Hey All! I just want to make sure I'm clear here as I have been using the wheel more. For someone looking to buy a new wheel and get into sim racing, the T598 will be 100% my recommendation. What you get for the price beats anything else near it for console at $500 usd. With the T-GT II being $800 usd for the complete set, the T598 is definitely the better buy here. For those who already own the T-GT II, that wheel holds its own. It's strong, it offers good detail and has the transducer, which works great in GT7. The two wheels feel completely different from each other. The T598 is smoother with finer details, while the T-GT II offers a stronger feeling to the wheel. The T598 takes a little getting used to coming from a T-GT II. If you want direct drive, I don't think you will be disappointed with the T598, and it also won't break the bank. If you are happy with your T-GT II, I don't think you need to rush out and buy the T598. Your first thought might be it feels a little weak but you need to give it some time to adapt to the different feeling. It's just my opinion and I don't claim to be right or wrong. I respect what everyone else says here as well! Also want to add, while the wheel rim is made of a lot of plastic, it actually feels good in hand when racing, and the size is just right too.
Hey great review , i am fully in the TM eco system and have been using the TGT2 for a couple of years now but was ready to just jump right in on the 598 but i think i will wait for now until it is available as a base only as i have the EVO32r which is a nice wheel i might add (nowhere near the flex that is being "reported in some reviews), the new pedals look a lot better than the TCLM but again i will hold off until the load cell is an option on those. Good to see an honest and fair review and also someone who is using the TM stuff ..nice one and a new sub here😎
Thanks for the review. I have a TGT-2 and I was looking for a review with a direct comparison with the T598 and the TGT-2. I think I'll wait to see if Thrustmaster brings out a Pro version with more torque.
@@thecasualracinggamer 8nm isnt part of the conversation at 500 with "direct axle", pedals and wheel though. Also more nm is not necessarily more real or always better.
@SrJonAnthony I was not saying at $500. I was saying as an upgradeable boost kit for those who want more power. And yes, an 8nm wheelbase of the same exact wheelbase will be better.
Great review, i was considering this as a potential upgrade from the TGT-2 but as i'm really happy with it ill stick with it. Think ill put some money into getting that EVO wheel instead.
@@paulv5733 Same here im gonna stay on TGT2 it does everything it needs! Gonna safe the money and in the Future maybe theres more DD's for console but its really not worth in my opinion if you already own a TGT2 hands down best belt driven wheel out there! If you own a diffrent belt wheel then i would upgrade a 100%
The moment I heard TM announced this wheel I knew I am going to buy it. DD wheels for PS are so hard to acquire where I live. Fanatec does not sell here, Logitech G Pro is too expensive, Moza is PC only, and the next closest and readily available wheel for PS here is T-GT II and that is also expensive.
For years I used a T300RS and quite liked it - until I started getting really bad FFB fade on longer sessions. The wheel base would overheat and the belt drive system would basically give up. I upgraded to the Fanatec GT DD Pro (5 NM) bundle, and immediately noticed the same "lightness" you described when going from the T-GT II to the T598. It seems that the lack of gears/belt/mechanical junk on the shaft of a DD wheel gives it an entirely different texture that can take some serious getting used to. I found that by tweaking settings in GT7 and ACC I was able to find a find a happy medium on the DD that allowed me to simulate weight transfer and tire load like I used to feel on the T300RS.
Exactly. I think the T-GT II has such a tight feeling where you really feel the weight of the car, and the T598 just felt so different. I'm getting used to it, though.
@@Two49 the 598 feels like it's constantly stuck in the ffb fade mode. I could not be more dissatisfied either thr 598 right now. I will be hooking my t300 back up tomorrow
Would love to hear a review of yours on this but with ACC rather than GT as ACC has much better FFB or even the original AC which has the best FBB ever!
@@flaw3dgenius222 but are those as good on console as they are on pc? I wouldnt be surprised if theyre weaker on console and gt7 outshines them. Though i could definitely be wrong
So far loving the T598. Yesterday did the daily race 3 and while doing laps did better than controller. I had a T248 which tbh lacked smoothness. I preferred the T150 to the T248. The T598 was smooth and consistent. Seen other reviews where the wheel was loud but this thing is silent, even the paddles are mildly quiet. Love it
Hey I did the same, I'm on a t248 right now, the 598 is available end of November in my country, so I pre ordered it. What's your lap time? I managed to do a 8:24:336 today. Top 100 drivers doing 8:00 🙈 but I'm ok with it.
