In Jedi Survivor, Dagan Gera grows a limb with the force, I thought this was cool...then I thought, wait, why can't Vader, Maul and everyone else do this?
Do High Republic Jedi have more powers than prequel and OT jedi? Why can't Anakin regrow his lost limbs with just the force when he needs to?
Let's talk about this scene from Star Wars Jedi Survivor

1) This takes place in an illusion/altered perception. 2) He didn't regrow an arm it is just representing how he is using the force to hold the saber essentially. He uses the force as if he has that arm a couple other times as well but we just see the saber floating. Not really a new power, just a visual representation of him using the force to fight with one of his sabers + possibly a force illusion.

Cal very clearly points out that all of the insane force powers that he was using were simple hallucinations when you defeat him. So even though it looked like he flipped gravity and you were fighting on the ceiling, you see the moment you defeat him how you're suddenly back on the floor again and that's because Dagan was making you believe all those things were happening. Cal turned this around on him to defeat him by making himself appear as Santari to throw him off and get the final blow. None of it was real it wasn't some new special abilty, just basic force mind powers like we've always seen, played up for the sake of gameplay which I don't mind from the stand point of a video game but narratively is always very frustrating. It's like genjutsu in Naruto, when Itachi makes you think you killed him 5 times in a row what's the point in even watching the fight anymore.

In the first fight with Dagan I noticed his “right” saver was behaving as if it were being held by a hand that wasn’t there. Not just floating around on its own, but moving as if held by a phantom limb. In the second fight, here, I reckon it’s just being shown as a visualisation as it’s part of the illusion he creates when he flips things around. I definitely don’t think he just grew a new physical arm lmao. Definitely got me wanting to read into his info from the in-game databank to see if it’s mentioned there.

The high republic has a huge focus on jedi and their specific force powers. For example, there is a jedi named Avar Kriss that has a sort of battle meditation ability that links jedi within a certain range and empowers their force abilities. Another example is a character named Vernestra Rowh, who is appearing in the acolyte, that has an affinity for finding hyperspace paths that lead to new discoveries. Her padawan, Imry, is incredibly strong at reading and influencing people's emotions. The list goes on and on, but long story short, the jedi in the high republic are built different with the force.

While I don't think his arm was a special force ability, I think it would be super cool if there was a Jedi who could actually SEE the force, like in the final stage of that boss fight. As a dev (not on the Fallen Order team), this is almost definitely a gameplay decision, not a storytelling one. Making the arm exist visually makes it immediately obvious what's happening in the cutscenes and makes the animation easier to track in combat, rather than paying attention to a small object like the lightsaber moving around. It also makes it clearer which enemies are copies. Story wise though, you can credit it to Cal's post-cognitive abilities. He sees the echo of what was there.
@superscott9780
@superscott9780 Год назад
I don't see it as a new hand because it's blue which means it's Force so to me it's a normal lines of keys using the force to control that lightsaber and he's using it as though his hand is still there like if his hand were to move in any direction that's the look and the feel of the direction it would go but his hand is still missing he just perceives it still there it's a very interesting way of looking at it but that's the way I thought about it
@cmatt9374
@cmatt9374 Год назад
I mean I kinda get your point, but at the same time, at the end of the fight, Cal did mention that he formed some sort of “force hallucination out of fear.” So I do think that’s why we see the arm. We also see that he grabs Bode in this fight and he only grabs him with the arm that didn’t get cut off. Also in the previous fight with Dagan, we see that, sometimes, he uses the force to hold the other part of his lightsaber where his other hand would be, but we didn’t see the force arm. So maybe he’s just levitating his other lightsaber with the force and we only saw the force arm in the final fight because he was having that “force hallucination.” Idk that’s just my take, I questioned it a little bit when I went through it too, but after when I actually thought about it, it kinda made more sense to me. I hope you read this Theory and if you do, please let me know what you think. MTFBWY

Or maybe it's like a Force Ghost arm that he can control like a regular one, which when you think about it, actually makes a lot of sense; if you can manifest an entire ethereal body through the Force, why not just a single limb? It's the same with Dagan's Force illusions later in the fight. We already know the Force can create false experiences that are perceived as real, like when Luke fought Vader in the dark side cave on Dagobah. Why shouldn't a powerful enough Force wielder be able to create a similar illusion? These aren't like the Disney ST, where the Force was basically turned into a Marvel superpower. Everything Dagan does is something we've seen before in one form or another.

