The biggest mistake the leafs made was paying Matthews, Marnier, Tavares and Nylander those big contracts before they proved themselves in the playoffs. Bad management decision all around.
You could say that and I agree. But to a kid in Toronto getting a jersey with those names on the blue and white maple leaf. Is why the get the big buks. The big stars don’t like Canadian media. And would take a pay cut to stay south. Any team would grovel to have these players. But if you believe enough something special can happen. Look it only took pavelski to take a ghost hit on the chin to rally the sharks come back and beat Vegas. Toronto needs that emotional spark.
@@blainepotskin1884 not to criticize you...but do you realize how weird that is....the core 3 have taken $100 in salary, cheated on taxes, not been competitive in the playoffs, have every thing one dreams of, private jet, chefs, therapists.... and now it has come down to words people say to them. They are sooooo pampered you can't even ask them a question, and they are soft ball questions. I would ask....why the hell you can't show up for work?... Why don't you pay your taxes ?.
No other organization would tolerate this Shanaplan era/regime. One playoff series win with the “core four”. No grit, heart, will and desire. At least show up.
I stopped being a fan ten years ago when they lost in game seven to boston. I was done and Im so happy i left. The organization is cursed and will NEVER win! Hockey will be banned bu the coming caliphate before any leafs fans smell a cup!
No other organization would tolerate this..... No offense but you're crazy. Every single organization out there would dream of being able to do what this company does with the mediocre product that it offers. Maximum profits and no stress of having to put a good product available for the consumer to consume. This is a gravy train and they would be fools to change it. If any other organization out there was able to get away with this they would do it in a heartbeat. The players and the company are not the problem. It's the fans that are paying the Bills by supporting the team and buying the merchandise and watching the games that are to blame because they will be there with their wallets wide open regardless of the product being offered. If you were a business owner and you were getting the absolute maximum amount of product possible with your current business plan would you change it?
The organization only tolerates it because it's clear the fans will tolerate anything. At this point, the fans are the problem in terms of performance.
They all have NMCs anyways, so........... trading is out of the question. Every one of them, Nylander, Tavares, Marner, Matthews, and Rielly, have full NMCs. They bent this team over, and just had their way with them.
@@eddy5097 LOL... the Sens have more than enought stars already. The last thing they need is another marshmallow who underperforms when games become meaningful.
@@peterlue9274Their stars (especially Matthews) have attitude issues and aren’t dedicated to winning. They’ve got an $11m 3rd liner. They have zero offensive depth, zero defence, and zero goaltending. It doesn’t matter who the coach is.
@@mitchwatts814 I think they have amazing attitudes given they have to listen to a bunch of people who can't do anything close to what they can give their opinion about shit they know nothing about.
Write that stone. The Bs have it, led by Marchie and Pasta. They play 100%, 100% of the time, forecheck, back check, dive for the puck and hit people! Totally different TEAM.
Yeah. It was weird. It seemed like the ultimate coup to get Lamarello in the first place, and then they got rid of him. It would be like trading Mario Lemieux after his rookie year.
Is everyone really shocked at their playoff hockey? Here in the States we knew Toronto would choke. It’s part of their playoff persona. If you’re a Leafs fan…yes I’m laughing at you. 😂😆
I remember when Daniel Briere said to the Leafs "We are going to the playoffs you are going to the golf course" The Leafs continue to make to playoff and stall.
The fans are the problem. The leafs have no pressure on them to perform other than the pressure they put on themselves which is meaningless because the money keeps rolling in either way. They probably think they are putting pressure on themselves because they really really really want to win a Stanley Cup but that's not real pressure. Empty seats and people tearing up their jerseys is real pressure
Yes, the end of this version of the Leafs is here. They will be dispatched in 5. It's exactly why the Bruins tanked their final two games to get them in the first round. Boston knew that Toronto would be an easy matchup.
@@carbb5760 except he was never the main player, he was always a support player. All the core players in Toronto, are all support players, none of them are star materials with clutch.
Mitch Marner wearing an “A” is what’s wrong with the Leafs. His play is not leadership material and he never plays to set an example for others to follow. Yes im a Bs fan but I love the sport and follow it passionately. I enjoy watching Matthews and was a huge Felix Potvin, Mats Sundin, Gilmore fan growing up. Leadership is what’s wrong with this team. Your core is strong in skill but weak in heart! Too much money for regular season success. Marner is the type of player that will fold and break if this team ever makes it to the Cup.