@@ashleyg8373 yeah I was done after 20 laps of qualifying 😄 cars I would recommend... Renault RS01, Amg Gt '20, Bmw M6 and Nissan GTR '18. In this particular order. Did my consistent and fastest laps with the Renault.
@@irish7460 Not if you suffer from overheating and loss of feedback from it. Of course people can do just fine on lower level wheels. You can also just stick with a controller and not purchase a wheel at all.
@@thecasualracinggamerExact reason why I am getting this wheel, fed up of losing ffb and overheating, Thrustmaster need a video to hear the fan before they would consider repair. Price seems good to get in to DD.
Just got a t598 and only problem coming from T-GT II was how tall this is. Doesn't work where the T-GT II was at all. Had to resort to max seat height and a cargo van type position just to test it out. Will be getting a rig now. Would like to point out that being able to adjust dampening, spring, speed, force, and other things from the base is a huge plus for ps5 users. Being able to fine tune these settings instead of just dealing with gt7's is a game changer and my only complaint with T-GT II. Really looking forward to getting a rig so I can finally find a comfortable sitting position.
to be fair in 6 months it probably will be once they improve the firmware and if your on pc it will almost certainly end up being a significant upgrade
thank you for your honest review. I was waiting for your comparison between this wheel and tgt2. I have a tgt2 and I'm happy with it , especially with transducer that's another level of immersion
Great review man, appreciate your honesty, especially being a TGTII user as well. When they first announced the T598 I was impressed that was only 5NM I thought I was going to be at least 8NM just higher than the actual TGT. I see others reviewers testing the T598 only on GT7 I would love to see other games in action definitely console games. Like AC F1 games project cars etc. It would interesting to see how the new base performance with other titles. In the other hand I have a feeling TM is going to release a pro version or something with more torque for console users at least 8Nm will be ideal. Thank you for doing this, looking forward to your coming up reviews. ✌🏽
Good to know that! I still love my TGTii playing different games with it, and it seems to be working fine great FFB. I would definitely considering on getting just the T598 base when it comes available next year.
I think it is important to mention that the harmony feature still needs work from the game developers as TM said, so hopefully it will deliver the same whole effects as the transducer but way better. Also, it seems right now the real power of wheel base is better delivered in AC, according to another review.
Got mine today using TLCM pedals instead been tinkering with setting for GT7 feeling pretty good so far. Huge upgrade from T300 for sure. A little more experimenting and it will do the job real nice
Nice. Huge upgrade from T300 sounds promising. I ordered mine yesterday. So you have it in compatibility mode 3 and it is registered as a TGT in Gran Turismo? Sensitivity 10 and Force Feedback between 5 and 7 I guess? How do the pedals feel?
@@JMP816 I'm surprised to hear this because it feels very empty to me. I have all the setting maxed and updated firmware. It feels half as strong as the 300 and has a quarter of the detail.
@@Lava-Puperze You got it pretty much, the TLCM pedals feel the same as they always have. I adjusted the base spring also to 15% and damper to 20% Lows +2 Highs +2
Thanks for the review. Its nice to see direct drives coming down to a casual gamers price range. I am very interested to see what your review will be after a few months with it. Be interested to see if you drift back to your original wheel.
Great video really enjoy what you are doing and glad you have been recognised with T M sending you the wheel would love to see a video you setting up the VR2 what you did from the start as feel mine could be better cheers take care
There really isn't much to do with PSVR2 on PS5. Just make sure the lens distance is set correctly for your eyes, and it is also placed correctly over your head for the sweet spot.
Very important question when comparing to T-GT: Is the "Harmony" high frequency vibration function even working in GT7 at the moment? I have understood Harmony is not the gear jolt effect you mixed it in this review but they are two separate features. I was expecting Harmony to be similar effects to T-GTs T-DFB transducer. It would be crucial for the comparison to know if the "Harmony" actually is working.
The only rewiever on which i trust! Im not gonna upgrade from my TGt2 then il wait until more updates and they sell the Base alone. Happy with my Loadcells.
