They were separated for 20 years! I know only one person that ever declined an inheritance, although she had every right to it. She is a person of integrity. Apart from that I know a dozens of inheritance horror stories about greedy insatiable family members.

I agree as well, but there is no chance in the world she is doing that. She wants to get her hands on everything he owned. She was staying married to collect benefits and now thinks that she should inherit his estate. I would really want to know what the kids thoughts are in all of this.

There's nothing that brings me more joy than when Dave cuts audio for the caller.. it doesn't matter who the caller is and what their scenario is... when Dave pushes the button it's such an appropriate time for them to shut up and it's just hilarious to watch the emotion that he puts into a simple button push while trying to also maintain a bit of discretion about the button and what it does

I knew of another "odd" couple such as this. They were devout Catholics and it's a sin to get divorced. They also lived separately in different states for decades. You are chomping on her for being "a vulture" without knowing the details! He clearly didn't want to divorce either-or he would have. And he allowed a portion of his pension to go to her as his wife. She is legally entitled to his assets.

Or maybe she wouldn’t sign the divorce decree so didn’t bother pushing it farther. It’s also possible that she didn’t push for child support if he didn’t file for divorce. There are a hundred reasons people wouldn’t file, very few are good reasons. I think the kids should get the house, not her

However, I think 20 years separated, living in different states, and filing separate returns might be viewed as fraud, but I am not sure of that.

He wasn't claiming to be married on his taxes and the fact you are claiming marital benefits from the VA, you are committing fraud. You are owed nothing from this man according to Pennsylvania. Exactly. Dave is a big advocate of the law being on your side when legally married. Now in her case he wants to dismiss the law and ask about morally. Right and left at same time. What you are missing: How does she prove what didn't happen? There is no certificate that denotes no divorce, the burden of proof is the other way.

Can John please at some point answer a call without at some point talking about somebody feeling "safe". I mean dude every single caller, he mentions that they either don't feel safe, Or he thinks they need to feel safe. Or there aren't being made to feel safe. It's so overused when he talks on these phone calls. It sounds like somebody who read one psychology journal on mental safety and applies it to everything lol. Also, She briefly mentioned something about protecting the kids but in no way shape or form was their confirmation of abuse or whatever so I don't get why hes over speculating so much about the guy being abusive

Yes and often it's because of specific financial gain in staying technically married. I know a couple who were sharing her health insurance, living separately, for a decade or so. It gave her children an extra measure of stability that their dad was taken care of in that way, however unstable the rest of his life may have been. Other examples I can't think of at the moment. Everyone makes choices and marriage means different things to different people. 😂 There is no one-size-fits-all utopia!
