That really is a thing of beauty, stunning. Let's hope BMW actually make it without compromising the design too much. Loving the angular lines on it, a sharp contrast to the Mercedes with it curves. Mercedes are playing it safe, BMW are playing it bold. Would love to see corduroy back in BMW. Not sure about the lack of buttons and knobs. Everything being on the tablet is something I don't like about Tesla's interiors
Saw the color change version at CES and it looks much better in person than in photos. It definitely grows on you and glad to see it doesn’t have a giant grill like the i7
Generally, it’s nice to see BMW taking inspiration from their previous designs. Not so sure about the glass belt line and the rear lights, but it’s more playful. I do wish that BMW would go back to less of a ‘games console, look for their displays. I loved the old font with orange glow. Maybe they could bring that back with a modern twist. Loving the return of the shark face (E28), maybe borrow the rear lights from that? BMW are killing it with engineering, build and design. I just brought a new 1 series and it’s a pretty amazing
BMW is finally returning back to form. I want one. The angular styling is fantastic. Bring back the corduroy and this color scheme is also great. The detailing, like the BMW logo is also spot on. I like the bumpers too, the rear one acts as a diffusor, I think. Also the rear light seem to be designed like a gurney flap. This is so much better than the Mercedes concept, which I think is hideous.
Physical buttons add unnecessary weight, complications, proprietary SKUs, etc to the car. Touch screens are leaps and bounds better then they used to be so all the disadvantages of not having a physical button are non existent. Many modern cars with touch screens have voice activation which further reduces the need for physical buttons.
Exactly...and will they (BMW) be held accountable for such a statement? Nope, they'll spew shit like always, and you'll end up with maybe a headlight from the prototype surviving to the production version...
I don't believe it at all, those headlights, those seats, the screen, the door handles, the rear view mirrors etc do not look appropriate for production.
I am kind of liking this. I see how the bumpers are a retro throwback to the black bumpers in 70's and 80's. I do love the overall silhouette. And I love the corduroy so YES, please BMW!! I live where it is warmer more than it is cool and leatherette/leather seats don't feel so great here even when ventilated.
i live in the inner city and love black bumpers for their ability to withstand scrapes. . there's a reason that ford and renault vans never switched to body colouring. now, there's only the detail that they are too low at the front and low profile wheels make a really expensive noise when you park
Loving the vintage style. A small touring would be ace. One thing i would love to see coming back: 4 even sized round headlamps and the kidney smaller. Bringing back the design of E32,E34,E36 and E38 would make them billions.
@@unowen-nh9ov Not wrong. The design of the front texture has nothing to do with body type. Everyone is making money with retro designs. Look at ford bronco etc.
@@modellbahn9447What about BMW design makes you think they want to be retro or look like anyone else? BMW have been expanding for 60 years by going into neu segments, here they start over again with elektrik.
No they would not, for the simple fact that the classic models can't be surpassed by the newer designs. So far by every new model based on a previous model. it has never the same "wow" factor than the orginal model.
I would love to see the corduroy, but not in that yellow color. Something else could be great though and unique. Absolutely love the heads up display and instruments.

Very clean exterior design! Interior, however, I definitely feel it is too much "concepty" and open. I love the enclosed feeling of a BMW interior (I also drive a BMW E30 and even though the visibility from the inside is astonishing, there is still an enclosed and cacoon-like feeling when sitting behind the steering wheel). I get that they are trying to make the interior more "inclusive" but I still don't like the feeling of being in the living room when driving a car! Perhaps, the interiors will now be one of the main differentiating factors (between the models), influencing purchasing decisions. Also, the physical buttons should remain (doors, windows...). That's my 2 cents :)
This "open design" is a big mistake! I want to drive a sporty car not a greenhouse...... I hate glass roof, and I don't like the low door/ tall window shown here.
