I always introduce lolita as neo-rococo to avoid saying the L word to Madam Karen. Some people are not worth your time, and it's no one's job to explain anything to anyone.
@@solarstar7509 yeah, kind of easy on second thought. I usually get a handful of comments with undertones from both men and women in their 30s-40s or from 12 year old who think they are cool and shit
It would be cool to see more history-related lolita fashion content. I would love to see maybe some coords inspired by certain fashion eras or talking a bit more about how lolita fashion reflects historical fashions. No pressure, I just think it would be neat
Agreed! I’ve seen some coords that are very Rococo inspired but also some Edwardian inspired coords could be cool! Maybe exploring Lolitas influence outside the often referenced Victorian.
I'd love to see Lor cover this as well! And if y'all are interested in content about sustainable fashion from a Lolita and Kawaii-fashion wearing and fast-fashion free RU-vidr, you should check out The Stitchess! She has a lot of really great content covering alternative fashion and sustainability in general and though she hasn't necessarily made a video on lolita specifically w/r/t sustainability, lots of her videos touch on that subject and other related topics _and_ she has some fabulous videos of making lolita and adjacent style dresses (and accessories!) out of thrifted and recycled materials!
Yeah I feel like lolita in some ways is naturally.more sustainable because we are buying usually higher quality more expensive peices and have a strong second hand and trading market but we also have cheaper taobao stuff
@@Tenareful In some ways yes I definitely agree, the second hand market is good and dresses are worn for many years but I personally feel very iffy about taobao brands. Just the amount of work that goes into sewing taobao dresses doesn't really match up with the prices they're being sold at so I personally feel the workers making the cloths probably aren't given very good remuneration or work life balance. Just a viewpoint from someone who makes their own clothing, and yes I know the scale of a factory and manufacture is different but I always wonder what the conditions are like for the workers
Actually check out this little animation called Death Buy Lemonade. It's really cute. m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZaKxLJLj19E.html
I've seen punk lolita get called ita before by people who only associate lolita with blouses and a pretty jsk. I think you should make a video about punk lolita to educate the community more
I’m almost been wearing lolita for 2 years now, and I had a mini meltdown this morning thinking about how i’m not as “good” or have as much brand as others. This really made me feel grounded. You really can get too obsessed with lolita 😂😂 hope you’re doing well Lor!
I really enjoyed this chitchat style video today. I’ve had an awful week and this was just a nice, chill break from my life for 20 minutes. I’ve struggled to find my “place” in the online lolita community, but am so eager for the pandemic to be over so I can try getting involved with a local community - or even to travel to events to try to connect with other lolitas.
Omg I love how you mentioned punk lolita! I've been getting into it mostly because of the j-pop/ baby metal idol aesthetic, but also since lolita started as a counter movement, it seems almost natural that punk would be a sub style since it has it's own history of being against the conservative ideology. And it balances the two opposite aesthetics.
I've never worn Lolita fashion but I've been watching your channel for like a year now and thinking about how cool it would be to try but never really going for it. But now that I know that PUNK LOLITA is a thing I'm so inspired to start working on a coord!!!
I love punk lolita so much! It's so much fun because I can combine two fashion styles I've admired for so long and not feel pigeon held to one. I think punk is also one of those substyles that has more of a casual feel. Whenever I get more of a wardrobe I want to make punk lolita content. Thanks for the encouraging words Lovely Lor, you're too nice!
I loved your first section about "your favorite brand" because I feel the same way! I definitely have more AP than any other brand, but I realized recently that a lot of my favorite pieces are actually from indie designers (and my AP dresses tend to rank somewhere in the middle)! In fact, I have a favorite indie brand that I hope continues to thrive during the pandemic, and I want to keep supporting them as they make more beautiful, interesting pieces :)
The first question really felt relatable to me as someone who loves makeup. When I first got into it in high school, all I really knew about and sought after were mainstream brands sold at Sephora and talked about by RU-vidrs with millions of followers. Now that I’ve grown my collection a bit, basically all I am interested in is indie brands and small RU-vidrs who also enjoy indie brands. I feel so much more excited to not only purchase makeup, but also know that I’m helping small business owners when I do.
So this is going to sound odd but I'm currently working on 4 different coordinates that are based on MCR albums - and two of them are gonna be in punk style and the other two are gonna be in gothic. I'm combining two of my favorite things - lolita and MCR! It's mostly an excuse to experiment with punk lolita. 🖤❤️
It always upsets me when people say u have to act a certain way if ur into Lolita fashion so many of my SW friends don’t want to wear the fashion only cause their worried about the backlash the community will have because of their jobs so I’m glad u have the opinion that it’s just clothes and let people vibe
I love the idea of doing a kinda update video like this on the fashion. Thank you for sharing so many other lolita RU-vidrs! There were some new ones you showed that I never heard of so I know what I'm doing the rest of the day 😍
These prompts are awesome! I haven't thought to revisit some of the older ones; what a great idea! I'll definitely do these ♡ It was wonderful to hear your answers! Thanks so much for highlighting some of your favorite creators ; x ; ♡ The more content the better! Also, if there was a co-working space for Lolitas I'd relocate in a heartbeat! It sounds amazing!
Hey! I'm on lolita reddit, and it's awfully small, but very supportive! It's good if you want to ask questions or advice, but there aren't a lot of users so there aren't a lot of answers...
