I was in yachting world once for an acquaintances birthday. I had met him decades before during the China Sea Series in Hong Kong. It was a big night. Very big. The bar ran out of alcohol and was resupplied by truck twice before the whole of Port Vila ran out. The bar bill was something like $30,000. My memory blanks out around 10 that night....mercifully😮
I have to say as I used to service liferafts they should be testing using an Manometer and taking air temperature and doing the maths as air temperature changes pressure and is very important. Gas bottles need to weighed while not touching the back of the scales. Great video about what is in the raft...
Hey James thanks very good to know! We’ve not seen this before, have only seen using scales, but then we’re often doing this in more remote places, so that’s interesting to hear thanks 🙏😊
@@SailingNV thanks for the reply I did Sea safety as a job for five years and people ended up using the rafts I serviced on two occasions and as you say safety is so important. And the guy servicing the rafts needs to do their jobs by doing it as per the book. Keep up the great videos.
I’ve heard it said a few times that everyone on the life raft should be encouraged to urinate soon after boarding in an attempt to overcome inhibitions about peeing in public in an attempt to avoid retention cystitis or worse. Is this apocryphal or good advice ?
Interesting haven’t heard that before! I’d have thought you’d be too concerned about other things to worry too much about peeing in public so I wouldn’t worry too much about trying to do it asap
@@SailingNV I did a RYA survival at sea course some years ago and there was tacit agreement that there was some substance in the advice. I don’t know but there’s no smoke without fire !
@@SailingNV I don’t mean to go on about it too much but there is similar advice given in section 4 of the below: mariners.narod.ru/LBsurvivalManual.pdf
Awsome video , my feelings are every one that goes offshore should do this course, sea survival, The first thing it teaches you when you get 4 people in a life raft is , i dont ever want to use one in anger, looks fun in a lagoon , 😊
As a safe sailor most in this episode I already knew. Surely very useful for newbies. Then again I learned sth too. Socks for the dog. I hope the word will spread among organisations deal with safety at sea. So many people (like myself) sail with dogs, and cats, and they will not ditch the pets after grabbing the grabbag. Thnx Timo.