Thank you Thomas! Shout out to BMW for slimming the exterior’s front end and making it feel more retro. The new hud looks fantastic and I love the concept. You didn’t speak to the side view mirrors - they looked like small shafts which led me to believe they were actually cameras perhaps with the image displayed somewhere else? Beyond the new hud, the shape / curvature of the seats were very interesting. Last, round steering wheels are just so practical - maybe they could be an option.
Love the way it looks and the return to being able to see out. Even though it may be a call back to earlier BMW design it is actually more modern than the Mercedes which largely dresses up its current space inefficient slug like shape.
I love what BMW is dreaming for. I hope will see such a car in real life. For sure will be on my short list, with one BIG amendment: physical buttons !!!! I think the mostly used functions should stay not far from you, and must be accessible by physical touches
I agree with the physical buttons. I love all things digital, but manufacturers appear to forget that cars primary function is driving and we should focus on driving more than we should focus on millions of screens and projections
I love the idea of integrating the headlights with the kidney grill, finally gives it a real, visible purpose in the electric age. (They should do the same with sensors, cameras etc, if they haven't already).
I would love a future BMW that looked 99% like this concept. Retro Future Design is so so good. Please just give us the concept look no toning down the design!
Please cordroy or sustainable materials like old plastic bottles recycled wool or even recycled cotton great car looks superb and very environmentally friendly and kind to the environment
Needs physical buttons to replace all touch capacitive. I enjoy a large screen but needs a few physical buttons for frequently used like heated seats, climate shortcut button etc. Overall LOVE the design, kinda wish the rear lights were one big strip as their current shape looks a little off but if stayed the same but just as one big light bar that would be perfect!
The overall silhouette is very pretty, and clean looking. I’m happy it’s not another SUV variant. And it’s a welcome departure from the recent BMW horrors.
So glad that BMW of all brands chooses to continue giving us proper sedans, the little design clues reminiscing classic BMW design is absolutely brilliant. Overall this car makes me feel good about the future of my favourite car brand, I have been a little afraid they’d go the Mercedes way and designing cars for efficiency before design and making them all look like computer mouses. Big thumbs from me and if the final version will give us a more classic inside/cockpit, I’ll be all over this. And as extra bonus I’d love to have CarPlay2 and more importantly Apple CarKey. Good job BMW, thank you.
I presently drive a 5 year-old EV, but I'm not sure if I will replace it with another EV. The reason is that the car insurance renewal has gone up 52% in one year! The explanation being given by LV= is the increase costs of claims by EV car owners! I guess this will keep going up much higher than ICE and hybrid cars now that EVs are becoming mainstream and their repair and replacement cost premiums are factored in. No wonder so many EVs are simply written off (insurance wise) for minor damages.
well, teslas are as they have so much componentry in the front bumper and the way they integrate batteries with the chassis. I have yet to see equivalent data from the manufacturers -but expensive electronics is standard with modern ICE cars too
5:17 top of the dash HAS to be black ..it always is. Anything lighter reflects strongly onto the windshield and bothers too much. Everything else can be anything you like..but then you don't get this light ambient feeling.
Great looking sedan, lots of classic BMW vibes!❤❤ I just hope the interior becomes more practical (round steering wheel, physical buttons, rectangle touchscreen). I appreciate the use of recycled materials and CO2 neutral factory.
It’s a nice and well needed reset of BMWs design language. The concept car also looks kind of compact/lean, Curious to see what the production car will look like.
I was BMW guy at my birth. From 70's my late dad had only Beemers. I grew up with E28, E30, E34, etc. Last one was E39, 17 years till the end of the driver. I still have E36 318is coupe and Z3 in my garage but daily drivers are Hyundai Ionic EV and Mazda CX-5. Because Beemer is ugly. Elegance has gone. Last 20 years. But this gives me hope. If Neue Klasse will come this look, I'm back.
Beautiful concept. Maybe this car can be the next design icon from BMW like the i3 is. I just hope they remember to make the car able to fit a roof rack. This was not possible with the i3.
Having had the i3 for a year, I really like having the gear selector on the steering column and having some physical buttons and knobs - I can do things without ever taking my eyes off the road. Please BMW, some physical buttons!