The Wings went 25 years in the playoffs till they didn’t have anything left. A few bad years and now they’re headed in the right direction again. I truly believe the Wings will win the cup again before Toronto does.
I know this may make you gag, but the Bruins are the better team, especially their defense and goaltending. Anything is possible as far as a comeback, but it's highly unlikely.
the problem is that every single team they played in playoffs is better than them. like sorry 11 playoff games straight in which they scored 2 or less goals. They cant score at all in the playoffs. team based on offense and cant score in playoffs is a disaster.
Its about heart....and the Leafs have no heart. Their core four are individuals, not team players...and that starts with Matthews...and bleeds to the rest of them. They have zero heart...and in playoff hockey...you need heart. Watch Marchand...like him or hate him....he plays with heart.@@theold4734
@theold4734 are we watching the same game? The Bruins have #1 goalies, have shut down scoring and Leafs PP has disappeared. The hits are pretty much equal.
This is what you get when so much of your salary budget goes to so few. This is when the supporting cast should be stepping up. That supporting group would not be able to hit a barn door with the puck. Meanwhile the Bruins are rolling four disciplined lines that are playing a defensive game with purpose.
What supporting cast? They're rolling out with Reaves and he should've disappeared from the league after his stint with Las Vegas, let alone the Rangers. They'd be better off looking for vet min guys from the NFL and NBA that can skate.
For me, as a Habs fan, this is hilarious!! Why?? Because Toronto has this desire to absolutely crap on Montreal. Why?? Because they can’t handle how many times that Cup that resides in Toronto has made the stroll down St.Catherines street. The day Toronto signed Tavares was the day Toronto went in the wrong direction. When you’re rebuilding, you don’t need to have a player eat up 30% of your cap room that quickly, but Dubas is no longer there. You find the filler around your top players. The lesson to be learned? Watch what Toronto did, and don’t do like them. Pretty fun watching a player come close to scoring 70, but can’t do anything in the playoffs, except disappear?! Good luck Toronto, even though it’s insincere 🤣🤣
We've won 10 Stanley Cups since the Leafs last made it to the finals in 1967. A cup ring in each finger while those twits in Toronto are still worshipping their soft and overpaid pretty boys.
The beginning of the end of the Leafs happened years ago, when they bizarrely committed a majority of their salary cap to a small group of highly skilled forwards. That made it literally impossible for them to have any playoff success. In the playoffs you need a deep team with talent spread throughout. You need a Norris Trophy-level defenseman leading a six-deep defense. You need four legitimate lines. You need a Vezina-level goalie.
We saw enough a few years ago. They signed Willy to 11.5 and he immediately stopped producing. How a team can suck so bad for so long boggles rational thinkers.
Crew cuts Straight sticks Black and white tv Most goalies still without masks 4 of 6 teams made the playoffs Win just one round to make the final That was the last time the Leafs won the cup.
There's no doubt the Leafs are a broken team, and as much as I hope they will win a 2024 Stanley Cup, they are unlikely to get anywhere NEAR that late round. Should the Leafs lose their current playoff series hopefully: - Keith Pelley, CEO of Leafs' ownership group MLSE, will end Brandon Shanahan's club presidency after a 10th season, doing so effective no later than the week after that playoff exit has occurred - a break-up of the AM34-Marner-Nylander-Rielly-Tavares quintet will occur
Sad thing is, you know when Marner gets traded he turns into an assist god. It's so frustrating. Maple Leafs AND Man United fan here they are like the same teams.
I am starting to think that I may not live long enough to see the Leafs win a cup in my life. I was 3yrs old the last time the leafs won the cup. Time is not on my side, I may need to live to a ripe old age, with little to no body function control.
Same ol Same ol. Defense is poor, goaltending is always 2nd to the other teams goaltending, the 40 + million a year offence goes dry in the playoffs and we are always out coached.
There are millions and millions of people around the world starving, being killed, and abused every second of the day, and here we are worry about some millionaires putting skates and enjoying themselves. THAT is PATHETIC!
