I started c25k in October 2018. It's the best exercise I've ever did and I'm still doing. It shows that if you've got the right plan in place . Running if done properly can actually be addictive and you actually look forward to running . Great for physical and mental health

I recently started running a bit more, when I started I was doing only a block (literally one block) and was 222 lbs today im celebrating 20 pounds off my body (202.6lbs) and the ability to run up to 5 miles!!! Guys I’m so hype and yes it changes your mood and just about everything.. For those that have just started, don’t worry if you only run a block (like me) just keep it up! There’ll be pain on the feet, a couple of injuries and you’re going to have to rest it off for a week or so but don’t quit and keep it up, don’t stop, it gets better I promise!

I started running twice a week in intervals. I've built up to a steady 2-3 mile run. I love it. My background is/was competitive bodybuilding/powerlifting/strongman. I was 243 lbs back in December and made a promise that once I got to my goal weight at 210. I started to run and got the mentioned pains. But it's getting better. One very cool effect is that my lower abs are now as prominent as the upper four-pack. I've also increased my carbs and I'm still looking at 210-212 weekly. I'm only doing twice-weekly running. I also do strongman events once per week and bodybuilding work. My goal is to look like a superhero without competing. My granddaughter is also my goal at 54 I want to remain healthy, steroid-free, and look better than the average 50+ guy. Plus looking jacked is always bad ass LOL

The way I dealt with shin splints was to jog very slowly for a day or two till they went away. For plantar-type pain Ibuprofen 200 mg. tablets are amazing, and inexpensive. The tablets are far better than the cream or ointment.

I absolutely love running and have seen more benefits doing it than any other movement . What upsets me is hearing time and time again how cardio isn't good and we need to be doing weight training more. I do agree that weight training is massively beneficial but let me enjoy my cardio! Why are so many people negative about it? Maybe the people who put cardio down just can't handle it or something I don't know 😂 I personally like doing a run then about 30 mins of weight training. Maybe no one else has heard the negative talk about it but I see it on all the fitness accounts on Instagram. Usually someone with massive muscles saying how shit cardio is and that I need to start lifting

Rungry. I've never heard the term, but it's absolutely true. When I was training for my marathons, I felt like I had a tapeworm. No matter how much I ate, it never felt like it was enough. After my Saturday long runs, I would two different breakfasts and still be desperately hungry for lunch. All of this without gaining any weight. And nipple chafing. Yep. That's rough. I made a rookie mistake and wore cotton on a semi long run. When I got back to the house, I felt like I had been sandblasted. Performance fabric + Body Glide = no more chafing. 👍🏼👍🏼

I would say fortunately rather than unfortunately for you! Thanks for the reply. Who knows, maybe it is unrelated to the running anyway.

Running is the fastest way to lose weight. I bought a new Garmin and have been running everyday for the last 2 months. My clothes fit better. I feel so mentally great and overall stronger. People make the mistake of running too fast. Pace yourself. At first just walk/run to build your endurance and have fun!

If you have black toes nails, you should keep them trimmed as much as comfortable, and get shoes that have the heals at the same height as the toes and plenty of room in the toes for toe splay. It’s not normal for people under the marathon level.

I'm more prone to black toe nails if I walk for a long time . Running never gave me black toes. I only got Achilles heels from wearing cheap running shoes or kept running in old shoes.

@@runningchannel It's complicated. I think it's because my hiking shoes need to be broken in! My running shoes prevented black toes from walking (on paved roads) caused by my hiking shoes. Also wearing my running shoes for hiking over boulders and tree roots gave me black toes.

I had the same toe nail fall off 3 times. Don't worry, a new one grows in underneath the bad toe nail before it comes off. Don't let your toe nails get too long.

I don't know if this is true, or even whether I remember it correctly, but I'm sure I once read a study that said professional dart players (some of the unhealthiest _looking_ "sports" people on the planet) live longer than cyclists. It was something to do spending your live standing Vs sitting. Again, you'll have to verify this, I may have dreamt it, haha.