I see this as Cal becoming more accustomed to using dark side force abilities. Throughout the story, we see Cal become more untethered to where he stands in the universe and with the force. Now that he is walking a knife's edge with the light and dark side of the force. He is able to physically see these abilities, especially when entering Dagan's illusion. The High Republic jedi do have a "stronger" connection in the force and can manifest different abilities than the current era Jedi. Nonetheless, I do see this more as Cal becoming more comfortable with the dark side than Dagan using some new ability we haven't seen before.

Dagan is Umbaran I think so not just a normal human. Different races in Star Wars have different abilities not just physical but with the force. Some can see in the whole visual spectrum, some can regrow limbs, some have the ability to resist mind probes etc. Jedi like Naomi Sunrider could (I think) conjure phantom fleets with the force so why not create a phantom arm with the force. Dagan seemed particularly skilled at creating illusions using the force, he multiplied himself so Cal faced 3 of him at one point and the phantom arm was just another illusion Dagan used. Also like the illusion that Cal was on the ceiling when Cal was always on the ground

Hmm... for me on that scene the arm was completly invisible. It look like he was just really controlling it with The Force, although the position would ressemble it was being controled by an invisible arm. Unless that takes place on a different scenario. Is that on the Lucrehulk in the swamp? Because that's where I fhought him, but all by myself, without Bode aid (he shows up just in the end of the fight)

I don't know that much about the High Republic era Jedi but from what I've heard online the Jedi of that time were more attuned to The Force and were more willing and open to experimentation and pushing what it meant to be a light-side user. Therefore, they had much more power than the Jedi of the time whom we all have known about for the last 46 years. Also from what I've heard online the High Republic era Jedi were not an official part of the Republic and they were more like the superheroes of The DC and Marvel comics who are always willing to help people that can't fight for them selfs.

I have few though on this: 1. I like to think that this is a temporary thing. 2. It can't last for ever. 3. It can only be done on a single limb, And 4. Maybe it's a dark side thing. And to why Sidious didn't tell vader, well it would it easyer for him to over power him and become the emperor/ the master of the sith, himself. Sidious did have plans to live forever after all.

Like everyone is saying, its a force illusion from Dagan making it look like he regained his arm, when in reality it is a visual representation of dagan using the force where his missing arm would have been to wield one part of his lightsaber. Still, these force illusions are very unique and powerful, with the clone Dagans and all the force slams and shockwaves that probably in real life are disrupting the force within Cals Mind, and giving him lethal brain damage. So in a way it is still a new force ability, powerful in the mental world, but not as OP in the physical world. It seems Dagan can manipulate the mental state of people through the force, killing them by inducing visual illusions that amplify force abilities, destroying both the mind and body.

I feel like is a A Phantom Limb Force Construct. In medicine we have something called a Phantom Limb. The phantom limb syndrome has a neurophysiological character, in which the amputated part dismembers from the body, but not from the brain, which causes symptoms associated with pain called phantom. And if we applied this concept to the Force. His arm was removed from his body, but it is still connected with his brain, with his mind, with his awareness of the Force.. So he is able to reconstruct his member in a phantom way. It is not the same thing as rebuilding a liver or a heart because the awareness of his arm is different.

