I absolutely LOVE how they integrated Keyleth’s Elemental Wild Shape into the narrative. For those who don’t know, Keyleth is a Druid, specifically a Circle of the Moon Druid. When they reach a certain Level, they gain the ability to turn into different Elementals, namely Fire, Earth, Water and Air Elementals, using a feature called Wild Shape to do so. Not only did they add in that Class Feature, but did so pretty seamlessly by making it a result of passing into the Fire Plane temporarily. Also, in case you missed it, the Soul Anchor that Allura used to bind Thordak to the Fire Plane? If you look back at when they attack Emon, the Soul Anchor is actually *embedded* into Thordak’s Chest. Food for thought-

As a heads up, the person talking with the Dragon at the End is Ripley, the one armed woman who escaped Percy and the Briarwoods in season one. So, Percy's drama is still biting the group in the ass.

Lol Percy’s your least favourite, eh? His voice actor would be proud. Talesan and the cast have always commented on how Percy is just the worst, he knows he’s the worst, and yet somehow everyone wants to be with him. It’s part of his charm.

The "Baby dragons" were a type of fire elemental, Baby dragons are born like normal beings, with mothers and an egg

I loved that this episode was basically a tribute to Avatar: TLA + Korra. It's perfect that they got Korra for Keyleth's mom and Keyleth turned into a Fire Elemental and wiped everything out like aang at the end of Book 1.

Fun fact: Originally, in game, the words used for the flying broom was "AchTuh". Basically spitting. Fun fact 2: Kima's voice is Stephanie Beatriz, voice actor for Mirabel in Encanto. Fun fact 3: In game, Chris Hardwick was supposed to be the one with the broom. And Vex'alia stole it from him with a hell of a stealth/slight of hand roll. Fun fact 4: The one that gave the quote "You have passed through fire" is the fantasy writer Patrick Rothfuss and his character, Ker the blacksmith. Waaay back in season 1 episode 1, Keyleth stumbled and Vax handed her her staff back and said "I think you'll be needing this" and they had a little moment. So that's a callback.

Keyleth is a Circle of the Moon druid. At 10th level, a druid of that circle can use their Wildshape to turn into fire, water, earth, and air elementals.

I loved the tie-ins to the beginning of the first season in this episode too. Way back when the council was talking about how to beat Brimscythe, Alura mentioned fighting a red dragon years ago, and obviously Vax's "I think you'll be needing this" line from episode 1.

I am pretty sure the woman at the end is Anna Ripley. We got a reminder in the big holy city when Percy was talking with that crazy guy who blew up.

This season has been such FIRE! Pun intended ;) Haha. I love this show so damn much and seeing your reactions always makes me smile! :D

There's a moment in a crossover battle when Beau, from campaign 2, looks at Percy and says, "Oh, you're one of those rich boys." And Percy just goes."Oh, yes." And I love him for it. He's not just a noble. He's a snarky asshole of a noble.

The conversation Grog had with the Craven Edge did take place. But in an outhouse!

The phrase "I have passed through fire" is very important to Keyleth's character development, though, I recall it being someone different. There are some minor spoilers involved, though, so... hmm. Also, Syngorn is where the Twin's Dad is from, thus Vex's expression.

A lvl 10 moon druid like keyleth at this point in the story is the only druid subclass that gets elemental beast shapes since she was in Pyrah she was able to turn into her fire elemental form but there are three others air, water, and earth... A moon druid has two beast shapes they can use throughout the day but if they use both at the same time they get these badass elemental forms

Campaign fact: This encounter was where the Broom was originally stolen from another character which has been redacted due circumstances. This is also where Scalan shows off a new ability/item (/dallence) ;) which I won't spoil as it could still show up, but it was really cool in the campaign.

Whenever the players ask something along the lines of "Hey, can we do _X?"_ Matt's standard response is almost always, "You can certainly _try…"_ Players (and not just the ones of _Critical Role)_ often instinctively seek reassurance from the DM that the crazy-ass, off-the-wall scheme they just came up with will work, but a good DM should not simply tell them, "Yes that will work," or "No, that's impossible," because that isn't information that their character would _know._ Not until they actually make an attempt. The exception to that would be if the _characters_ should have experience or knowledge that the _players_ don't, simply by virtue of _living_ in the fantasy world full of magic and heroic feats. Thus, "You can certainly _try…"_ is Matt's way of saying, "I'll let you roll for this, but don't blame me, if it blows up in your face spectacularly."

Fun Fact: When Moon Druids (Keyleth class and subclass) get to a certain level, instead of animals, they can transform into FUCKING ELEMENTALS.

Badass Kiki is badass, I love it. Also Kiki's dad is Fred Tatasciore, who plays The Hulk in pretty much every Marvel animated thing for a while now.

