Again, you've taken this 73 y/o " outdoors girl " to a beautiful place she'll not get to go, you are " the man"... thanks for sharing such an amazing place stay safe
Just watched the video again. Thank you. A Hurricane resident and frequent hiker, a suggestion for the last part of the Subway- Camp-ons, anti-slip treads put on your boots. Walking up that slick river bed is very comfortable with sure traction.
It's hard to imagine the volume of water that carved the Subway and all those potholes over tens of thousands of years. Truly a unique place. Thanks for taking us there.
When you, Tristan, say " unbelievably beautiful" it really means something! Those larger potholes must be fun in the summer, but probably still super cold! You can get lucky in the winter. We've had wonderful T-shirt days in Yosemite in the winter! and you miss the crowds.
At that moment when you said, “it’s not world class yet”. I beg to differ, for me, it’s a world class one already. Man, I love hiking trails with combination of creek waterfalls, snows, and greeneries.
I don't understand why you have such an aversion to other people on your hikes. I always enjoy meeting others who are experiencing the same adventure as I am, and it is good to know that there are others who could come to my aid if I had a mishap. It is almost always quality people like yourself who choose to travel to and hike these beautiful areas.
Thank you so much Tristan, this brings back memories. A few years ago my wife and I hiked to Subway in the Fall and had a wonderful time, I remember a lot of the scenes you showed. We got our permit, and as landscape photographers we found many beautiful scenes to photograph on the way there, as well as the Subway. We started back to the car late, and we ended up stumbling around in the dark with head lamps. Hiking in the dark on a rocky trail that is not always visible was difficult, so we just followed the creek. My wife tripped on a rock and fell in the dark, bruising and cutting her head, and that was when we decided we better stop hiking and found a place to sit and wait for daylight. The next day it was a lot easier in daylight. As you show in your trips, always be prepared for emergencies and it will work out. Thank you for the memories, though my wife would rather forget that trip.
@@SUVRVing Thank you. I made a couple of bad decisions during the trip. We should have left earlier to hike back to the car, and when the sun set and it got more dangerous to hike, we should have stopped and spent the night sooner. I always bring a first aid kit and I was able to stop the bleeding, wash the open cut on her forehead, and bandaged her head before settling in to wait for dawn. She still reminds me of that today whenever I want to push on to take photographs . Thank you very much for your blogs, and stay safe.
I did this hike in Nov 2011, and again in Feb 2023. There was a dramatic difference in the trail conditions with so much more erosion of the switchbacks onto the canyon as well as the leer trail. Still an amazing hike!
Winter is a great time to avoid the crowds. In warm weather, do this hike from the top down. You wade and swim and drop down a waterfall along the way. Did this with my wife 30 years ago when permits weren't needed. We still talk about this adventure.
So much of the quest when visiting National Parks and even many Wilderness areas is trying to find even a smidgeon of solitude. I was incredibly glad to learn recently about dispersed camping and boondocking; they have jump-started my love of the outdoors again. Still, can't beat the parks for much of the country's most mind-shattering natural places. Thank you for taking us along on both kinds of journey! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🫵🏼🫵🏼🫵🏼🫵🏼
Beautiful hike and, in my experience, a pretty rare event at Zion. No crowds! Zion is gorgeous, but I can't take the crowds. Luckily for me, I live in Overton, Nevada by Lake Mead and Zion is just a hop, skip and a jump from here, so I can plan when I go. Mostly in late winter when the crowds are not as big. Would love to do this hike though. Thank for the video.
I am watching this a week after it was posted. Last week, I was on my own Tristan-inspired adventure. I like watch when I can devote my full attention. This was an amazingly beautiful hike. And the footage is awesome, especially knowing Tristan is his own camera man. Thank you so much!
Thanks for filming this special place. It brought back some fond memories. Our family hiked the subway 20 + years ago only we hiked one-way down from the top and shuttled cars. There were quite a few hikers back then in the summer but I don't recall having to get permits either. We had to swim through a few deep pools and climb down steep rocks with ropes. It seemed safe enough in the summer, but I can imagine that route would be dangerous in the winter.
That's the same alarm I use. A pleasant little song to wake up to! That was a chilly way to start your hike. Wow! You are braver than I. Thanks for bringing us along. That's probably not a trip we'll be able to do. Jane in SC
Zion in the winter is awesome, only a fraction of the people. Just as beautiful if not more with the snow. Just make sure you take the right precautions.
Tristan, if you have not done so, hike the West Fork of Oak Creek Canyon, just north of Sedona, Arizona. The main trail is about 6 miles where it ends at a large pool & very narrowing cliffs. The trail sometimes is above the creek, walking in the pines, but then moves down along the stream for some boulder hopping . At times the trail goes across a solid rock canyon floor with small pools & crevices. Depending on the time of year that you hike it, there can be a few waist deep pools to wade thru. The red rock cliffs are beautiful & the trail even goes under what I often call "wave caves" or rock overhangs with tree roots coming thru the overhangs. Fall or spring is probably the best time as we are really starting to heat up here in Central Arizona (Phoenix is about to hit 90 degree in the next day or two). Really enjoyed this video, one of your best!
