like for like, I know that there is always something that bites you in the arse and means a trip to the factors to get parts which is not useful at 6 o/clock on a Sunday night.
Hi got a question would you buy a flood damage car from copart there a Mercedes c300 i am looking at looks like it’s just a ECU been taken off it thanks
Wondering if you could switch the ecu from the other car or... wipe the good car ecu and remap it with the specs for the 'new, engine whilst keeping the original car specs on it? if you know what i mean . reckon that ecu might in time need some wizardry. unless the new engine is operating exactly like the old one it may not matter...? its fried my brain just thinking about it
It would be interesting to find out what was wrong with the other engine (cyl head). Would it have been a better idea to fix the other engine and sell this one? Very interesting project.
imagine it goes into the dealers for a diagnostics at some point and they are bamboozled because the wiring diagram on elsa doesn't match up lol ha ha ha ha ha
