We recently featured professional triathlete Sam Laidlow on the podcast. He's beaten the GOAT Jan Frodeno out of the water. In this video I'll breakdown each part of Sam's stroke to show why he swims so fast.
Sam is trained by his Dad (Richard) who is a professional triathlon coach at sancture-sportifs.com/

I like your systematic look - and consistent with everything you said in your online course. Hearing the same analysis reinforces the course - thanks.

Incredibly helpful doing and staying to highlight and break down the technique.. Wish I'd seen this about 30 videos ago. Definitely going to check out the others

I must say I was very impressed by Jan’s swim today during the tribattle thing. Great head position and his stroke rate was crazy.

Please make sure to do some kind of stretching and/or strength training, when u can’t swim. I did the mistake to do not so and now have back pain. It’s important to compensate sitting all day long, swimming is quite perfect for that

I love your tutorials, but please don't fall for the trend of adding background music everywhere. It is just insufferable and I had to stop after 5 minutes in.

Such beautiful symmetrical V-shaped waves can only be generated by a swimmer who masters his craft. Amazing swimming! Thanks a bunch for the excellent analysis, Brenton ... as always ☺️

Best drill for keeping your sweep through with that 109 degree? Good call on the hand angle, most want to follow the curvature of their body...also sets up a good open recovery! Nice analysis!

Currently holding 1:40-1:45 free on my distance swims. You give so much info I feel like I just need to focus on one thing at a time to get to my goal 1:10-1:15 pace.

So i think i did watch an analysis on another video, i think. And now i do have a question. I always swallow water when i try to breathe with half my head in the water. Are there any tips/drills to get the bresthing technique in properly?
@kimweidner7351
@kimweidner7351 2 года назад
Lay the crown of your head down, your chin lifts up creating space for a scoop of air. As you focus on your overall body balance/alignment and your stroke technique, an opening trough of air will be created. Also, rotate a bit trying to keep one goggle in the water. Scoot your lips over like Popeye the Sailor Man and you’ll be surprised that there is clean air to inhale. At least that has been my experience, hope that helps.
@ButlersTraining

@@kimweidner7351 thank you! i will try. i do feel like whenever i scoot my lips i get some water into my mouth. but i'm probably too hectic because i think i'll get water in my mouth

Is their an ideal BMI for swimming? I tend to be pretty lean even at 170. My position in the water doesn’t feel off but I also never filmed myself.
@joeekaps5840

His head position is phenomenal. Every time I film myself I feel like my head position is like this guy, however it's tilting upwards and when I breathe my head is coming out of the water. How can I correct this problem?

@rg7035
@rg7035 2 года назад
How is 109 degrees in the pull the ideal position? In all your other videos you talk about the 'power diamond' shape which is a significantly different degree number (with the underarm and hand going under the body)
@guillaumebodin306
@guillaumebodin306 2 года назад
I always thought that too. I always had the image of crawling in the water as you'd do on the floor. We need clarification on that coach! :D!
@EffortlessSwimming
@EffortlessSwimming 2 года назад
When looking from the front we want 100-120° angle of the arm in the catch position. This what you see with elite freestylers. Some sprinters do go a bit deeper though arm can get to 130degrees