Definitely worth hiking to see . WOW 🤩 Love all the breathtaking waterfalls and the No People there now aspect. Great job showing us more of the popular Zion park. 🙋🏼♀️👍🏻
Hi I am here at Zion Hiked Angels Landing yesterday. Drove into the parking area little after 4 am just to get parking, started hiking. So glad started early, crowds got unreal on my way down
Hey Tristan just a tip you’ve most likely seen on tv, touch the hood of that car in the lot to see how warm it is. Not that it really matters but you get the drift. Subway is definitely on the list.
WOW, Tristen, this is definitely one of my favorite videos from you. We love the waking up shot and the Cowboy Music at the beginning! Then the incredible hike with some of the most colorful surroundings we've ever seen. You are an extremely talented videographer. Always look forward to your next creation.
You find the most fascinating areas! I wonder if my older dog could gt back in there? And I am 76 now. Combo gorgeous geology and rushing water. Magical.
It is unbelievable view.so spectacular!! No words can describe...so jealous of all the adventures Tristian.watching it now @ work.working graveyard. 🥰😍😛😜❤💯👏👏👏
SO beautiful....I know you enjoyed seeing that. The Wave in AZ. now has a phone APP for the walk on Spots for the WAVE another popular permit only hike.
That looked rather awesome! What a place to have all to yourself, which makes it even more special! BTW: you must have tons of footage of yourself coming back to get your camera ;-)
Awe inspiring video of the waterfalls, Tristan! I can’t imagine your emotions as you were standing there surrounded by all that beauty! Very much enjoyed this, thank you!
I learned so much from this video, about what I could see on this hike and how to prepare. I'd already read and seen videos about the subway, lots, but this has been the best for me. 10/10!
I am 70 years old and not in the best of health, so watching your hiking videos is so much fun! This one was beautiful. Not sure if I liked the subway best, or the rock waterfall, they were both so beautiful. Thanks for the journey.
So pretty! I wonder if the permits don't help them with rescues. They have an idea of where to look for you when they find your car in the parking lot.
Beautiful video, I loved to see the Subway and my favorite part was your alarm on the phone and the following Western music. Looking fwd to your next video. Thank you for posting.
Epic Adventure you are something else Tristan. Your travel vlogs are so amazing. You have breathed life into me. Unable to make most of your journeys due to age and health. May you continue future travels with that great enthusiasm. You are blessed. Angel's follow you on your journeys. I'm long winded
Thank you, Tristan. Once again you have made a beautiful and inspiring video. This has actually inspired me to finally go west again and finally go to Zion. I will plan to do this hike in the winter as well as I am not fond of crowds of people either, but you truly have inspired me...!
Awesome video! I’m always thinking as you climb up the slippery cascades “Now he has to hike back down to get his camera and do the climb again!” So thankful you chose to not add music so we could enjoy the sounds of nature. (But sometimes the music goes great with a video)
I have done this hike both in Spring and in the Fall, and it is a totally different beast in the Spring! So much water. Great video! It’s hard to show the slog that it really is, but you captured it well.
Next time take your fishing gear! Park at the Right Fork or Grapevine trailheads & fish up to where the Left Fork trail comes down - no permit needed & tons of rainbows up to 16”!! My best day was 58 in 1 day there. In 50+ times fishing there I only saw other fishermen ONE time - and they were 2 pro guides from Boulder Mountain on their day off (can’t guide inside the park)! Thanx for the memories! :-)
Oh wow, I was not expecting that. Just, epic! Those icicle's look like jaws of teeth and the feeling of being in the stomach of a whale. I have saved this vid. for a must do trip. Thank you Tristan.
I want to thank you for all of your videos. I am 84 and cannot hike like I use to do. Thanks to youI can go with you and enjoy the wonderful sites that you bing to us. I wait each week for your new adventure,
Thanks for bringing us along on your hike. Great video. Disappointed you didn't stop by and say "Hi" when you were here in San Diego, though. 😂😂 Next time.
Absolutely beautiful Kristin. What a cool place. Again I love the spaghetti western music. I could almost see Clint Eastwood riding through there. Lol ❤️
This is the last of my Zion Big Three! Great video...definitely needs waders (which you can rent BTW for those not knowing the area) as I can see. The waterfalls are incredible and like you say, the juice is worth the squeeze!
Favorite parts include when you caught your first glimpse of the subway. Then it was topped by the actual shot of the subway and you describing it's beauty. Was blown away by the shot of water flowing into the fissure.
Very cool to see it with no people and in winter with icicles, had to be a slippery hike with the ice. The subway part reminds me if the ice caves on Lake Superior by Cornucopia, Wisconsin. So beautiful thanks for sharing!!