It honestly feels weird being an emo/alternative watching this- Also- I’m a new sub to this channel and I was wondering if you could react to classic emo/goth/alternative fashion
I think my thoughts about the fashion have changed a bit over time as well, like my favorite brand. Mine was also Angelic Pretty but some of their recent releases aren't my cup of tea (and some of their polyester pieces don't seem like they're the best quality) have made me start looking at other brands and I'm starting to love those a lot more
This is super helpful to me as someone who was in Lolita since 2005 but my time wearing it waxes and wanes over the years. I don't need to be super active and always chasing the latest prints! I can just enjoy these pieces I still have and love. 😊💜👗
Hi Lor! I recently just got my first lolita items and I love them so much! But sadly, I messed up the order.X'D I was trying to buy a skirt and a blouse to go with it, but I ended up not buying the blouse by accident and ended up buying just the accessory instead. It sucks, but at least the person who helped me out with my order was really nice.
This has happened to both me and Holly before! Once she thought she ordered a blouse but it was just a collar hahaha and once I ordered what I thought was an OP and it was just a skirt ! Do not worry we all make mistakes haha I hope it doesn't discourage you and that you are able to have a more successful order !
I'm glad you're finding more representation out there! Funny enough, one of the last meetups I went to irl, everyone there was either bi or a lesbian! Apparently, my comm is VERY sapphic so I feel like lolita has really come to be associated with that in my mind? It just feels very gay to me now lol
Lor I just wanted to let you know that you're a wonderful person, your videos make my day better, I loved this tag, and I hope that you and Holly have a great day! You are both so inspirational and wonderful! I can't wait until the next 2 videos!
Omg! I'm just getting around to watching this video! thank you for the shoutout, and aslooooo that dream of a lolita content community sounds soooooooooo nice!
Loved watching this vid! Also, because I'm in love with my city... if you ever come to Montreal with that Lolita content studio idea... please reach out LOL. It sounds like such a dream!
Honestly the urge to come back to making RU-vid videos has been strong. It's nice to hear someone say it's okay to come back after a prolonged absence!
Lucky Charm earrings!! Love!! Thank you for doing this, the more I watch your channel the more I adore lolita and learn about it. My style is just too all over the place to commit.
the part where you talk about your visual processing disorder and how it affected your relationship to lolita communities is very interesting (i don't mean to treat this like a study because it affects real people, such as yourself, so i'm really sorry if the way i word things makes it feel impersonal, english also isn't my first language) we don't really think about these things but the increase in video media is such a life saver for many people, clearly the lack of video or even audio resources can make it nearly impossible for a huge chunk of the population to engage in their hobbies and passions i actually hadn't really even thought of it that way for myself, i haven't been diagnosed with any reading related disorders but i'm neurodivergent and i'm pretty sure i have never read an entire book front to back because it is such a huge struggle for me (even for small leisure things such as reading fanfiction, it's a huge mental effort) i always feel a bit ashamed when people ask what i do in my free time because i reply that i watch a lot of youtube, but now that i've heard you talk about your relationship to video media i can kind of apply it to me ! i watch a lot of video essays and videos like yours that talk about things i'm passionate about so i can learn and be entertained ; i shouldn't feel ashamed about the fact that it's through videos instead of reading (reading is often considered more academic and serious, even if it's not actual books)
Lolita Reddit is actually not bad at all! There’s 2 subreddits and I highly recommend them. I’ve heard from a person online that they aren’t that good but I enjoy them. Reddit I’ve noticed is less toxic in smaller communities and fandoms and while the lolita subreddits can have issues time to time it’s overall really nice
Right?! She has put so much thought and effort and work into this colleciton! She's posted updates along her brand's ig story and it's been so neat to see!
as a fellow youtuber myself, i havent uploaded much lolita content since giving birth to my son and not having much time to create more videos, but watching this has made me feel confident that someday i can return to youtube and make more videos :D
Obviously, you don't have to check it out if you don't want to, but r/Lolita is actually pretty nice! It's mostly just people sharing their coords and the wiki of the community has a ton of resources for beginners and finding local communities. The mods definitely work to keep toxicity out of the subreddit, which is great imo
Would cute otk fuzzy socks be acceptable to wear with a winter coord? Just fleece tights may not be warm enough if I'm going out. I saw an adorable set of long fluffy animal socks on Amazon and they would look adorable with a skirt I'm getting. (Detective Bear Strap SK by To Alice!)
uhm, it kinda feels like the question i have is not really video related but~ if i order something from devilinspired and say i know them from youtube and your channel introduced me to them, is this a direct support to you? because i purchased my first lolita pieces a few days ago and was wondering^^
when you talked about having blinders to when people are staring or trying to ask you questions i remembered that time my sister tried to ask someone in lolita where they got their dress because it was one i liked but they just kept walking and didn't answer. i'm now faced with the possibility that that could have been you and she didn't know 😱
random question: would you guys consider babymetal's aesthetic to be punk lolita? I always thought they seemed at least lolita inspired so I'm really curious
Would you be able to do a video on guys being able to wearing Lolita. I feel not enough is talked about on the subject. And what’s you’re thought on the subject
My question actually has to do with your dyslexia. Is your business email still the best way to get ahold of you then? I emailed you about a possible collaboration. (not sure if that is the right word. I don't think that's the word I used) But I understand how your processing disorder would make it difficult to get back to my email. My second thing is a comment, I'm really new to the lolita community and it's mostly been your youtube channel that has guided me to everything. I am so grateful for you!
Thanks for the talk on doing loluta on RU-vid! It's been itching me to make creative projects and maybe I could try that, even though I know nothing about video making... could be fun!
SO CLOSE !! My Dad said when I reach it he's going to sponsor a fancy dinner for me haha even if restaurants here are closed I can get some fancy delivery haha
One of the girls from my comm has a youtube channel! This is her latest video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tG-060o2NB4.html I'm considering starting one, but I have no idea what kind of content I would make, and there seems to be some beef between the lolita and larp communities and it's kinda awkward being in both...