By the way, Ant was right regarding Vax’s headspace. To quote Liam O’Brien himself, who plays Vax: _“Well, I think in the show here, he’s got his head too far up his ass after days ago going through everything they went through at the tomb. So he’s not thinking straight. But Keyleth is so fucking amazing that having a front-row seat [to seeing her enter the Fire Plane], it knocks the sense back into you.”_

So, a little thing I want to share, about the Thordak story Allura talks about around 16:00. So I did make a DnD character set in Exandria (since it's an official DnD universe now! lol) based on that! A Fire Genasi, Ranger, Drakewarden. And her backstory is that she is from the Fire Plane, the City of Brass and all (which I think does exist in Matt Mercer's version of this world, right?). And when Allura's team sent Thordak there, the dragon pretty much took over the place the same way he's doing in Exandria right now. So she had to live in a Fire Plane controlled by an evil dragon all her life! Until Thordak escaped. At that point, some denizens of the Fire Plane, including my character, felt like it was wrong to let Thordak free in Exandria, so they went after him. He got defeated by Vox Machina before she reached it, though, so they weren't needed. Still, on her hunt for Thordak she found a dragon egg, off which Thordak's daughter eventually came out of. She kept her, called her Cinderella (As a reference to the Cinder King, not the Disney princess! :p ), but as such had to stay in the Material Plane, because the people of the Fire Plane would never allow Thordak's daughter in their realm! So she stayed on the Material Plane with Cinderella, and that's her backstory as a Drakewarden Ranger! :p There was also a whole thing where she's somewhat holding a grudge towards the whole adventuring group Allura was part of, because she knows they are responsible for sending Thordak to her people and all. I also had a part of the story where Allura's party DID go to the Fire Plane before; that's how they got the mean to banish Thordak to begin with (which I know is different than what we saw here; I made that character before this episode of the show aired! lol), and one of her teammate actually hooked-up with someone in the Fire Plane, Scanlan-style, and that would make him my character's father! Adding a bit of drama to the whole thing! :) So yeah, that's a character I legit built! I find her interesting, felt like sharing her backstory here! :)

So yeah, Keyleth's player, Marisha, is a massive Avatar fan and Keyleth's whole journey is modeled after Aang's with her coming from the air tribe of her people and needing to master the other elements as part of her journey. They changed the order of things slightly for this show which makes sense. In the game by this point in the main story she's already mastered Earth and Fire (Earth happening in the pre-stream private home game, Fire happening early in Campaign 1 before the events of the Briarwood Arc) and thus only had Water left. It's fitting to have her not have done any of it for the sake of having her go through that journey in the show, so this trip to the Fire Ashari which was a return visit to them in the game stands in for her trial in the show. As far as Keyleth's people themselves go, there are rifts into the elemental planes of Fire, Air, Water, and Earth across the globe, one rift each. The Ashari live surrounding these rifts as a way of protecting them and keeping them shut. The Ashari are all one people just split up into their individual tribes. Each generation someone from each tribe goes off on their Aramente, a trip to pass the trials of the other tribes and maintain contact with their sister tribes. Completing this makes them the leader of their own tribe and a leader of the Ashari as a whole. That's what Keyleth is doing, and that's what her mother vanished doing when she was a child. Speaking of your dislike of Percy being rich, something like that happened in one of Critical Role's fun little semi-non-canon one-shots. Every now and then they like doing Battle Royale episodes where the group fights to the death in a dream sequence, just letting the players have fun fighting each other. At the end of Campaign 2, the next team the Mighty Nein got put up in a team vs team battle with Vox Machina, with half of the players playing Vox Machina and half playing the Mighty Nein. As there are seven players this put the odd one out and so Taliesin would play for both teams, Percy on one side and Molly on the other depending on which team was holding a king of the hill point at that moment. Marisha was on the Mighty Nein team as her badass monk Beau (which again, due to her love of Avatar, resembles and somewhat acts like Korra). During the fight, Beau, a tough but abrasive 20-something who hates authority and people who think they're better than everyone goes up against Percy. She takes one look at her and says "Oh, you're one of those rich kids, aren't you?" to which Percy simply smiles and says "oh yes" before pulling his gun out and shooting at her. Being a half-elf Keyleth has an expected lifespan of about 180 years normally. Being a druid if she attains enough power (i.e. gets high enough level) she can unlock an ability that *dramatically* extends that to the point she only will age one year every decade. So yeah, she's got quite a lot of lifetime ahead of her. Grog's talk with his evil sword and Scanlan being there is a fun moment in the game where this conversation took place in an outhouse in town with Scanlan waiting outside and only catches bits of what Grog was saying. Grog asking Craven Edge if he can be full was interpreted by Scanlan as Grog having filled the toilet. Craven Edge also sighs a lot at Grog's stupidity The flying broom! At the start of Critical Role, the party had a flying carpet they had stolen from Allura previously and it was sadly destroyed shortly before the Briarwood arc began, much to Vex's dismay as she *loves* flying. So during this time in the game they had another guest character show up (kind of like Kash and Zahra, guest players rather than Matt DMing them) and he had a bunch of magic items with him, including a flying broom. Vex, having decidedly not learned her lesson following her greed-induced death experience, stole the broom from him and lied about it falling into lava to cover her tracks, actually taking an alignment shift from good to neutral because of it. But yeah, Vex from this point on now has a flying magic broom that she can use to get around. "We can certainly try", Matt's catchphrase whenever the players want to try something and he doesn't want to confirm or deny their ability to do so. He'll simply tell them "you can certainly try" and reveal if it's possible later. Keyleth has unlocked her fire abilities. She shape changed into a Fire Elemental here.