Keefe, Marner, and Tavares first ones to go. NTC don't mean a thing. Once the GM tells the player he's no longer part of their plans, the player will come up with a list of teams he will agree to go to. If they refuse to waive their NTC, then the player gets marginalized by the team and their career nose dives.
no team would take on Tavares contract, and no team will give you anything of value for Marner without Marner signing an extension first (which he won't do if he thinks he may be traded as he will just go to free agency and pick the team he wishes to play for)
This leafs team is no different than last year's club against Florida. Up against a playoff ready team who plays physical, fights for the puck along the boards . The leafs fluff four decide not to compete. The team issue is with those four players. That's where all the money is invested
START NEW THE CORE 4 GOTTA GO KEEFE GOTTA GO NOW, GET A GOALTENDER GENIUSES NOW!!! THIS TEAM IS NOT A TEAM NOT A PLAYOFF TEAM, NOT A TEAM PERIOD MILLION DOLLAR BUMS!!!! LIKE EVERY YEAR THE SAME RESULT!!!
As a devil fan and a hockey fan, I can tell you the issues. It's defense and goalie!! We have the same issues!! NJ devils need a new defensive system and so do the leafs.
lol I’m a devils fan to lol yes Defence and goalies are their issue! Also seen them win 3 times technically the first one I was to young but 1999-2000 and 02-03 I remember fondly
it's been 8 years. EIGHT YEARS. The management is literally insane to think this will ever work. They haven't even come close to making it to the conference finals and have only made it past the first round once (in a series where they were outplayed in almost every game). It doesn't get much more embarrassing than this team.
JT should have stayed in Long Island. He showed who he really was when all that went down. I like JT, a hard worker, but not a veteran when it comes to leading a team deep in the playoffs.
Why did Mathews not play was he so pissed off that they were told to loose? Why is it that the goalies that suck in Toronto become superstars on other teams, If I player would come out to say this he would be finished, and the house of cards would come down. It is a business when you can go just across the border and see the leafs on any other team in Buffalo for $20. IT IS A BUSINESS, I feel sorry for all the Toronto Players who have to be fantastic players to fake it. Kinda like the Wrestlers in the WWE.
You glossed over the reason, a perfect example for why they lose in the playoffs. 2 of the leafs best players have missed 3 games and a vital 3rd period with a headache and stomachache. Bruins player especially their leaders play through pain and injury in the playoffs if possible. Too many to name. Heart, intensity, urgency, intelligence are all missing from the leafs and has been for years.
I hate playoff results but I hate the stuff said. Do you know why Nylander was out? Now, Matthew's time was cut and he was hardly skating so you can guess he was sick because you saw it.
@@S_67F reality sucks. Hate playoff results. WTF is that. Guy plays all year then out for the playoffs. Whatever it is, the point is toughness in the playoffs. Not fighting, winning puck battles. Playing hard, tough and smart. The leafs have proven they don't have it...for years now.
@@davidmowry8951 Their play is for shit. But don't tell me Nylander decided to turn into a princess after 82 games. Now Matthews ....I'd love to hear the story but I wish Bill Belichick or Urban Meyer could have him 😕
@@LucicPower And if I was coach I'd be screaming that at them! I would love to know if there are League rules for spreadable shit? Especially after COVID🤔
The leafs are able to crush middling teams in the regular season on the back of individual performances, they playoffs where individuals don’t make as much of an impact as a full team effort, they evaporate
The Leafs have these superstars but in actuality are a middling team themselves. Look at the regular season standings. All the other Canadian teams that made the post season have more points.
@@bogeybichon7000 ..really? Look back at the last game of the season against TB. Bystander skated away from the TB D man and headed to the bench. Not even a poke check. The D man then passes down the ice for TB’s 5th goal of the game. That’s why Bystander was sat out.
Yup, tear it down. Fire Keefe and Shanny and trade Marner, Samsonoff and Broady. Then you have 20 mil to get a number one goaltender, a solid D man and bring in Quenville to coach. I can't believe that Keefe would put out the 4th line with 3 minutes to go!
History shows they can force a game 7… but do they have what it takes, or will they break the cycle in a bad way (i.e. losing to Boston in less than 7 games for the first time since long before the lockout) They must scratch Reaves (who is primarily responsible for the 1st Boston goal) and put in Connor Dewar, and start Joseph Woll
Toronto has a lot of scoring potential, but You need a goalie 🥅 in the playoff’s. The best player on a playoff team HAS to be the goalie, or you won’t make it past the second round..!
I'm a lifetime Bruins fan. The series is not over. Don't count your team out yet. The Leafs are a great team...I just think the pressure is too great. They have playoff anxiety.
The Leafs are done because their coach won't demand his team to fix their lack of defence. They bunch up, all going for the puck in one spot and get in each other's way, while the opposing team remains spread out so they can pass it to each other, and not collide with each other. Also, when the Leafs are on the defensive and boxed in, they will just stand still and watch the other team pass it to each other, instead of skating towards the opposing player with the puck and forcing him to shoot the puck too early to be of any use. This has been going on for years. First step for improvement is to fire their entire coaching staff.
