Seen AP petticoats at AP Paris, not worth the price at all imo, they are bad petticoats and my conspiracy theory is they don't use them on model photos 😂

Honestly Atelier Pierrot mixed with some Moi Meme Moitie and darker Alice and the Pirates and Victorian Maiden for big brands inspiration. Collectiff London retro clothing brand also has some pretty dark pieces, though I recommend to shop in sales for better prices.

I wore lolita for my wedding! I wore romantic rose letter and ordered a custom veil made to match it. The pictures turned out amazing. Idk what the asker is unsure of, but there's no reason not to. If you feel pressured to wear all white, remember that tradition was invented in the Victorian era and you don't have to be beholden to it.

Hi, I did mary in lolita. I used a white OP, relatively simple. But what did really make it bride look, was a good veil and a fancy corset, both were rented from a store specialized in bride dresses. So, the advice I give is this: pay attention to the details: accessories, bouquet, hair and makeup. Those are the things that change from "simple" lolita look to bride lolita.
@Slithera
@Slithera 2 года назад
For the headbow question (12:05), like Lor said it depends on what the problem is, but if for example your natural hair doesn't have a lot of volume and your big bows look off with it, try putting two small sections of hair in high pigtails and then wear the headbow. That makes your hair look a lot more voluminous and creates balance, so your headbow doesn't look out of place.
@ea5145
@ea5145 2 года назад
You could also buy 2 clip-in ponytails that match your hair and make them be pigtails. Or I've also used one long clip-in ponytail and wrapped it into a big updo (that can work with a bow but also works nicely for a rectangle headpiece in my experience)
@ladylibrum7145
@ladylibrum7145 2 года назад
I understand about the headbow "weirdness". For me, perhaps, it's a problem with getting the proportion right. I feel like a bow makes my head like a big ole melon. But they're so quintessentially "lolita" I want to actually wear one some day. Update: I made two large headbows for two different coords, and following Slithera's advice, was very pleased with the effect! Thanks for pushing me out of my comfort zone to try something new!
@Slithera
@Slithera 2 года назад
@@ladylibrum7145 Oh absolutely, head-eating bows are the most "iconic" kind in the fashion but they can be difficult to pull off. Thankfully there are also bows that are made of ribbon and lay flat on your head, or side bows, or even hair clips or combs; so if you try a giant head-eating bow and it doesn't work for you, you have plenty of other options ^^
@ladylibrum7145
@ladylibrum7145 2 года назад
@@SlitheraHaha, the head-eating bow is definitely not for me. I did finally make one that lay flat on my head, and it looked cute, but sadly I tore it apart... Can't remember why, either. I was probably messing with it too much trying to get it "perfect" 😐
@ea5145
@ea5145 2 года назад
@@ladylibrum7145 I definitely trust your assessment of what u like/don't like but I'm just curious... It feels like a big bow would make the head look smaller, not bigger? I own an AP petticoat, it's the organdy panier one and it's pretty good! (Bought at AP Paris in 2018) When you model for AP, you have to bring your own shoes and petticoat. The shoes absolutely have to be AP but the petticoat could be any good petti, even a hoopskirt if I remember correctly. They have released a few different petticoats this past year but they sold out very quickly. The pink colourway is always gone very fast!
@flamebloom4659
@flamebloom4659 2 года назад
In regards to the headbow: it is a rather big headpiece, so I actually get you. it can look unbalanced if you don't have bangs. Make sure to sit it far back enough on your head to create a space of hair between your face and the bow. It can also help to balance it out with smaller bows and hair accessories on the sides, or haie styled in pig tails or space buns.

Thank you for this video! Yes, I agree with the dissatisfaction with the coords of all the matching pieces from a release. To me that looks like you are wearing the Lolita version of Geranimals. Personally, I enjoy seeing how people can take a well known print and make it completely their own. You can have several people at the same event in the same print and look completely different.

Have you heard of ouji? Idk if you've heard of it, you might've, but if you havent you could look at that? It's like lolita with similar aesthetics but with more masculine clothing, like shorts/pants in place of the skirt.
@princetisane
@princetisane 2 года назад
I hope you don't mind me answering, but you might consider ouji lolita foundational pieces that you can then wear general lolita shirts/accessories with? That way you can enjoy any favourite bits while using shorts/breeches/trousers and a vest and/or jacket instead of the typical skirt or dress. I've found it can be a liiiittle harder to source pieces for ouji, since it's more niche (especially in diverse sizes) but more and more places are popping up that have options for it. I've also seen at least one lolita who took their brand skirts to a seamstress to turn into ouji shorts when they decided they wanted to keep the prints but wear them in a new/more comfortable way, so if you know someone that can do that kind of modification and don't mind doing a trial run on a less expensive piece from DevilInspired, that could be an easier way to match any favourite colourways or a friend you want to borderline-twin with.

