Officials say a teenager was behind the wheel of the car that collided with police in Clairemont earlier this week. And, a former Chula Vista councilmember has been sentenced to two years probation and ordered to pay restitution for fraudulently obtaining pandemic relief funds. This is a terrible situation that was 100% preventable. I hope the parents or legal guardian of this kid are, at the very least, charged with manslaughter. This kid had no drivers license, no vehicle insurance & the parents gave him full access to a 4000 pound missile. Whether he killed a police officer by gun or by a car. Dead is dead. One of the officerburned to death. The other officer was on fire stuck in the car, fully aware of his situation. This officer was cooked. Life as this officer knew it is forever gone. One would need all their fingers & toes & then some to count how many surgeries they will need over their life span. I can not find any grace for this kid. He had no grace for others. Think about it, people. One officer was burned to death literally. The other officer was aware that he, too, was on fire. I can not comprehend what was going through their minds. I just can't. It's too horrific to comprehend. The parent or legal guardian must be charged for their part in this. The parents need to be charged as accessories. Maybe that will cause parents to parent.

This entire incident is the fault of proper parenting. Why is he driving with no license, who's car was he driving, lots of questions his family should be asking themselves. Who allowed him to drive...someone had to know he took the car as they knew he was going for food. He got caught speeding, knew he didn't have a license and ran from officers, so dumb on his part, now 2 people are dead, another's life is likely altered and all because someone let him take the car and drive, that person should feel really proud....hopefully the district attorney files charges on that person.

The teen driver had only a dad (no mother). Most likely the dad is not in the U.S. legally -- when these people simply walk over the border into our country -- THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT OUR LAWS or our way of life. Whatever country the dad came from is most likely a 3rd world country where the people there do whatever they want with no legal consequences. I doubt that this "trip to pick up food" was the first time that this 16-year-old kid was out driving by himself. Why would the dad, here in this country illegally, care about the fact that it's against the law for his son to be driving without a license at 16 or have a parent with him in the car with a learner's permit? His dad DOESN'T care about our LAWS!! I wonder now that he's lost his son, will he care about our laws? We have laws in place for a reason. .
