@@NothingToProve how do bikes like these 3 compared to something like a 2016 Suzuki GSX s1000f, aside from the obvious differences? Scott, I know you have written all of them, and value your Insight.
I have a 2015 Yamaha Tracer, test rode the 2021 version, wasn't that impressed, it has some good features, but at 6ft3 I didn't find it as roomy as my current ride. Waiting on a Triumph demo now..
Great comparison- have a GT Pro and love it, couldn’t live with Tracer and the ugly TFT as you say - BMW great bike but dealer aftercare seems a problem for many !
Not to mentiom Yamaha is cutting cost with only 1side headlight on, in this day and age. Shame on Yamaha! Double shame on BMW for being greedy and miserly!
Just bought a new GT Pro. Good review but you seem to do the mpg for US gallons but neglected to quote UK imperial gallons. For a moment I thought no way does my bike do 45 mpg average. 53 for UK gallons. Personally I get 50 with a pillion and 55 solo.
LOL, you British guys are so funny. Imperial gallons... The world is on the metric system. I only reference US gallons because there are so many Americans and if I don't they may invade Germany again. Without your help this time...LOL! Ok, joking aside, thank you for inputting what you get, that's actually pretty good mileage (for a Triumph - ok, now I'm joking again...sorry) Get a few beers in me and I make fun of everything. take care, Scott
A very fair review Scott. I've had a 900GT for almost a year now, I absolutely love it. I average around 60mpg, so get around 240 miles out of a tank. Screen is good, seat is good. In all honesty, if I was buying a new bike tomorrow, I would buy the 900GT again 👍
Thank you Del, it's always good to hear from actual owners and their experience with the bike. I don't know why Triumph officially states such bad fuel economy for this great motor. I just love the exhaust note. take care, Scott
@@NothingToProve I've just come back from a 170 mile morning ride around Snowdonia in North Wales, lots of twisties and rain. It performed impeccably. Oh and I averaged 62.4mpg. I've just changed the stock tyres which lasted 5000 miles, probably had another 1k in them. Changed to michelin Road 5s and changed front tyre size to 100/80/19 feels a lot better than the OEM Metzeler
Oh, so you went from a 100/90 to a 100/80 on the front, why? Just curious, better road performance? But yes, I get the switch from Metzler to Michelin, I love the Road 5 on my XR.
I sold my 1200 GSA and bought a 2021 Tiger 900GT. Other than the shaft drive, I like the Tiger better in every way. It’s just a really nice all around bike, particularly for older guys like me who refuse to give up riding.
I'm 65 and thinking of giving up my honda f6b and purchasing the 900 gt, I sat on one and fell in love, I dont tour much any longer. My rides are usually 75 to 250 miles, how the buffeting, I'm 5`6" , the f6 is 900 pounds and a effort just to get out of garage!
Also 65 and ride a 900 GT Low. I would ride that machine every day if opportunity exists. Fantastic product where weight of 900 is very manageable for this young older guy.
Always ride safe. Be cool. People appreciate considerate riders. Being on two wheels is a dream in motion. Share the dream wisely! The road is a gateway to freedom for all!
My wife told me to not watch your videos because I keep buying bikes after your review 😂😂- just a splendid job reviewing this Scott, I actually bought MT10 after your review and now i just bought Tiger 900 GT Pro after your review - But dont worry i wont stop watching your awesome videos - Keep it coming as it is and Indeed any day on a two wheel is indeed a beautiful day.
Hi Scott, great review. I have the exact same bike. 2021 gt pro in red. I love it. It’s comfy, leans well in turns and eats miles on pavement and off road. Triumph got it right. It’s the Swiss Army knife of Bikes. You should get one .
GREAT review man. I"ve been going back and forth on these bikes for a YEAR now. I too HATE that Q#$% TFT so much. So, I'll now go check out the Tiger. I'll do about 90% street and 10% off road in Baja and it might just be the best fit. Scott I love your vids man, keep em coming and thanks for helping me a ton in my decision here.
Very fair review, as always. I still like my XR and can live with its imperfections. However, that being said, BMW needs to refine the bike. For the price, any bike that is 10K plus should be( in my humble opinion) damn near perfect. I've been riding and occasionally racing motorcycles for over 40 years now and coming from a no frills beginning I can tell you that today's motorcycles and tires are light years ahead of anything dreamed of back in 1978! My biggest problem with the Tiger and the Tracer is the modern-bug-like look. I simply can't get used to much of the new styling that accompanies many of the newer models. I can't help it...I'm retro! Cheers Scott!