The worst is when sellers take apart dresses, like removing bows and things to sell them separately at an upcharge. I’ve even seen them remove things that weren’t made to be removed for an alternate/different look. For instance, clipping the bows off an Op or jsk and repackaging them separately.

If your partner doesn’t want you to wear lolita yo your wedding, maybe ask why? And it depends how important it is to you and to them. I had always dreamed of a handfasting in the woods in a red dress. When I got married it was in a white dress in a Catholic church because it was incredibly important to my partner and his family. Afterwards, we went and took photos in a beautiful garden and ate cake and played board games, so in the end it was perfect for both of us! Your wedding is, after all, the beginning of a lifetime together (hopefully), and is an excellent way to practice the art of comprise and a good way to judge and practice how you will work together!

As for the AP petticoat part: I have modeled for AP before and they offer their own petticoats but ask you to bring your own if you can except for the special line, like these super ott dresses (haute couture/premium line) for these you get a hoop skirt from them Funny enough I ACTUALLY own an AP petticoat and brought it when I was a model. after the fashion show when we switched into our own Teaparty coords a shopgirl searched for me and asked me if I took THEIR petticoat when it was actually my own. 15:26 I’d say the closer it is too lolita the easier styling it in a lolita way would be. Do you have any specific design elements/features that you either really like or actively avoid in your pieces that is unrelated to the prints? For example, I tend to avoid buying button-up blouses with bust shirring specifically because i find that it will sooner stretch the button area instead of the shirring. Waist shirring is fine, and if it's not a buttonup, it's fine (thank you sentaro). I also tend to prefer pieces without zippers and/or pieces with pockets (though I think everyone wants pockets lol)

The matching set thing, I get both sides. There's a few dresses I've ordered where I absolutely have ordered the whole set of what is available, but generally speaking, I mostly just make sure I have a matching headpiece if at all possible and go from there. I don't really have a lot of brand pieces though (two dresses, possibly a third if I win this one tomorrow on LM), most of my items are indie brands or Taobao. The sets I've bought have been mostly for rococo or wa lolita where it's a bit harder to coordinate since the rest of my lolita wardrobe is sweet. XD I do plan to start making my own accessories this summer though to round out my options. ^^

I totally agree!! I have a sax bodyline one because it was cheaper than the white since it was on sale!! most of my wardrobe is bittersweet, so the petticoat doesn't really show through!! however, I do have an ivory dress that is a bit more chiffon, so the blue pops and I can't wear that one with it

I suppose because we like the colour. "Normie" underwear isn't meant to be seen, meaning day to day not bedroom stuff. Yet you've got tons of different colours and even different patterns. Sometimes it is nice to have a different colour of something. And sometimes having colour to differentiate what petticoat is good for what is also helpful, ie the black one is a MLT that has extreme poof, the white is your "average" wear, and then you've got a blue/sax with min poof for casual stuff.

i have seen PLENTY of fantastic punk coords that incorporate punk band t-shirts or leather jackets in lieu of a blouse - as long as you maintain the style with the silhouette and matching accessories (detachable peter pan collars are awesome for this) then it's a fantastic way to honor both punk and lolita fashion!
@betchpng4958
@betchpng4958 2 года назад
I feel like punk Lolita is one of the most experimental and cool subcategories of EGL, I'd say you don't have to wear a blouse! If it's hot, it's hot. It's just important to maintain a balanced look, if you're not adding a blouse/top, add some more neckwear! Maybe avoid tights, add a parasol, put your hair up, etc! There's also the possibility that you're not adding a blouse to be experimental, and in that case I'd recommend detachable sleeves or some sort of arm decoration since it's doable in this case, like arm warmers. While lolita fashion does have "rules," it's important to look at the "why" of them. A blouse is highly recommended for balance, but if it's not doable that day or you can make a balanced coord without one, go crazy!:] Happy coordinating

I have two questions. What are the best Indie brands for larger set lolitas. I'm interested in the fashion but I have an issue with getting tops that fit me or dresses that sit correctly on my form. The second is how can I wear clips in my natural hair which is very curly. Alligator clips get stuck and and up ripping out my hair or damaging the clip do to me pulling them out. I really would love to decorate my hair with Clips as opposed to bows and bonnets but I don't want to damage my pieces

Some indie brands that I like for various sizes are Dollbe, Lady Sloth, Chocolate bunny store, le carrousel, sleepyland shop, Violet fane, sweet mildred, glittertale...there's probably a few more that I'm forgetting, but these brands have a wide range of sizing or custom sizing. For the alligator clips, I have often ripped them off and replaced them with a bobby pin for some of the bows I have, or I use the regular snap clips that you can get from dollar tree and just glue them on to the bow/accessory you're using.

I've seen quite a few pairs of shoes that I really really wanted but there was no options for extended sizing. :( I've gotten lucky and found a few pairs in various styles on DI, but most of my shoes are from western brands such as American Duchess, whom don't make strictly Lolita-based fashion style footwear but they blend in with the style nicely.

