Reminds me of modern Uechi-Ryu karate, derived from Pangainoon Kung-Fu...Stance is open-handed like this, and that grip is one of their most feared weapons! Thanks for video!

Shao Lin Kung Fu is amazing for fitness, health, and self defense! Just make certain, no matter what you are doing, that you are taking care of yourself. You want healthy fingers and everything else when you are 60 and older. Enjoy your training!

I tried this and hurt my hand.I do tiger style kung fu but what we need to understand is that will position hold while working on accuracy.Becuase in this style you have to use the nails of your finger tips with the hand position but sometimes i get lost and use a different position similar to this one.So in this case would a hand position as close as this work and still not affect the hand abilities

There's a training skill to do with the tip of the fingers, in which they're used to hit with. Is it the Tiger Claw as well?
@TaoOfKungFu
@TaoOfKungFu 2 года назад
Yes! Almost every system of kung fu deals with hand and finger conditioning to strike pressure points but some are much more famous for it. Tiger, Mantis, Eagle... In modern times it isn't very relevant or realistic to train so diligently that one could strike with the hands. I would entertain the idea but never actually try it in a fight. It's just too easy to damage the small bones and joints. One of my big philosophies is "train for health, fitness, enjoyment, and if a confrontation happens be able to fight." I see many training so hard and recklessly by the time they are my age they are crippled! Avoid that path at all costs. One would be better off not to train at all rather than train and get hurt worse than a confrontation would end up in.

is it possible to learn two martial arts at the same time?
@TaoOfKungFu
@TaoOfKungFu 5 лет назад
It is definitely possible! I have been in two arts at the same time in the past. A dancer could learn salsa and ballroom dancing at the same time. An artist could learn watercolor and charcoal at the same time. In school we learn math and social studies at the same time. We are diverse in our abilities and are able to do anything we focus on and put time into!

Why stop at 2 styles? Every style accompanies the others. All techniques come from within.... everything is kung fu.
@TaoOfKungFu
@TaoOfKungFu 5 лет назад
@@Catgat37 Agreed! It really depends on what the student's goals are. If it's fitness / recreational, then learn as much as you can when ever you can. If the focus is fighting then get really proficient at one area and dabble at the others building skill as you go. Just think about what the goals are and go for it!

@TaoOfKungFu
@TaoOfKungFu 4 года назад
This form is drastically different from how I originally learned it in the early 90's. I taught and trained in Las Vegas over 20 years. During that time I developed my own style and techniques so I modified this form to be more technically relevant to real life situations while still maintaining a wonderful traditional feel. I don't think it has any relation to Fu Jow Pai but who knows?! It very well could.

@TaoOfKungFu
@TaoOfKungFu 4 года назад
Hey Victor, Thanks for the comment! Eventually I will do a video around that type of conditioning. This video is great for conditioning using isometrics. It is very effective conditioning while keeping the hand safe. Hitting harder surfaces may condition the bones but conditioning like that also poses a lot of risks for arthritis and other inflammatory issues if not done right. If one does a bunch of the isometric type of conditioning it helps protect against the issues of the more aggressive styles of training! Be well!

@TaoOfKungFu
@TaoOfKungFu 5 лет назад
Interesting comment. Does your opinion come from actual experience of training with Jake or is it based on others' opinions? Maybe your comment is just extreme? That instead of a fake you simply disagree with his style of teaching or training because a lot of society today speaks in generalities and extremes. I'm curious. In my experience, I have known Jake for 20 years and he is an incredible athlete and a talented martial artist and I would be hard pressed to imagine anyone who has actually met him and trained with him to claim he is a fraud! Disagreements and differences of opinion in training happen at every level. Even the most elite training camps argue who is right and wrong with training! I would offer that Jake is just different and the style of training is not attractive for you. Thanks for the comment though! Cheers

You can do this nonsense or just join a Fu-Jow Pai (Tiger Claw) school.
@TaoOfKungFu
@TaoOfKungFu Год назад
🤣 Which fu jow pie school specifically? There could be a lot of 'nonsense' ones out there. I always notice the 'nonsense' comments come from traditional backgrounds. I don't care if you don't like what I do but I never put anyone down for whatever they are putting into their training. Here is a big secret: conditioning is conditioning no matter the exercise that achieves it! If you want to join one school then do it! I've seen construction workers with super conditioned hands! There are 1000 roads up the mountain, but it's a big red flag if you have to put down another to make yourself seem superior, and it ends up putting a cloud over all traditional techniques! My favorite martial artists?! MMA and BJJ players, because they know technique will kill no matter what school it comes from, so they respect it all! Real technique and skill keeps the ego in check. and when the ego gets threatened it gets defensive when there is no need. just train, enjoy the fun of it, and keep the egos away!
@geolitz2665
@geolitz2665 Год назад
@@TaoOfKungFu The problem with non Tiger Claw people teaching Tiger Claw is that you are setting up someone to get hurt… possibly severely. It takes 3-5 years of constant, consistent and very intensive Iron Wire training of the tendons and Iron Palm training of the hands before you are able to use a Tiger claw effectively without injuring yourself. If you don’t even know how to form a Tiger Claw properly, then don’t teach people as though you are an authority. This type of video is why BJJ and MMA fighters, and people in general claim that Kung Fu is nice and pretty, but it’s not good for fighting. People in the Kung Fu community are teaching pretend fighting skills to as many people as possible and when those people try to use it to defend themselves or in a ring, it doesn’t work and they get their ass handed to them. Being able to use a Tiger Claw takes years of dedication and blood and sweat and tears. Either put in the work to crate that weapon before teaching it to others, or at least put a disclaimer on your video that this is not a real Tiger claw and in no way should be used in the real world.

@TaoOfKungFu
@TaoOfKungFu 4 года назад
I don't believe I mentioned the word Shaolin once but even if I did it's of no matter. In my nearly 40 years of training martial arts, I have hardly ever seen two instructors teach material the exact same way. If you find what I'm teaching doesn't work for you then, by all means, adopt a better manner of training for your body/personality type. Keep in mind I'm not teaching any one particular system or traditional style. I am sharing the material that has worked for me over the years. The majority of those years was spent in traditional martial arts, like kung fu, tae kwon do, and karate, but I also spent a good amount of time in my late teens boxing, practicing some Muay Thai, and stick and knife fighting. So this is all my blend of things I have learned. Not a particular style. It's only what I have found to work well for me and many of my students. Use it to enjoy life, stay healthy, keep fit and promote family and friendship in a positive way and in the worst scenarios have a conditioned application for self-defense I hope no one ever needs to use. I appreciate the comment and hope this clears some things up!