I couldn't agree more! Well said, thank you! And yes I too can and am living with the imperfections of the XR simply because all bikes have them. All 3 of these bikes are great bikes and will make any one happy. take care, Scott
Interesting review. For me I like the low end torque. I love the feeling of the power pulses coming on down low, right off of the idle. The 17in front wheel on the xr vs the 19 on the triumph combined with the slightly lower fork stroke would result in the XR being a more nimble motorcycle and more planted bike on a twisty paved road at a spirited pace. If it were me I'd sort out the rear brake on the XR and keep it. Having said that, follow your heart Scott, that Triumph is a nice motorcycle, life is short.
I looked at the XR and the tiger was going to buy the XR until I saw the 950 S multi-Strada. After a lot of comparison I bought the 950 S multi and can honestly say I am so happy I did what a great bike
Should add that I do own the 950S! I have not tried any of the other bikes. I bought the Ducati because I got a good deal and I liked the electronics package, which is a cut above other bikes in this class, at least it was before the Tracer GT was launched with its electronic suspension. It’s odd that the Multistrada 950 and S are often overlooked in tests like this.
Excellent review.Love my 2015 FJ-09 was/am considering the '21 Tracer9 GT. Your review has opened a new can of worms for me.My first triple was a Triumph Tiger 1050. Will be visiting the Triumph dealer to see/test the 900 Pro.Thanks for time/effort in the comparisons.Rick,76yrs/Seattle
Hi good revue👍 sat on a tracer 9 today sadly to cramped and the dash looks awful. I have been looking at tiger 900 but am not a fan of 19 inch front wheel 17 would have been perfect if you want an offroad bike you would just buy the rally version the gt should be road only .the xr900 I sat on in dealers looked nice but is to short in the seat it felt like my wife was on my back.as a compromise i think I'm going to buy the triumph thanks for all your facts and figures 👍
Excellent once more, and a great resource for those in the market. Like yourself it seems, I do have a liking for torque over hp (which is what weds me to my GS), but having ridden both the XR and Tiger 900 I'd have to agree with all of the points you have made. For me, whilst the XR is a solid machine, I just felt less cramped and more comfortable on the Tiger - it was the one that I wanted to go back to. For what it's worth, I also prefer the looks. I can see your interest has been raised with this bike, so I look forward you to testing the KTM and Ducati options before you commit:-)
And now, please compare these three bikes to the Multistrada 950s, that would be really interesting! I had the MTS 950s for one day and fell in love with its handling immediately :-) It has a very comfy seating position, wind protection works well and the supension ist superb IMHO. Thumbs down though for the engine which is very rough under 3.000 RPM and the Quickshifter, which tends to find EVERY neutral between all 6 gears :-D
Great review! Just transitioned from a '15 Tracer to a '20 GT. Noticed the power drop right away, but would trade it for the huge upgrade in comfort any day.
Thank you so much for the review sir, I was confused between the 900 GT and ralley pro. I have my answer now sir. Time to get my bike. Loads of love from India ❤️😊🙏
Great video Scott , brilliant honest review! I’ve owned the Gt pro for a year , and I love it . I’ve Just completed a 5 day trip around Scotland ,and I was amazed how good this bike was , it just about kept up with the Gs and had the upper hand on the Africa twin ! it was like ridding a magic carpet ! so happy you liked it to 👍👍
It’s good that you guys on RU-vid get to show what Triumphs are like. Trying to get to try one (in the UK at least) is harder than getting Elvis to sing at my birthday. They may well be fantastic bikes but they have much to learn about customer service, an area where BMW excel.
Same in Melbourne, Australia. Couldn’t even get a return phone call from Triumph dealer or get anyone to speak to me in their stores, let alone a test ride of the Tiger so I bought the XR - excellent pre & post sales service from BMW.
What a amazing review sir. Loads of love from India. I was actually confused between the tiger 900 gt and gt pro . I have the clarity now and can pick my tiger 900 gt pro Thank you 😊😊❤️
I went with the ninja over the tiger gt pro for a few reasons. The price difference in australia is ridiculous. The tiger is at least 5 grand more. I priced it with the triumph luggage and a few other bits and pieces and it would have been more than 8 grand more. Plus, i want a bike that i love the look of as well as enjoy riding. The tiger and the yamaha look very meh to me. Sure, both of those would have a more comfortable riding position for all day riding. I made the right choice for me.
tracer and tri 900 are apples and oranges the tracer excels in the twisties with less travel and more weight on front end, while the triumph is engineered to survive offroad. I would not want to ride that triumph like I DO ride my Tracer but I also would NOT take my Tracer offroad. Now if someone does not care to ride fast in the twisties then perhaps the Triumph is a better deal for them idk especially if they have use for more travel ....excess travel is not a good thing riding fast in curvey tarmac
That's the GT Pro it has a lot of extras. I'm sure a fully speced out f900xr would cost just as much. I know even a bmw r1250gs cost less the the tiger GT pro. (Surprisingly)
About to decide weather to upgrade from the Tiger 850 to a gt pro. Is there any usefulness to the the triumph Bluetooth connectivity system? Would it not be better to just hook your helmet straight to your phone?