Great review, I have a t300 it's less than a year old so going to upgrade in the new year, does it work with the T-Lcm pedals, l usely play Gt7 and wrc
Yes, I kept using the TLCM pedals, and the Raceline pedals are still in the box. When the load cell kit gets released I might get it and swap the TLCM just because they are more customizable.
That is just the review that I was expecting. I've got a question: since there's so many T-GT2 players using it for Gran Turismo 7, for those also using the T-LCM BRAKES, is anyone having problems about the brakes losing the CALIBRATION setting every time you turn on the Playstation? because I'm having that over and over and I saw that this is a common issue, and is one of the most compelling reasons that I was thinking as well about jumping boat and going to the T598, but thanks to the reviewer here I am not going to do it as of yet
A couple dumb questions. Can the t300 rim be used there with the new quick release? And in older games like project cars 2 will it work? Maybe the game will recognize it as a t300? Thx
I started off with a g29 i then upgraded to the original TGT wheel at launch back in 2017 and ive never had any issues in the 7 years ive had it !! The tgt was a massive improvement over the g29 very smoothe was so much more realistic especially when i purchased the sparco wrc wheel again being 33cm diameter made a huge difference in realism i then upgaded my pedals to the Tlc load cell pedals and i have to say the set up i have is just so so good having read your review i dont think im all that tempted to replace my tgt with this new T598 ??? if its going to feel " different " and light compared to the TGT then i think i would rather stick to my tgt maybe i might replace with the newer TGT 2 ? as this shud come down massively in price if it doesnt then thrustmaster are sending out signals that the t598 isnt as good as the tgt 2 ? Also i can just purchase the TGT Wheel hub on its own so i may do that and then maybe see what the reviews are next year for the new t598 and maybe just get the t598 hub when they start selling that separately ?? choices choices !!
I do love my T-GT II but the biggest problem with it is going to be the new release wheels that are only going to be compatible with the new QR wheelbases
I have a t248 and was about to upgrade to a tgt2 plus open wheel add on. But I've ordered the 598, I like the display functionality and the big wheel diameter. It's nearly the same price for the 598 and the tgt base plus open wheel. I hope it was a good decision. I hope it will fit on my playseat challenge, with the t248 it's very comfortable but the 598 with the mounting profile will have a different angle and more height.
I am going to upgrade to this from a G923. I just read that the G923 only has 2.2Nm of peak torque. I didn't realize it was that little. That can feel quite weighty in the correct car. For example the Bugatti everyone is using in this week's Daily B race. You can tell you are driving a big heavy car. I'm guessing that I'll be happy with the constant 5 Nm, and the peak 10Nm.
I think the price will draw a lot of people in. In Canada, the difference between this and the T300 is only $40, but the jump from this to the TGT II is another $300. I'm still pretty happy with my T300, but one day I may upgrade to this.
Please thrustmaster, make a stand alone $100 handbrake to match this, or $150 sequential/handbrake combo to compete with logitechs new release. If you make a $150 combo, i would buy 2 for my rig, or if you make a $100 standalone handbrake i would buy that. Youve made the th8s which i am buying with my t598, but we need other products to match please. I would also buy a new and improved th8a. At this point the th8a is no longer a $200 product. We need a new and improved h-pattern/sequential combo
Ok so I’ve subbed and liked cause this is the “real” review. Everything he says is true. For me, I just upgraded to the Logitech pro cause this product isn’t as good but for “mid” players, this is perfect. It’s Better then a g920 or g923 but probably just past a t-300. So it’s mid gear. Logitech pro is the next step up, mark my words. Take care good people and happy racing.
I bought a tgt2, to upgrade from a t300, 2 days before they announced this wheel. Your review of the tgt2 helped me decide originally, glad to know, it might have cost me a little more but it wasn't a mistake, and the tgt2 is still mostly on par with DDs of a similar strength.
You’re missing a point, Nm output is not everything. It's how quickly information is communicated to you and how much of the smaller details you can feel. TGT2 is a fine wheel, but DD's can communicate things so much faster and to a much greater extent.
@@kuzeykb i understand that, i'm not saying the tgt2 is better, just that they're similar enough, that i don't regret my purchase considering the timing. That being said, as a bigger stronger guy, i was over powering my t300 too often, even with pc fan mods to allow me to run it at 100% it was just too weak and was my main reason for upgrading, but detail from t300 maxxed to the tgt2 is still a big step up imo, especially in gt7.
