I'm delighted you liked Thorgal Dan, and your analysis is very good. Thorgal is also getting better and better with time and if it is translated yet, I encourage you to read album # 9, "Les Archers" in French, it's a masterpiece that stands by itself. I also want to add that Van Hamme is an amazing writer and his other famous series, XIII, is also an amazing 20 volumes arc. If you like spy, CIA, conspiracy and stuff, it's the best of its kind.

Thorgal is incredible. I think most volumes are now in English too. I notice in the UK versions, they state that some of the content of the reprints with the permission of the author have been changed for sensitive viewers. Maybe they were more explicit with violence in the past? The archers is a fun story where he meets Treefoot and his frenemy Kriss of Valnor. And a new story in Volume 5 and 6 has him forced to go to Myaxatal (Aztec lands) where he goes to confront warring and mysterious Gods and his past.

Hey, Dan. Nice seeing you trying new format, I forgot to mention it in previous video. 1) To be honest I wasn't into ranting format until I started watching YBZ. I thought that when they read the text it is normal... Until I realised that they always do it in a very boring and 'dead' way or trying to sound like voice actors (cringy). So, if you are not voice actor, reafing text is not a best option. But keeping the main points in your head and just talking about them without going somewhere else - which we all do in casual conversations - this is the way. I learned it watching Comic Fan Nicolas - he also has a small channel, just like you. He also did two good videos about our boi Cyclops, about his good ol' days. You can check 'em out to see if you want to do videos in this format. And support the guy, lol. 2) You need to do something about these black borders. As far as I'm concerned you just pasted the pictures to video editor and they were adjusted to fit by height. Don't know how to help here, I don't know anything about video editing and I only made some cringy video memes to show my friends. To see how the big boys do it you can watch Matt Draper (cool editing, but boring reading and obvious things... At least for me) or Strange Brain Parts (another hipster who reads the text, but his videos are more interesting... And no one knows about his channel. Bruh.) 3) To be honest, I don't really get the part about drawing panels from comics. You want to learn to draw better, yeah. But when you draw these panels you do them in kinda your own way. Is it intended? Because I was reading Jim Shooter's storytelling lecture and he was talking about that many artists, despite knowing a lot about how figures work and all that stuff, don't use their eyes while drawing something. They can copy the main figure but then spoil every little parts. And I see the same story here. Unless you intended this. P.S. Really long comment, yeah. If I said something that you didn't understand, ask me again, I will sit for a long time thinking how to express my points in a more clear way. English is not my first language and I'm lying in my dark room now, it's night and I'm typing in on my phone. Hate typing these long comments using my phone. At least on yt. Thanks for the video.

Thanks for the comment and feedback Eve! 1.) Using a script saves on editing which is why I tried it for the last few videos, Justsomeguy does this to make the video cleaner. It does kind of take away the emotion from the video, I will try experimenting with writing down major points and talking off script to see if works better. 2.) Im experimenting with different effects in video editing to see what looks best at conveying the book I'm reviewing. I'll considering getting rid of the black background. 3.) The drawing part is more personal and something that bugged me about other RU-vid comic review channels. I'm not a talented artist and if I can draw the panel easily then it says something about the art. What I'm practicing is just pencil/ink mechanics and drawing what I see. I think it adds a little something unique to the review compared to other review channels but, maybe I need to consider how I deliver it. Thanks again I'll try to better on the next one.
@eveahn9595
@eveahn9595 4 года назад
@@UnqualifiedComics you are welcome. Yeah, the part about drawing the panel from reviewed comic is original and I like it. And I don't really think that the art which you managed to copy easily is bad, it just was done this way, without polishing every single detail. These guys just have more experience, duh. But so will you. :)

@Eve Ahn I figured out what happened with the black background. For whatever reason my video editor changed the resolution on me while I was compiling. It's actually supposed to be in 1080p but the edges got cut. There is still a black background in the original vid but the clip of the images doesnt' occur. Damn, oh well, next time.

I remember reading "Thorgal: The Archers" in a bundle with a variety of comics. I really liked the artwork and the tone of the story. My interest was sparked and was happy to find some other Thorgal books at the local library. I find Thorgal a very likable protagonist. He seems a modest guy who just wants to live happily with his wife and children but finds himself in al sorts of struggles and adventures. I was intrigued with how dark the stories sometimes get but thorgal's presence and attitude provides hope. I also like how some stories are realistic, some have mystical elements or are downright fantastical.

Something I heard from a student, who was studying Chinese: it's pronounced 'Tan Tan', not 'Tin Tin'. According to her, the main reason to avoid that confusion is that 'tin tin' os homophonous to the name of the male reproductive organ in Chinese. And that is something I've learned. XD