Another great review, I actually own the Tiger .. about 7K km on it, really love the bike for me only 2 negative issues : seat is not that great after a 8h drive :) and I do not like the rear break but the front is awesome. I also testdrove the Tracer and the XR, for me the Tracer my expectations were not met and the XR the QuickShifter is on the low RPM not that smooth, also for my feel I leaned a bit much to the front putting some weight on my wrists ... like you say all 3 bikes are very nice bikes, but for me the Tiger is the best value for money
2022 tiger 900 GT pro, rear brake is weak. Vibrations of engine riding hard and fast in twisties can get annoying, but at lower speeds, kinda interesting.
Thanks sire for the comparison. I have been looking to get an touring bike, coming from a Suzuki GSX S 750. I had a look at the Tiger 850 sport, Tracer 9 and V strom 1050. In the Netherlands all around the same price. Which one would you take? I use it for the weekends and for commuting. Great comparison and I like the way you try to compare them in different categories. Edit: one bike that I keep looking at is the Tenere 700. So that would not be a real competitor but I just like the way it looks
Excelent review Scott as always. It is pure therapy for me. Thanks for your work. Take care out there (specially when riding with your friend and his GS 😉). You know the risks we all face when riding.
Hello, Is the tank of the tiger big at the spacing of the thighs? Is it wider in the crotch than the Tracer 9? I ask the question because I am quite sensitive to the level of the spacing of the thighs. Thank U.
Sorry, those are not "my" figures, all figures I get on any bike is from the OEM. Not from a magazine, article, or new paper but from the Mfg. that makes the bike. Of course they have stringent guide lines that they have to follow to get those numbers, you don't. :)
@@NothingToProve best way to do it. I was just making a point that how you ride is a lot more important than what you ride. I could probably push 90mpg but most people won't. In cars I often get double the mpg most people do. Got my transit connect at 66.9mpg uk not bad for a 2.4tonne van.
Great review and timing. I am looking at trading in my 1290 Superduke on one of these three plus the Honda ATAS and am having some difficulty with the choice. Leaning toward the Tiger or AT at this point, just need to be honest with myself on how much off-road ability I need.
Great review Scott. I agree with you in liking the power down low, but there are some people who like to rev it up. So, you have given them the truth. I will never forget overhearing some guys complain about Ducati’s not having enough high RPM power like a multi cylinder bike. This was on a Ducati demo day and I still remember how sweet the Ducati was with a great motor. This was the 848 back in 2007 or so. Keep up the good work and I hope BMW can fix the back brake and seat plus LCD for you.👊
I watch every review, great content! Riding a '21 mt09 at the moment. Im at the end of my 20's.. probably will go for an adventure bike after 3 or 4years. I like the triumphs styling so much. Will probably go for that one.
Hi Scott. I love watching your honest reviews and look forward to your new videos. Can you please do a comparison video between the tiger gt pro and the r1250rs. Mainly, how do the compare in city riding, highway and which would be better for longer distances. I think it would make for a very informative video for people who want a tourer as well as a daily commuter.
A great comparison, thanks for sharing it. Having owned the Triumph 800XRx and the Bmw S1000XR I can tell the both were awesome machines. I bet the new Tiger is even better.
Thanks for this excellent video comparison! A different RU-vidr claims the Tiger 900 has excessive vibration around 4k rpm, and said it was so bad as to make him not want to buy it. I don't see any mention of vibration in these comments. Did you observe any "disqualifying" vibration?
There are many idiots on youtube, including this idiot...me :) Some guys just like to complain about something if they can't find anything cause it gets views. And no, the vibration is not bad at all, normal for an in-line 3 cylinder...and this is coming from a guy that owns a 2 cylinder (which is worse than this). ride safe, Scott
Thanks a lot, man. Considering the latest iteration of this for both the city, Athens, Greece, and touring. I am between this, the Tracer 2024 GT, and Suzuki 800 RE. To be honest I am warming up to this more and more. Just a question. I have heard some issues with the 900 GT Pro's quick shifter (1 to 2 and vice versa). Brilliant review as always. To the point, concise and engaging. Cheers, and safe riding.