@kuzeykb Yes, DD wheels can deliver faster information, but it also depends on a drivers skill level and pedal control as well. Also, what people get used to. It's why controller players can also run top times, and so can players on a G29! Having better equipment doesn't just translate to being better.
@tomihenrik4387 I can't speak for him but in my case I I've been really busy with school this semester. And I've been in the market for a new console dd release for at least 7 months.
If your wheel is too light increase damper settings on the wheel. Fanatec also has inertia settings, but I am not sure if Thrustmaster has it. But I am pretty sure you can get it to feel the way you need it through software.
@@thecasualracinggamer Just FYI, on Fanatec there are 3 settings that are completely from the wheel itself and applied on top of the effects that come from the wheel. Those are: Natural Damper, Natural Friction(might be a better option to solve your problem), Natural Inertia. By using these 3 you can make the wheel feel heavy even w/o any inputs from the game. So, even if the damper doesn't work, there might be something else.
I pulled the trigger on this after having my T300 for a few years. After a short adjustment period, well worth the low cost intro to DD or should I say DAD? First noticed improvement in corner precision and tight chicanes. I too already have the TLCM so won’t bother with the new pedals now, maybe later once they have the LC upgrade. Still figuring out the settings, although I put the FFB at preset level one on a Gr1 car in Gt7, when I got to top speed the wheel shook violently, had to turn that down 😂 Good review
Put the ff profile in the settings menu on the base to 3 and it makes a big difference on GT7 it comes factory set to 0 and you cant adjust settings when in 0 only in 1, 2, 3 profiles, when in profile 3 it puts it into extreme mode.
Did you know the Thrustmaster T598 has preloaded presets and apparently Thrustmaster recommend using preset 3 for GT7? Did you use preset 3 for your testing? Good video, cheers
Nice Cas, well done.. i love my t-gtii. Only thing my gut feeling is direct drive is more accurate, so in theory this should make you more consistent.. a one off lap the tgtii is as quick as anything, I've just always felt I'm replicating the same lap but have to make tiny adjustments. You'll only no this after doing some qualifications i reckon.. this is £450 uk so base only I'm guessing will be around £350.. that is a head turner if its more accurate 🤔
As a casual racer, the difference in accuracy probably has less effect on me than someone trying to compete in top splits with top times. I will probably gain more time and consistency with better throttle and brake control over a better wheel. Having said that, at the price, the T598 offers a great option for console players who want to jump to DD. The more I play with it, the more I like it.
Yes, the wheel requires an update on your PC through the Thrustmaster firmware upate app. I was supplied the update file from Thrustmaster. It might be available in the app now, if not hopefully soon.
As long as they're using the same connector, they should just work or might require a firmware update to the wheelbase to recognise the pedals properly
@@Sithhy cheers cob, I’ve got some me TLCMs and a t300, would like to upgrade the the wheelbase and retain the load cell. Afterwards selling the t300 and two pedal set
All the reviews keep saying TM saved on using less copper thanks to that new technology. Where did the money go then? How did Moza manage to offer aluminum casing R5 with a leather wheel rim, full-metal pedals, plenty of copper inside and still make some profit? 😮
Maybe PS support chip/license is a significant fraction of the cost. Anyways, it is good to have a new product on the market for competition. After all, it is the thing making old players on the field move and stop selling us the same stuff (looking at you, gear/belt drives) for ages. Hope this axial drive also gives a little shake up to the current offer.
@@thecasualracinggamer ah, I don't have a computer to do any of that so hopefully I can return it tomorrow...sometimes the future is overly complicated and lame
@@Themaddtapp3rThat stinks. I didn't even think about what people would do if they don't have a PC. Do you know anyone with a laptop that can bring it over?
The first impression was anti climactic! The default setting is to weak But once you dial the settings in how you like it, its everything i was expecting. 💯
Aluminum isn't magnetic. Steel would be magnetic, so i don't think you want that on an electro magnetic motor casing 🙂 Like putting tin foil on your head and stuff.
