Howard Dusek they're practice amps that i guess people assume to be recording amps and is then disgusted when they hear the sound coming from an amp not meant for recording. I don't know either. I can kinda see the arguement of the "it's a trap, the effects suck, you can't get a good enough sound, you're better off with an Orange amp" arguement, but to a new player, my Line 6 Spider 2 fulfills its purpose nicely. Use a Line 6 amp with a mindset of "i wanna get a taste of what's possible" instead of "this amp will make me money". As with all things, the more experienced you get, you'll want better gear. Kinda makes me wonder why beginner guitars aren't hated as much. They're both meant for new players, yet one apparently sounds like nails on a blackboard compared to the nice sound an average player would expect.