Well, I've ridden all the middleweight ADV bikes and this is the smoothest QS. All QS have a problem (usually) with going between gears 1 and 2, up or down, simply because it's the greatest distance compared to the rest of the gears. take care, Scott
Thanks a lot, man. I am considering the latest iteration of this. I am between this, the Tracer 7 GT, and the Suzuki 800RE. I will be using it for the city, commuting in Athens, Greece, and touring. To be honest, I am warming up to this more and more. A couple of questions. I have heard the 900 GT Pro has some issues with its quick shifter (1 and 2). Also, I have heard its service costs are higher than the other two. A brilliant review, as always. Concise, to the point, and engaging. Cheers, and safe riding.
Service costs very widely from country to country and from dealer to dealer. So I can't give that kind of information. The easiest way is to go ask your local dealer, they won't want to answer right away but press them and go to the service area and ask what is the basic cost of first service/second service...etc. take care, Scott
Hi Marcel, The BMW TFT is more practical and easier to navigate, the Triumph is prettier, classier but less practical and more difficult to navigate about in. Yes it has turn-by-turn navigation but I have not tried it as of yet. take care, Scott
NTP, Do the trade for the triumph you look good on it and that exhaust note sounds excellent! I enjoy all your videos they are very professional and educational to make us viewers aware of the pros and cons of the latest bikes on the market.
Where was the Ducati 950S, The Moto Guzzi 850 and the KTM890 on your comparison list? all three twins all three about the same size and for the same purpose the only real direct competitor with the Tiger is another triple, the Yam MT09, all the rest are quite different in engine config and size etc.
Sport Touring, Roadster/Retro/Classic, Naked groups, respectively. You are confusing engine layout and size with what group the bike is in, simple mistake, I do it too. take care, Scott
Thanks for reviewing and comparing the Tiger 900! The whine of the engine is annoying but the smooth intuitive handling makes up for it. One thing you may not have noticed on the GT is the vibration in the bars and foot pegs. After a few hour, it can lead to tingling fingers and leg fatigue. Another factor that may be important to some is a low options. The Tiger has a GT Low, which I own. The BMW also has a low version but I don't think the Tracer does. Scott, you always have great videos, full of very useful information and evaluations. Thanks!!
Thank you. Yes, I'm aware, it's just that there are so many things to say that I have to pick and choose what I say to keep the videos length down to a reasonable time. Yes, I felt the vibration but it really is no more than the 900XR and since I ride my 900XR everywhere, I guess I'm used to it. :) take care, Scott
The great thing on the Tiger is you can seriously undercut the fuel economy given by the manufacturer. Can get down to less than 4.5l if you ride in low revs 😅 I love the Tiger, just a great bike
Yes so true but you can do that with every bike. I've consistently had 3.8l on my XR and sometimes even lower when I checked it physically, gas tank full to gas tank full by now many km ridden. But yes, I think I'll trade my miserly XR for a gas guzzling triple over the winter :) I just love the Tiger 900 GT and Rally too. take care, Scott
@@NothingToProve you too! It's an amazing bike. I do have the low variant which is a bit more planted on the road. It just rides well and the triple is a great engine.
Another great comparison review, thanks Scott! .. Most people I have know have swapped out the original xr seat for a Wunderlich or added visco/gel.. Have you not thought of doing that?
Thanks for your comparo. I considered all three of these bikes recently when buying my first ever new vehicle. I ended up buying a vee strom. I am not sure what has happened though, because it hasn't grabbed my heart like l thought it would. Perhaps its a bit like deciding to remarry after your wife dies or something, as l have been riding my BMW R1150 GS for years and like it as an overall package, but for a very stiff clutch lever and no cruise control, l love it. I just have bad arthritis in my ckutch thumb now. Quick shifters sound like a great idea for older riders. My heart is not in my new bike, and even though l have had it since April, l haven't run it in. I am just not inspired, perhaps l am past riding now at 62 (and shouldn't have got remarried!?).
G'day big Red. Age is not the barrier brother, let me assure you of that. A little time seaching of the heart is all that is required. What motorcycle TODAY really grabs you! Test ride it andc if you keep thinking about it and checking out every review on the tube, then get it. I'm 63 at the end of this year and I will be trading my 2014 Vstrom 1000 and the VFR800 for that one bike that will keep me riding until I fall off the perch, or my wife pushes me off! LOL. Wish you better miles with the next bike brother.