Former loyal customer who know sticks to older BMWs as I can’t take the dreadful SUVs and grilles, this car in estate flavor would get my money in a heartbeat. Well done. A proper driver car that’s not trying to be a crossover or SUV.
Please don’t change anything. This should be the new 3 series as it is. It is simply amazing. I had a 3 series during 1999-2003 and it was a wonderful experience. Would love to go back to such a fantastic car with this new design. It is S I M P L Y B R I L L I A N T.
The silhouette, lighting and interior materials are so unique, and 100% to my liking. And that rear end is perfect! Also, I'd love for them to bring out the corduroy. :-D
I personally don't like having dead cows plastered on the inside of my car, so I'm glad to see an animal-free interior. Corduroy is a pretty cool retro touch. That heavy glass on the roof will need probably electronic tinting. Not sure if that weight penalty justifies this complex use of glass all throughout the top half of the car...
the only thing BMW should do: bring back the e36 style, but make it a bit bigger and modern(similar to this NK E3), plus produce lots of M3 Kombi versions LoL
Love the larger windows and better ability to see outside. Brings humanity back versus boxed in SUV. And finally a grille that is nice. Hopefully they offer a touring version.
I learned to drive on my dad’s E21 which had corduroy seats, which fantastically grip your butt and back when exploring those lateral g’s as one does when learning to drive on a BMW!😊 I’m glad to see they’re finally coming back.
I’ve got a Honda Jazz 2nd generation. Interior materials are cheap but the design is fantastic. Cup holders in front of AC vents. Buttons in ergonomic positions. No daft screen with UI that already looks outdated. The magic seats and boot are possibly the best designed. Built to last, quite sustainable from that point. Can’t see any other modern replacement that matches that.
@5:20 it's a yes for me for the corduroy, but as long as it is of the highest quality.(you can sit on it with jeans without pulling a hole in it, no fading and easy to clean) then again, they're german, so I'm not too worried about quality
Not too sure about the colour of the yellow but absolutely love the swipe up from console to head ups Reminds me of Minority Report computer tech GREAT
Not a fan of glass over my head while i am driving especially when you cannot open it. Sunny days it gets hot even with UV glass and reflections bouncing around including reflection on the main touch screen do not give a good daytime experience. That said, If they include a full coverage electric shade on the roof glass then it could be ok. Also would really like it to vent open for air flow (Volvo XC40 Recharge or the new Porsche Macan are examples of good light and air control through roof glass design) but if it does not open it would not be a show stopper. I owned a Model Y and all glass is fun until its not. Otherwise, love the retro/futuristic design. Good job on the front grill...way better than the large "beaver teeth" look lol. Love the Steering wheel design and white color option and seats look cool (as long as they include 18 way with comfort in mind). My 2 cents for what it is worth ;) .
I love it, overall. The rear end needs some work in styling, but the front and sides are very nice. I think the windows could be moved up to create sleeker profile. And I NEED 3 REAR SEATS, or I cannot even consider as a family vehicle
I really like the front and the stance of this car and the side. Change thee rear lights and give us an analog interior or old inspired one and you have a beautiful 3er BMW. The right direction of design with this one. But please at least the coloured logo
Love this so much. The exterior design is flat-out perfect in my view -- all sorts of subtle nods to BMW's heritage but still extremely modern. With this, BMW has finally figured out how to integrate the kidney identity into a modern, grille-less look. Masterful. There's much I like about the interior as well, but like Thomas, I want real, clicky controls. The center-console screen also seems both over designed and excessively tablet-like, perhaps taking one of the worst cues from Tesla. Still, this overall is one of the most successful concept cars I have ever seen, and I can't wait to see what the shipping version looks like.
From Australia: love everything about it, especially the heads-up display. Perfect and adds a feature which the Tesla model 3 should have. Don't like the shape of the monitor but as a new product designer, would suggest have a less angle on both sides point in or out symmetrically.
