I'm not sure I would use those injectors in another engine. I'm guessing the injectors caused the pistons to melt. Good to finally see why it was smoking so bad - I'm surprised it actually ran! Good luck on the hunt for a new one.

Thanks for showing us the Engine in that state... Not seen one like that before... Definitely was overheating for a long time 😮😮

injectors are bad , caused the burnt pistons , should think the turbo will be shot too after having bits of pistons through it

What an abused bag of bits that engine was, Good call on pulling it for another, Shame about the other engine getting damaged & setting you back. Hope you get a replacement engine sorted out soon.

Jeez what a mess mate, good call changing the engine. I would check the injectors and turbo if you are swapping them to the new engine, worth cleaning out the egr as well. Good luck man.

Hi Paul the pistons have started to melt caused by over fuelling Ford had a problem like that with the crossflow engines with two an three cylinder when they were to Ritchie the unturned fuel ran down the bores and burned on both the top and underneath the piston set the unturned fuel on fire ,when the piston melted it deformed the rings and made the bore oval .cheers

I would have to take the pistons out and save them for any times I was going to be around a group of fellow mechanics and casually take them out of the box and ask if they have seen anything like this. That should be a first class conversation starter. As for, do you want still want the engine, after it fell off the back of the truck and was broken, you just have to hope he doesn't make any executive decisions for the company. Grand video as always. Thank you.

That would divide actual knowledgable Mechanics’s for Part Fitters, which an awful lot of Mechanics are these days. Just struggled for over a week to get a Mechanic to do a Head Gasket as I don’t have a Garage or place to work on a car anymore So far they all want to swap in a new engine as it’s easier The car is only just starting to pressurise the cooling system, no coolant in oil yet, very small amount of oil in coolant, engine hasn’t overheated and runs smooth so a good candidate for head gasket rather than replacement engine

HI Paul I would like to now the reason for the damage on the pistons.
@rosschamberlain1823

Could be that engine was detonating heavily which eroded the pistons in that manner. Hope you find a replacement soon!

Looks bad Paul just wandering are the pistons worn like that through faulty injectors 👍

Hi Paul yes ive seen that piston crowns that have melted caused by high exhaust temperatures and too much fuel. Ok you may have made the right decision to install a replacement engine but the engine you have removed is still rebuildable. Rebore, new pistons and liners and new main bearings and big ends cylinder head taken to engineering shop to be reconditioned. Also would have all the injectors reconditioned you might have some not spraying properly

ya that engine is bad, I've not seen edges like that, seen one where it burnt a hole through the top, that was a 'smoker' too :)

Instead of lumping things onto an engine for co2 etc why can manufacturers not start from a basic engine therefore they might be easier to work on and lighter therefore a car might get more mpg...then we would never hear the word ev.....EV WERE FOR CITY ONLY !!!!