"Thordak escaped with aid, from someone posing as one of our own." - speculation on this quote always makes me so happy! Amazing stuff you guys, glad you're enjoying the ride! And also, bruh, I'd die for Kiki in a heartbeat she is precious ❤️

If there is anyone who can break Vax out of his colder than usual state, it's Kiki. The fear he felt at the thought that he was about to lose another one, the relief when she returned, the fact that she got him to finally smile again... Even Vex reminded him. That in a heartbeat, Keyleth would drop everything to help Vax. And hearing this is what he needed to snap out of it. *She is his light in the darkness.*

Interesting fact about Percy, all three of the Vox Machina ladies liked him during/before his Orthax arc. Vex was just the most active about it. Pike's player mentioned seeing a light in him (If I recall correctly, it's been a while) and Vex's player openly said that she liked the bad boy thing and wanted to fix him (Albeit in a joking tone). I don't recall what Keyleth's attraction was other than they spent a lot of time together and had a lot of in character conversations. He also gets the eye of fourth player character later on, so Merciful Percival isn't without fans either. But ladies did seem to prefer the No Mercy version more

Fun fact, Pikes family actually took in Grog before the story. So he's literally her adopted little brother.

So the voice actress/player for Keyleth, Marisha Ray, is a HUGE Avatar the Last Airbender fan, so much so that she literally designed her character's backstory with the Dungeon Master around the idea of the Avatar. She is an Air Ashari/Airbender who must travel and master the other elements in order to become the true leader of her people.

Then everything changed when the Fire Nation was attacked... Kiki's Avatar training is coming along nicely though. I've never seen the game sessions, but I'm guessing this is where Kiki advanced to Level 10, when Moon Circle Druids gain the ability to turn in to Elementals.

As someone who has seen all 3 campaigns of Critical Role, NO SPOILERS, but sometimes they say things and I just get the shifty eyes. Can't wait for more of this series.

So the little dragon's aren't actually dragons, they are just beast from the fire plain made of lava. The traitor they mentioned helped open the fire plain.

Just to clarify, Allura saying “We are the reason Thordak escaped” doesn’t mean that she helped Thordak escape. She means Thordak escaped to enact vengeance on Allura and her party (Of course there’s more to it then that, but from her perspective at the time, she doesn’t know Thordak’s plan)

This entire episode is the equivalent of the Sunbeam from Season 1. Keyleth of the Air Ashari has passed through fire, and has been reforged. Yes, Kiki is my favorite of Vox Machina, forever and ever and always.

My theory is that one of Thordak's allies freed him.

So Vex and Vax lived Syngorn (for awhile at least) and are half elves. Half elves face a lot of prejudice in elven society and they talked about leaving in season 1 (episode 4 I think. When they were talking about why they werent just leaving the group) and you see why this season with their full elven father flashbacks. Fun fact: keyleth is also half elf but so are both of her parents I've been a fan of Critical Role since the beginning -even backed the kickstarter!- and I just love watching people who don't know CR's reactions to the show. I found your channel about 3 days before the 2nd season came out and binged your whole playlist! Great work! And I'm glad you are enjoying the show~ Y'all should watch the og Grog/Craven Edge conversation, it happened in an outhouse and was the funniest shit..... literally And if you are ever interested in watching their actual play stuff and want to know more about the Calamity, you should watch Exandria Unlimited: Calamity. It's a 4 part mini actual play series that CR did set during the Calamity and it's some of the best dnd playing and just general storytelling I've ever seen. And you're already past the one spoiler for tLoVM in it. Each episode is 4-6 hours long, so it's a time commitment but it's so fucking worth it! Take it from someone who's been a fan of CR since 2015 and playing dnd for 21 years lol Anyways, keep up the amazing work!

I'll give you one spoiler. It ain't her dad. :-) And Kiki now has the ability to Plane Shift, a spell that lets you travel between planes. She mentions it, but unless you're aware of DnD spells it's easy to miss. That's how she got back from the Fire Plane without opening the portal.

The whole "Fire cannot live without air" platitude _sounds_ really wise and all, but it always bugged me, because that's only true in the exact same way that "fire cannot live" without _fuel to burn up!_ Air does not "pass through fire" unharmed; the oxygen it contains is consumed in the flame just like the fuel that it chemically binds to.

I know this won't be popular but honestly Keyleth is my least favorite member of Vox Machina. I hate none of them. But yeah Keyleth is definitely at the bottom of my list. A truly good and kind character but something about her rubs me the wrong way.

I disliked keyleth the most. But that's because I didn't like marsha as a player. Even in their 2nd campaign she still didn't take the time to learn the most basic things in the game. It pissed me off and as a result I hated Kiki and Beau....

With this show as soon as you see a child you know somebody is about to either die or fake die.
