The 2020 Thomas The Tank Hot Wheels hybrid Loco Motorin had a peg price of $1 in 2020. Two years later it has an online price that is exceeding $50. For me this Thomas & Friends diecast toy was near impossible to toy hunt in store. 2020 & 2021 were in no way normal years for many reasons, this had me visiting near empty retail shops when I was shopping for my 'essential Thomas goodies'. In the search that was very frustrating I did bump into many other dedicated Hot Wheels collectors. Some were not friendly, other were lovely. From my chats in the Hot Wheels area with the collectors I learned some valuable lessons in how to search for elusive Hot Wheels Gold. I could see in 2020 the Thomas Hot Wheels was already pulling a $15 to $20 online price. This price has basically trebled in another year. On some eBay sales if I add the cost of the Thomas Hot Wheels with the shipping fee the price is nudging $100.
Basically this little $1 Hot Wheels is a far better investment Vs Gold, Silver, Apple Shares, Tesla Shares, Bitcoin. What's stopping this Thomas The Tank Hot Wheels pulling a clean $80 within another year.
The Hot Wheels Metro Loco 'Motorin' is a casting depicting a motorized locomotive on wheels in a similar vein to the Rail Rodder, but smaller and more streamlined in size. The Face Print for this casting's first release is based off of Thomas the Tank Engine from Wilbert Awdry's The Railway Series book line for the 75th anniversary of the book series. It has a slot in the back for the Fisher-Price Push Along, Adventures, Trackmaster, Motorised style of Thomas the Tank Engine trains. It can also connect to any Matchbox or Hotwheels that used a 'clip connector'.

Casually collecting can be difficult, but when you do find those random gems, it’s really rewarding. On two separate occasions, I found some Matchbox cars that were 8 years old just sitting around at stores, either untouched or delivered years late. I’m glad you could find a Thomas Loco Motorin’! Too bad they didn’t do a Thomas Hot Wheels set!

Thank you for telling me this story, I lived in rural Australia at the time that Hot Wheel released and to this day I have NEVER seen it... I still look for it to this day and I live in the city now (6 months). I am happy you found it, I unfortunately still can't and I think I have missed all my chances in doing so now. What I did buy was the diamond Thomas which for some reason was everywhere at the time.

I have friends in a few country areas of Australia and I alerted them to this Hot Wheels but none were found, gets back to what the Hot Wheels hardcore collector said to me about getting away from the 'big' stores and look in smaller shops. But the problem is the hardcore collectors who sweep up everything seem to have unlimited time to get all the desirable Hot Wheels. And many of these HW collectors have store staff connections where the boxes are hunted through before they ever hit the shelves. I have seen how the boxes for restocking Hot Wheels come out from the back of store already opened mand messy. The same was going on when LEGO did the dumbass idea of Mr Gold. Once word got out this single minifigure was pulling multiple thousands of dollars online the stock is always going to get pulled apart before being put out. It's almost pointless for the toy companies to do anything that's 'special' or 'limited edition' because every time it triggers the wrong style of people who just vacuum up everything to then resell and really high prices online. This style of rogue collector activity totally destroys the idea of Toy Hunting for fun because anything that's special is often impossible to find.

I remember working at my summer job in a supermarket, I would always see lots of people looking through two big Hot Wheels boxes in the back corner of the store where the milk and other cold food were at. Depsite it being the summer it still felt freezing back there so I couldn't belive they would stand back there in the cold picking through the boxes just for a Hot Wheels toy.

I've noticed ever since the blasted LEGO Mr Gold that if anything is ever deemed special, rare, limited, in the toy realm the hardcore collectors have all the stock sewn up. The Hot Wheels community speak out loudly how pointless doing Treasure Hunts are now because of the way the 'sweepers' grab everything. The advent of skewing high prices on eBay where the site prefers to list the highest prices over the lowest is also connected to the problem. Back in 2020 when I saw the Thomas Hot Wheels pulling ten times the peg price instantly I knew it was going to be really difficult to find. Yet the hot Wheels collectors played dumb in relation to the peg price Vs online. The fact they were seeing this Hot Wheels said to me yeah, and I know who grabbed it. I was playing my cards close to my chest but i was up against expert players who had been playing this game far longer than me. This video took a LONG time to make. I know it's a total waste of time to do this now.

Ho Leo! I remember watching your original hunt for this, and doing a similar thing here in California out of curiosity! By pure luck I eventually found one in a local Safeway supermarket of all places. I happened to be there the day they had just restocked the display. Literally as I walked in ,I picked it up (the only one) and walked away. I returned a few minutes later and a guy way sifting through the cars and piling tons into his shopping trolley! He happened to look into my trolley and can I say, he gave me a look that was nothing but utter disgust with himself! 😂 anyway, Thomas is still sitting on a shelf downstairs, haven't sold him yet!