Thank you Big Red! Yea the V-Strom didn't more me either when I did the review of it last year, sure it's a good bike but there was nothing, no emotion, kind of like a cheap hooker, you go through the motions and she gets the job done but the next day you've already forgotten about her & looking at a different one. 😁 I'd suggest taking a Tiger 900 GT Pro for a test ride if you can, the QS is the best out there today and the riding position is square, just like sitting down in a chair, everything is square. good luck finding your next girlfriend, Scott
@@NothingToProve but once taken off road that bike is , 👌👌👌👌👌 bmw bikes are purpose built except their territory they are built bmw bikes suck in other areas thats why they created the r1250gs 😅😅😅 the one for all of bmw range
Another great review Scott! It’s interesting you’re focusing on all these sport touring motorcycles. I get the impression you’re not enamoured with the BMW as much but remember it was a long time ago in development. I would think the next model release will have all these issues updated & improved because of the competition. A greater slice of the market pie is a companies priority & brand retaining. Perhaps even next year? Always enjoy your inputs & engineering knowledge!✅ Take care & ride safe!
Great review Scott. I’m an owner of vstrom 650 2009 model. Thinking tiger 900gt pro or Ducati multistrada 950v or the 2023 suzuki vstrom 1050. Money do matter thus I’m sceptical on the multistrada. What is yr opinion ? Tanks.
Great review Scott although for me the Tiger is for a different usage than the BMW F900XR or the Tracer 900 GT. The ability to go offroad comes with a trade-off which the BMW and the Yamaho do not need to compromise for. First, a larger front tire means it is not as nimble and direct when carving through the Californian canyons. Second, a cushier suspension feels good on many roads but allows more fork diving which takes away the feel for the road and can be detrimental for a sporty spirited driving style. Try to keep up with Uli's GS in the Alps on the Tiger. I'm sure you will notice the lack of torque and horsepower compared to the other two bikes. I own a F 900 XR for over a year now and I put $12k miles (19,200km) on it. Without some mandatory aftermarket parts (Wunderlich seat, SC-Project exhaust, Hornig riser), I would not have enjoyed it as much as I did. On the quick-shifter topic, I was surprised how mine has gotten better over time, even still over the last few thousand miles. In the beginning, I did not use it because it was hard to shift. Now I'm almost exclusively shifting w/o clutch from 2nd to 6th and down and loving it. The ergonomics are just the best on the BMW although the TFT display is a tick smaller than the Tiger's TFT. In your video, it seemed that the Tiger TFT has more glare than when I compare it with my BMW.
Hi.....sorry about my english i Drive a nc 750 x dct and will change to a f900xr or tiger 900gt. Which ohne is easier for the change and then to Drive all day and in the alps (Alpen).
I’ve read the 2024 Tracer GT quickshifter is much improved. Other items mentioned here I think are improved. If the current iteration of the Tiger has changed, I might be more interested. I’m not looking to get another bike now (happy overall with my R1250RS) but if I want to get a lighter bike, these are likely the ones I would consider.
TFT screen extremely colourful but 90% of the area showing nothing. Why not increase the size of the information it is showing and much less surrounding colours, doing nothing!
Scott, guess you choose the wrong bike for you, or at least, you were expecting XR to be something it isn't, an adventure touring bike. F850GS, Africa Twin are probably the type of bike you are looking for if you would by the Tiger with the mentioned reasons. Nevertheless, nice revews ;) I enjoyed I can tell.
Try EBC HH sintered pads on that rr brake of your XR. They actually made the rr brake on a bike of mine work after putting up with the ineffective stock pads for 15 years! Now the rr brake has both, initiial bite, and binding power. TR's pick of narrow wheels on this bike makes no sense on cast wheels. Sure the tires give you some better off road potential but with cast wheels, you probaby shouldnt get any further into the off road stuff than you would with the 17" tire/wheels on the other bikes. The tracer GT you rode, did it have the electronic, "soft/hard" suspension? Yammie insists on using rubber brakes lines on their bikes. No excuse for that. I don't agree the TR GT is a ST bike...not with that goofy ADV raised exhaust cannister and GS wanna be styling. Nice review. Thanks.
Hi Scott I’m on the verge of buying the 900XR I was almost going to buy the tiger but I am not going to go off road much maybe once a year mostly city and highway rides! Is the XR worth it? As this will be my first big bike.. Thank you for your time.. I found your videos by researching XR and omg you know your audience will be waiting for more from you!!
I would always choose a Japanese bike over a Euro/Thai bike for any touring. Too many experiences with the later, none with the former. For daily riding I had had 5 Triumphs, still have a 1200Thruxton which is an all time fave but electrical glitches raise their head at the worst of times on too many Euro bikes. I know there are all the nay sayers but I know of too many stories including my own.
