The STA circuit does go through the clutch switch, but it as an input to the ECU is really only as a check, allowing the ECU to know the engine should be cranking by way of the starter motor. Kind of similar function to when your Forrester threw crank/cam sensor faults when the starter went out, it's version of that STA circuit told the ECU to be looking for those signals, which it wasn't seeing. I personally nerd out hard on this kind of work, but you did a most excellent job of keeping it interesting for about everyone else. As long as you include the appropriate punctuation, in your head, while talking, sentences can go on forever...

Having wired up many after market ECU's I agree totally most of the screw ups occur when you take the wire color for granted. I always do and end to end map of the wiring it takes time but always saves in the end.

I also forgot to mention that JDM to USDM is sometimes off by one MY since Japan releases these cars one year ahead usually. That and sometimes plugs can have a wire or two in different pin slots.

Just buy the bearings on line (not the cheap ones) and take the hubs to your local repair shop (like an alignment shop) and then have them take out your old bearings and press in your new ones. Shouldn’t be more than $100.

@larryordine7542
@larryordine7542 3 года назад
I was thinking I would have hooked up the new ECU to the old harness and made sure it worked before ripping everything out and introducing numerous potential miswire faults in my fabrication process; then changed the body harness and made all those extensions. And truthfully I would have skipped the new harness and just troubleshooted the old one and added a new fuel pump resistor circuit and any others that tested with too much resistance or intermittent continuity when shaken. They spayed everything down in CRC 226 to restore electrical contacts and drive out the moisture. I can't imagine doing the work you just did on anything less than a pre war Bugatti. Which would of course be so much simpler. Alas, I lack your courage, patience and skills, to say nothing of your confidence. You are an inspiration to every DIY builder lacking the funds to pay someone else to get it done. I salute you. Love from, and beautiful weather in... NYC. Larry

At times, I find myself taking a longer time doing things to do them the way I feel they were meant to be. So, to see you break things down and do them how you want to do is completely understandable/relatable. Thank you!

about 13 years ago, i had a cressida i was doing a 1JZ swap, that already had a 2JZ swap with a butchered harness. after many endless days and nights of redoing the harness, I never got it to run. I ran out of money (I was in college) before I could getting it running. So many what ifs but nice job doing things right. fast forward to today and I got another project car sitting in the garage, I don't plan on giving on on this one though.

My 68 spitfire had a cross circuit between the brake lights and the ignition. If it was raining you could remove the key and the engine would continue running as long as your foot was on the brake pedal. Since the parking brake was rusted solid, parking on a hill was a balance of letting it roll till it died then brake and put it in gear. Got to love a car with only three fuses.