I remember trying to look for this car where I live and spent 3-5 months trying to find one before just going online and buying one $5 usd due to shipping. It is very interesting to see how these cars in particular are collected compare to many other collectibles and seeing what sells fast and which ones you see constantly in every store you go into. Even tho in the area of the US where I live many hot wheels singles aren’t that expensive in most retailers (roughly $1-2 or so for a single car) compared to the $5 I spent I was still happy to finally get one. Also honestly was still happy to have the experience of going with a friend of mine who knows I enjoy collecting these weird Thomas products and searching for this car in stores here and there

I only ever found a single Loco-Motorin' Thomas in the wild and he's hanging on my wall now. I've seen plenty of Loco-Motorin's in non-Thomas decos in the years since though, they were peg-sitters in NZ as well. I did buy some of them as well, the black and gold one looked pretty good.

They keep releasing the little weird wheelchair Hot Wheels, but no one buys it. And I have seen all the variations of Loco Motorin, the Gold and Silver version looked cool. I see that when Hot Wheels do metallic chrome cars they do sell ok, must be the dedicated chrome addicts getting into collecting them.

I remember back in 2020 I took your advice and picked up a few extra Thomas hot wheel cars and tucked them under the bed for a rainy day. If only I did the same when the Gold Take n Play Thomas was in stores.

Yep, in 2020 I said in a Thomas stoore study video to get this Thomas if you could and it was going to be pulling a much bigger price. I pulled the 2020 eBay prices from that video for this video. And it was buy that time in 2020 I had the whispers from the Hot Wheels collectors that something was going on. it's nice to see their idea of the Tokyo 2020 set of cars. The whole series pulls big coin on eBay now. Honestly I didn't understand that side to collecting Hot Wheels.

Yes! Locomotrin is a peg warmer but "Thomas The Tank or Engine" quickly sold out in 2020. Too bad I never knew Hot Wheels back then to pick up more than the one I found easily in a car dump bin in a large retail store. Owning only just one of these means I won't sell mine I keep hanging MIP with other oddity Hot Wheels. Other strange ones include a "Fast Foodie" series of cars Hot Dogs, Hamburger and Fries, Toaster, Snoopy on his Dog House fighting the Red Baron, etc quirky ones no longer we see today where I thought were going to be massed produced for children "fantasy castings!" It is better to try and hunt and flip licensed car company castings, especially muscle cars because the scalpers on my area buy them up and I go to eBay and see $12+ USD listings.

@@leokimvideo Oh I will! I collect hot wheels and where I live in America, there is a hot wheels club and each year they have 2 large shows where hundreds of thousands of cars are displayed/sold/raced. one of the shows was this weekend, and I saw only about 3 of those thomas cars there.

I can’t see an out of scale wheelchair being very popular with kids. I understand it’s to celebrate the accomplishments of a disabled athlete but if I was a kid, I’d probably leave it in the bin whenever playing. Granted I’ve never been a huge hot wheels kid so who knows.

hot wheels collectors are mostly scalpers! highly sought hotwheels are the JAPANESE cars or JDM they call it, also the chase hotwheels; the treasure hunt (t-hunt), it can be regular t-hunt (basic), or super t-hunt (rubber tires and special paint), if you are in to collecting hot wheels, then you have to know when the store re-stock or new hotwheels shipment arrives, its all about making friends with the staffs, good luck!

You clearly got really unlucky with this one, I live in the UK & I found this casting as soon as the case came out but then again I've been a full-time collector for the best part of six years and the area where I live is very out of the way. Casually collecting alongside the professionals is sadly a loosing battle, we'll always get their first & have a list of what we're after.

Leo just wanna point out I live in Australia Queensland I've seen your comment on Max Monty's Edward review to they are now hitting the stores the 2022 wooden railway line I've seen all the engine at Mr Toys Toyland the models go from $20-$30 where I live they are really nice models I think you should get it if its in your area its a pretty good deal other than the price. Thomas was honestly really easy to find here, only because I live in a middle of nowhere town with no hot wheels collectors that I managed to find two of them Loco Motorin cars in the hot wheels bucket, had o me to use and another to keep in box but ended up flicking it for a tenner or something on eBay. I planned to buy every variation of the car over the past few years it's been out but lost interest after the first one lol

From what I see the people who were flicking this Thomas Hot Wheels last year for $15 have lost out. If they held on for a few years they could make hundreds. Anything is possible when Thomas The Tank is sold by a greedy eBay seller.