The ones I currently wear the most are Classical Puppets (sometimes layered with a cheapo one from amazon) but I've been eyeing melikestea for a while now. (I wore my Girly Sticker cutsew OP on the plane/to the store, and I thought I'd buy Galaxy Cocktail, but in person I didn't like it as much, and I ended up buying Emily Temple Cute's cassette tape print in the jsk, which fits me perfectly and which I wanted when it first was available for reserve! My wardrobe is not huge. But I love and *still wear* everything in it. Re: lolita in non-lolita outfits: when I first started buying brand, this was how I justified the expense for some items: "I can wear this in non-lolita outfits." I have an Innocent World long jsk that looks borderline-normie fancy when worn without a a blouse or petticoat. I have worn it to *multiple* friends' weddings and to go dancing. I get a billion compliments and it's COMFY because it's two layers of light tightly-woven chiffon. If you like sweet, cutsew OP's are great for non-lolita outfits. The Girly Sticker one looks like a nightgown with a hood, honestly; but I also have a solid lavender one that I wore to CHURCH on EASTER. OH ALSO I love the MyViolet sheer blouse you've got on here! I have one in lavender and I literally wore it under Sugary Carnival yesterday lol

I'm curious, when shopping for makeup are you also drawn to brands that try to appeal to Lolita Fashion and other adjacent styles with their packaging and marketing? Flower Knows, for example, has a Circus Collection and a Teddy Collection. Would your interest extend to something like that or is it just when looking at the clothes and accessories?

7:47 on the makeup thing, from my own personal experience I would avoid wearing wigs if you have 0 makeup on just cuz it can kinda… erase your face?? Idk how to explain it but in my experience a lot of wigs kinda need makeup to be worn with them otherwise it just looks really off but really any amount of makeup will make it work. If you don’t wear wigs idk why it would be a problem cuz clothes don’t usually do that

What is the reason lolita's wear bloomers? They were used as undergarments historically, so how has that changed over time?

As this is all about questions, I'd like to ask one myself 👉👈 Is there any places where I can get fairly cheap plus sized Lolita? I have a couple of dresses now, but none of the shirts I have fit, nor do many of my accessories (fancy socks are elasticated too small, headbands seem to be too small, I don't even wanna try with wristcuffs atm) so I was wondering if I could have some recommendations. Even with my dresses, only one of them fit me at the moment, so I'd really like some recommendations! I don't usually comment so aa sorry if I come across as awkward or rambley

My best blouse is a meta blouse that i got from closet child. It is not a plus size blouse originally. I removed the back shirring and opened the tucks on the front starting just below the dress line. Releasing the tucks gave me an additional 3 inches in the front alone. And bonus the blouse had minor neck stains on the collar that i was able to get out so the blouse was only $30. I would suggest looking at resell sites like glitzywonderlad and devilinspird to find out what dresses are able to be customized or come in plus size then use a taobao shopping service to buy them directly as that will save you a lot. Also the Facebook page chinese and lolita updates is really good about posting sizing information on the dresses they post, however i would still use a different shopping service to order because they charge a 30% fee which can add up very quickly. I know it is less specific than you were hoping but i hope it helps.

plus size lolita here! custom sized blouses have saved my life, consider le carrousel or anna house, they both do custom sized blouses under $50

is there a website, brand, and/or store you'd recommend for people who are plus size? I can fit into an American or European large size but I can't fit into most if not all Asian large sizes so it makes it really hard to find pieces that I like.

I really felt that comment on how boring full-set coordinates are. There is nothing wrong with doing it, but there is virtually 0 creativity in it. I follow fellow lolitas when I enjoy their fashion sense, not depending on how big their wallet is when it comes to buying every full set AP releases...

XD I think if I could redo my wedding... and I could find a Lolita dress for it that was one of those longer rococo style dresses, I could see wearing that as the bride to my wedding... if you're not having your family wedding in the south in the hottest month in summer while 11 weeks pregnant like I was anyway... with the only bridesmaid being your 7 month pregnant sister in law. lol And I don't do makeup period, no one's batted an eye over it. Lolita or no. My skin is good and I'd like to keep it that way (I have enough skin issues as is), plus my eyesight is so bad I'd need a large 20x mirror to even try to do it... so nope. Not worth it to me. I'm good. ^^

I wanted to wear lolita for my wedding, but no one (wife, parents, sister, etc) was on board with it, so we compromised with a tea-length retro dress which worked perfectly with our theme. My wife wouldn't have been against it for the wedding but she wanted a big giant floor-length dress. XD

You are. At what point would you else consider yourself a lolita? If your entire closet is full? If you never wear anything BUT lolita (not feasible for most people). One outfit definitely makes you a lolita. Even if you don't have as many accessories as you would like to slam onto it. You can always buy more. Would someone who has one cos play outfit so far, but is looking at getting more not be a cosplayer?