Maybe this was like a high republic force power lost to time?! While I think it is OVERLY convenient it could be cool to see the force used in unique ways that may have been forgotten by newer force users since nobody has used it in AGES? Just my theory anyway ! I heard you touch on this as I write this up lol. But maybe yoda deemed it unnecessary to learn or to teach as yoda is about not holding onto the past and trying to only focus on what has already been lost isn’t the Jedi way?
@ThatWorks
@ThatWorks Год назад
If I had to steel man the case for this being ok, I would say the reason why Ani and Maul didnt just grow limbs at the time was, they never practiced it. Why would they? But if you lost a limb perhaps you would dedicate a decent amount of time to trying to learn that. So then it would be possible to do for a time.

The reason Anakin couldn’t do it is most likely he wouldn’t know about that and even if the Jedi knew or had books or holocrons about that, Anakin wouldn’t have access to that type of information only Yoda would have access to something like that, Palpatine wouldn’t know about it because Dagan wasn’t a Sith in his proper time so there wouldn’t be any sith holocrons discussing the ability itself

i feel this is not a "he used force regrow limb" but rather a visualization of how effortlessly he can use the force to wield his saber and that it is just as good as if he had his arm. the game could have easily just shown him flinging around the light saber and i dont think many folks would mind, but this added visualization adds to the effect. its why they didnt show an epic scene of his arm growing in or manifesting, instead they show him casually raising his second saber in an attempt to over power cal. Dagan Gera has been shown as extremely proficient in the force and saber combat and i think this was just the way the game shows that. the difference in media also can effect it. games need to be made in a way that balances gameplay and story, and i think this did that superbly. giving him an arm representation adds another stance the enemy can now use but also give the player a visual que for when they need to parry (which is also extremely important). i hope my take on this makes sense

@theangryimp1345 Год назад
He's just holding the saber with the force.... its a representation. Not literally a new hand. You're seeing him fight with the saber. It's not regrowth. It's just a meta representation. Cal can see the past. He has a connection with dagen who could see him from the future. Thay have a link. It's not real just emotional or meta. It's just to show that.
@supremeleader844

I'd say instead of a literal force arm. You can still pick up and use objects with force without the use of limbs. Like if there was no physical manifestation of a force arm and was still using a weapon without one, it would have made a lot more sense and maybe been way more cooler. You know an invisible hand sort of thing. Oh wait...so yeah an illusion
@drdapper1899
@drdapper1899 Год назад
Nah in the second duel in the lucrehulk you can see him wielding his saber with two hands, without the force hand. He foregoes getting a mechanical hand cause he’d rather just use the force as a hand. When there are no force illusions, you can see him doing this without seeing the hand. When the illusions are going, you can see his hand the way he does. He doesn’t “grow” an arm. It’s a visualization of him telekinetically wielding his saber

For me it had to be a visual interpretation of him using his other saber with the force, like how it floats around by it self in earlier boss fights with Dagan. The arm isn’t really ‘growing back’ it’s more just explaining it to the audience.

I think a good way of looking at it is that he was likely just using the force to move the lightsaber around, and during that illusion, it showed what he was doing with the force, using it like a limb when in reality it’s was just the force, not to mention he was bathing in the bacta for over 300 years, meaning his limb wasn’t aching or in pain like it would for Anakin after he lost his limbs. Once he began to get used to not having a limb after his first fight with Cal, I assume he simply began using some kind of training he was given back in the Old Republic Days to use the force as a replacement limb. That is how I see this situation anyway…

I just assumed that since he was well trained with using the force to telekinetically control his lightsaber he was just hovering the lightsaber as if he had an arm in place. Another alternative is that this fight has 'Illusion' elements towards the end and this is just another one of these illusions. OR you can combine both of these theories that Dagan has been using the force as his second arm the entire time (Not literally I mean as a 'phantom limb' situation where people try to use their limbs as if they still have them and feel them.) and only in this fight does Cal see it and is able to see Dagan's lightsaber technique how Dagan sees it and perhaps that is how he overcomes him in this fight? I just think if he had the ability to regrow his limbs he would have done that from the very start instead of waiting till the end of the fight.
