You're right. I live in a state in the US where I've known personally, like, three black teenagers. The only black kids in my high school were literally all adopted from Haiti and other places outside the country. When I worked at a truck stop outside of town, I cashiered for truck drivers of all kinds of races. In the six months I worked there, I probably met more black people than I'd seen in my entire life (As well as Indians, oddly enough. Actual Indians, not Native Americans.) Because of that, until I started to pay more attention to newsfeed and cancerous comments online, I actually had no idea about stereotypes like fried chicken or...watermelon...or whatever. I still don't get it, honestly? But I did watch mainstream television and the news, and I had a very clear idea of the weed and gangster stereotypes. There's incredibly limited representation of black people in the media--it was almost odd for me to watch all of these very wildly different men with the same complexion talk and react together. I don't consider myself racist (I imagine most people wouldn't), this is just something I literally never see!

When I watch the new's I see a certain race that has a much higher representation of ppl engaging in bestiality, incest, & pedophilia, but I have common sense not to generalize & go up 2 ppl & spout ignorance.