Coaching staff has got to be replaced. Bottom of the league in team D special teams have been atrocious. Bring in Dale Hunter or Adam Oates. We need a true #1 Goalie, and D core. Tavares only has one more year on that albatross of a contract. Then offer him 2 million tops for a following year. These kids need to grow up!!
Auston matthews is a layer ANY team would love to have. However, Auston is a Scotty Pippen type personality. Maple Leafs need that charging Number 1 player that Auston can play behind and not have to worry about carrying the team.
Mathews sat out the third period. Are you kidding me. Patrice bergeron played with a punctured lung. Tkachuk played with broken bones. I think mathews quit on the team becaue they where down 3-0. A player with heart wouldnt sit out the third because of a sore tummy.
Edmonton is the next cup dynasty if the Mathews trade is done. Mathews & Hyman as part of Oilers core would bring the cup back to Edmonton. Do whatever it takes to make the trade. Get it done & move forward in Edmonton 👍
This is the first analysis of the game that I've seen that mentions even the possibility of a Leafs comeback. If that happens, a lot people ranting about this team right now will be idiots.
Beginning of the end for Shanahan who should have been removed for hiring Babcock. The Leafs need a system that stretches from the AHL to the NHL like so many other teams. They don't develop talent, at all. Woll and Lily are the only players who've come up through the system and contribute regularly. The management needs to go. You can only play the exact same plays over and over and over before other teams catch on.
I made a point of not watching a single second of Leaf hockey this season, and I swore I would not watch the playoffs unless they made it to the conference finals. Maybe I'll see some of them on the golf course later this week...
Last night before the game they showed clips of Bob Cole and on those clips you saw players with heart and guts such as Gilmore Clarke potvan wregett sundine ect. There is no one on this leafs team whit any heart or guts
The league needs to make a miniature version of the cup just for the Leafs, awarded for making it past the first round. Then it can be used to hold the tears after they fail in the 2nd round. I mean they went 19 years not making it past first round before the whole "WE WANT FLORIDA" bullshit, they gonna make it a 20 year streak this time? This entire team is softer than baby poop
The Traditionnal way to build a team start with the goalie than the defense and end with the Offense. Toronto way of doing things start with Offense Fill up the defensewith 1/10 of the Offense budget and hope for the best i.e the goalie will goal on his head and save the leafs when the hard time will cum.
A lot to unpack here. As usual, the Leafs need to get out of town during playoffs. They are up tight and it is showing. They look as if every stride of skate is because they are trying to catch a bus that's already leaving. They do NOT look relaxed, they look like they are floundering, especially defensively and I have the feeling that it might be in the coaching. ANY team in the NHL right now can take a lesson from the Panthers and their coaching staff. I haven't seen such a consistant team of middle of the road to good players do so well time and time again. They are tough, they don't stop and they are loosey goosey on the ice. Their mindset is, "What can I do this shift to win?" and not "Gee I hope I don't screw up this shift!" They are hesitant on their forechecking and you can tell with the outstretched sticks and them not quite being there on que. I can sure think of a lot of players ahead of Marner that they could trade. Marner is the backbone of that team when it comes to setting up plays. They are overflowing with talent but it hasn't been tempered in the fire the proper way. (Again coaching.) The only thing they can do at this point is to go out in next game and make sure they win every shift... one shift at a time... as a TEAM.
Bro. You're the only one here that's making any sense. Marner has issues, but is such a valuable playmaker that it'd be illogical to trade him. He should be the foundation, and everything else should go except Knies. Signing Tavares and the Willie twice gimped this team.
Replacing the coach with a ball buster would make them play harder. Yes the players would hate him, but that’s what this group apparently needs. The fact that they came out harder in the third proves they had it in them to work harder.
Mitch has a ton of talent and works well with Matthews, they never should have changed that line. I'd hate to see Mitch get traded but if he lands on a solid team he'll shine.
This team is shit, the core 4 never should have been resigned, Shanaplan is over get rid of everyone from top to bottom and find good hockey people who know how to win, why did the sign the GM from Calgary when we had so many better prospects why do we want Calgary's recycled garbage ? did this guy put a winning team together is Calgary. NELL NO.. Toronto ownership is crap, they don't care about a winning team because they will always fill the seats. until the fans wake up this will never change
