Also my favorite controller if all time. Love the size, shape, the d-pad of this generation, especially love the placement and size of the ABC buttons because they are clearly inspired of arcade cabinet buttons that are larger, but they are still small enough for a pad. It looks cool. It’s curved and round in all the right places. As great bow as it ever was Just the best!

I use the six button controller more these days but I have to agree, the three button controller is as close to perfection you can get.

There are people my age like saying bullcrap like, "i was born in the wrong generation". I wonder what they'll think when they are in the 90s and see this controller and other ones (still, i LOVE the Genesis controller)

@Lightblue2222 indeed my fav controller but there 3 or 4 versions sold 1989 red letters worse dpad 1990 white lettters bad dpad, 1991 no color letters meh dpad and 1993 no color on buttons best dpad (same as 6 button dpad)
@Lightblue2222
@Lightblue2222 4 месяца назад
@rustymixer2886 I have identified 3 types by their dpads. You're right the dpads weren't consistent, and some are better than others. I made a 2nd part to this video comparing this one to another, both no color on the button letters "but they can wear off so may have at one point." .. the better dpad here is the one where the dpad is smaller, I show the difference in size. It feels like the 6 button, very light to the touch and clicky. As where the larger dpads you have to press harder because there is friction between the plastic. There are also some dpads that have a shiny glossy coated plastic and some with a rougher finish. This video shows 2 rough matte finish dpads, and their minor difference in size. I'll find it and post a link here. :)

@Lightblue2222
@Lightblue2222 Год назад
Growing up I had 2 of them. 1 I hated and the other I loved. They looked the same except 1 had a terribly tight and crappy dpad, as where the other was light and clicky. I later found out that all the original Sega 3 button pads suck, and the later 3 button pads ruled. I believe this is why there is some that hate and some that love because Sega wasn't consistent in their quality of the same product.

Nice, I also have Ps1 and Atari 2600, both with their original controllers. Years later I discovered that the Sega Genesis controller actually works on the Atari2600! I much prefer plugging a Genesis pad into the Atari. They use the same connector.

@Lightblue2222
@Lightblue2222 4 года назад
Same here. Great game. MK2 is playable with the 3 button controller. Just imagen X is between A and B, and Z is between B and C. The way the 3 button is designed its buttons are bigger and closer together than any other controller. Pressing A + B = X high punch. Pressing B + C = Z high kick A= low punch B= block C= low kick Somehow it still ends up being responsive, though I'd really recommend the 6 button for all MK games. To use 6 button controller on MK2 you have to go to options and change it to 6 button configuration. MK1 and MK3 senses the controller type and switches automatically.

Hmm, idk I have the glossy version but I really like it, still a major Nintendo fan love my snes and nes but I got a genesis to kind of try something new and I like it.
@Lightblue2222
@Lightblue2222 4 года назад
The glossys aren't by any means bad, plus they might not all be the same. My glossy just seems to tire my thumb faster. It's also old with alot of miles. I just happened to notice there's a variety in how they made them. The ABC buttons are always the same and perfect but some dpads have different feeling clicks than others. Some are tighter some looser.. It's nice being able to try them out at a used game store before buying.

I love the Saturn controller. Better dpad than Dreamcast. Perfect button set up for fighters. It's up there with the best that's forsure. Especially US model 2, which I think most of the world got. The 1st US model wasn't bad just different.