Thrustmaster sure missed a massive opportunity to have lots of people upgrade their TGT2… hopefully they release something better maybe another 5 years lol
Price it beats fanatec, Quality fanatec wins, Big question is does it feel as good as the dd pro!? If it is not an upgrade from the TGT 2, then why are ppl buying dd pro and xstream?
I have never used the Fanatec DD Pro 5 Nm but there have been plenty of people who say their T-GT II feels as good if not better. It's the 8 Nm you need to jump to appreciate the difference.
@@thecasualracinggamer what does the difference in nm's mean, I just thought it was for ffb, as an old guy my t300 is to strong I've turned it down by half.
If the T300 is too strong for, then you don't really want something more powerful. The T598 won't hurt your arms but it will deliver a lot more nuances and feeling in the wheel over the T300.
@@daz_ps5the wheel has a max nm's in this is torque ( how heavy it feels) and ffb ,( the small details, curbs bumps ect,) the higher you are to the max nm the smaller details are lost, this is why 20/30 nm's are more realistic to a real race car.
Man, my brain can’t handle the 4 red stripes that are offset on the wheel. I’m used to a single center-stripe and this looks just wrong 😅 Other than that it seems like a good package for the price.
I dont enjoy the feeling. It doesnt remond me of a dd and doesnt have seprration between the feedback. Its a fluid feel yes but it doesnt have those momnetw where you really get that weight with tire feel it doesnt have the suspension feel. I dont like this dd design at all. Its weird ive felt 5nm dd wheels you still feel the weight and the tires and you feel all of the mids you cant here its just one fluid motion without seperation and i dont get it because dd wheels dont feel this way and they have much more granualar fetail with much better weight and stopping power you shoudl feel the seperation between each feeling it shouldnt be the same feeling everywhere. I dont believe this is an uogrqde at all rven over the tgt2 because its not telling you the things you need to know. Ive never felt a dd like this and i dont think its the future at all. It was thrustmaster finding a way to make a cheaper motor and using a sales pitch on its smoothness thats it. I love my dd wheels and this was a horrivle experience for me when comparing to other dd and rven a wheelbase like the cswv2 5 or tgt2.
If u have crew motorfest try that go to settings put the vibrations to 100 and ffb to 100 in settings on game and set it up on base how u like and it shows u more of what this base can do i was disappointed in gt7 with it

Seems strange to compare the tgt2 to this DD because its just a over priced belt drive, its only slightly better than the t300 imo. This t598 has absolutely killed the tgt 2, whos gonna spend 7-800 on it now? The answer is nobody
The T-GT II is a nice step up from the T300, much more than slightly better. My comparison isn't to say people should go out and buy a T-GT II today, it's to say that for those who already own it, it's still a great wheel, with great force and details. Just because something uses older tech doesn't mean it's bad.
@@thecasualracinggamer my iphone 6 still works perfectly well but there is very obvious differences to my current iphone 15 (maybe 😂) i just find it hard to believe a belt drive can be comparable to any direct drive. I mean for price of the tgt2, you buy 2 moza r5s or a fanatec gt pro plus the new gt3 rim. It just makes no sense to me
First, I appreciate your comments, by the way. Second, I never said in this video that people should buy the T-GT II over the T598. What I said was that for those who own the T-GT II, it's still a great wheel, and they shouldn't feel the need to run and replace it. I think the T-GT II feels above its class as a belt driven wheel. Of course DD can deliver quicker responses being directly connected. If someone is running out to purchase a wheel today for the first time, 100% I would recommend the T598.
@@thecasualracinggameri wasnt implying you were. Im just stating that you said you wouldnt upgrade from the tgt2. Im simply pointing out the crazy price of the tgt2. I believe it should be an extra 100 above the t300 max as no matter what, its still a belt drive
@@sailingenki2038 I'm not disagreeing about the price of the T-GT II. When it was my recommended wheel, it was for people who were already in the Thrustmaster ecosystem. If you owned the T-LCM pedals. If you had a compatible rim. Just purchasing the base was $500 usd and nothing else better was in that price range for console. You would need to be around $800 usd to get into DD. The T598 changed everything. It's also why I stated this wheel is a big deal for Playstation players.
The G 29 is what I’m still using and it’s the only wheel I’ve ever been able to afford. Since I don’t have anything to compare to it, I love it. I am really curious about this wheel and if you try it and really like it respond to this and let me know how different it is from the g29