It's awful. A is to far away from C and the size and grip are not optimal. Talking 16 bit consoles, the Snes controller is just perfect.
@Lightblue2222
@Lightblue2222 4 года назад
A may be further from C, but A is much closer to B, and B closer to C. I tried Super HangOn with a Snes controller and it fealt awkward. With the Genesis pad, while pressing B the gas button, I just barely lean my thumb to C for nitro. For the Snes pad I position my thumb differently to hold both buttons at the same time since they are further apart. I love the Snes controller and use a replica for emulation. The buttons are evenly spaced, and the shoulder pads are a plus. As far as the buttons that are next to each other, the closer spacing on Genesis feels nice. The closer proximity almost makes up for A and C being further apart. Obviously this 3 button set up became outdated and they released the 6 button to compete with Snes, but that still kept the closer button set up. I love the 4 yellow C buttons on N64 that all fit under my thumb at once. Sony and most new controllers seem to keep the buttons spaced out like Snes. It's not an issue, just a preference. As far as Dpad. Snes is one of the best. It's 4 way instead of Sega's 8, and maybe a little smaller. but that never really mattered. Only preference.
@Lightblue2222
@Lightblue2222 4 года назад
Also.. I would say the size and grip are perfect for me. It's why I like it over the Sega 6 button and Snes that feel a little too small. But that's just if I'm being very picky.

Sega gave up on consoles since Nintendo was doing the same thing anyway
@Lightblue2222
@Lightblue2222 4 года назад
I would say Sony made the final blow to Sega more so than Nintendo. Sony beat Saturn with PS1 and they beat Dreamcast with PS2. As for the 16 bit era, yea Nintendo didn't lose I can say that much. They both put up a good long fight "in the States". As where Sony's later hits were knock out punches. Edit. For the 16 bit era Nintendo beat Sega in Japan for sure.. Sega beat Nintendo in Brazil. For the 32 bit era Sega Saturn beat Sony Playstation in Japan but lost in the States. So depends on regions. Double edit: Dreamcast did well beating everyone to the punch. It was the best thing available for a while so ppl were buying.. Soon as PS2 came out Dreamcast lost popularity. Graphically they are fairly simular, and had many games cross platforms. The DVD drive was such a slam dunk though.

@@Lightblue2222 makes me wonder what would a true Nintendo competition. (Obviously they still compete at a base level) but I mean what if all the SEGA games were on a dedicated console, what would a SEGA 2023 competing with Nintendo. I bet it could be a SEGA version of the Switch offering their own hybrid system. I mean for gamers they now have two power houses to chose from Xbox and PlayStation and then have a fun device that trades specs for portability and a great option for kids. Yes that would be divine! Unfortunately they took it as far as they could

I think my favourite is the Sega Saturn controller as it was great for the Capcom and SNK fighting games......unlike the Dreamcast controller.

Good choice. The 1st Saturn controller I tried was a US Model 1. It's really good but I like the US Model 2 even better, which I believe was the standard controller for the rest of the world.
@Lightblue2222
@Lightblue2222 4 года назад
I'm huge into MK3 and Trilogy, definetly best with a Sega 6 button or Saturn pad or even N64. PS1 / SNES force you to use shoulder buttons for run and block, and the thumb buttons are more spaced out instead of close. Same with DC. I don't mind those controllers but prefer 6 face buttons over 4 for fighters. Edit: Don't tell anybody but I can actually kick it in MK with the 3 button. X is just pressing A and B and Z is just B and C. And since the buttons are so big and close it doesn't feel too shabby. To bad it didnt work like that for Street Fighter.. Still tho I can't defend my 3 button for fighters

Have u ever tried the dull plastic dpad? It's a different make. The texture isn't what matters, but how it clicks. Better than the shiny glazed dpad model that tires my thumb. There's differences between the Sega 6 button pads too. Sega wasn't always consistent. Unlike Nintendo that'd make 1 great controller and stick with it. Nes and Snes are good. Saturn model 2 is good. N64 has a decent dpad as well, better than Dreamcast. GameCube dpad sucks, feels like a tight little thing barely meant to be pressed. Modern Dpads are nice just overly light to the touch. All just my opinion.

tarse m what allows you to decide what forms of entertainment are acceptable? I’m sick of the bs that is this argument that games aren’t worth time. Games are art, entertainment, and much more. I think if you think you are wasting time playing video games then maybe gaming isn’t for you....but please we all have one life get out of your comfort zone and stop acting like what YOU deem acceptable is what everyone deems acceptable.
