In this boot battle, it's the Timberland Premium Waterproof Boot vs the Dr. Martens 1460.
The Timberland Premium Boot is a handsome and iconic design, and it’s built well. The quadruple stitching, Primaloft insulation, thick rubber heel, and padded leather collar are all designed to go the distance.
The biggest drawback is the cemented sole construction, which likely won't hold up to tough working conditions like a Goodyear welted boot.
The Dr. Marten 1460 has a Goodyear welt, but it's made in an unusual manner: the outsole is actually melted and fused to the welt. I haven't heard of another boot that has the same construction method.
We're diving headfirst into these two iconic boots to see which one is the best: is it the Timberland Premium? Or will the Doc Martens take home the trophy.

Please stop saying that Dr Martin is a “combat boot”. The only similarity is that Docs are black. Even that is not accurate since most US services moved away from black in the mid 2000s.

Yeah I wear a pair of Nike combat boots, they're tan suede. They're in regs for OCPs. I think Navy might wear black boots still, but most wear tan.

I have a pair of doc 1461(the derby shoes version of 1460),made in Asia,bought it for $130,and have been wearing them around three times a week for over 4 years now. In my experience they held up surprisingly well,the sole is really slip resistant on smooth surface even when the tread is worn down. The leather is pretty bad though,very plasticy. You don’t need to condition them often but you can’t condition them very throughly either. The sole is pretty comfortable especially after broken in,but I really dislike the fact that it doesn’t have shank,the support is just not there. Overall I wouldn’t recommend them unless you don’t have any higher budget. Solovair will be your superior choice.

Timbies are by far the best boots. Wore them since early 90s. Most comfortable most stylish n durability is great. £180 well spent.

Comparing the premium version of a boot to the baseline/cheapest version of another boot is not at all a fair comparison. Had you used entry level timbs or the Made in England 1460s then this comparison would make sense. But comparing a $200 boot to one you can regularly find for half the price from the maker just doesn't make sense. Also I understand some thing are just better than others, but when comparing and giving points, probably dont give out a random personal preference point. Coming out of the gate giving timbs a point for "personal preference" just screams bias

I own both and it’s really a matter of preference. From a reliability standpoint they’re very similar. Doc Marten is not what is once was but neither is Timberland especially since they started having them manufactured in the Dominican Republic.

I have both too but I prefer the Timbs over the docs because they are more comfortable and because the tread is far more superior than the docs.

Sincerely, i own both, I'm wear both and I'm falling in love with both. Really hard to choose. Timberland for long distance walking and Dr Marthens for urban use.

Doc 1460's all day every day. I've got 2 pair made in Vietnam. I use mink oil on them about once a month and the leather is supple yet solid. After 2 years now the soles are holding up pretty well and I reckon they'll be good to go for at least another 2 years. Having said that I reckon I'll go and buy another pair tomorrow for no dang reason except I just love these boots!

You should compare apple to apple. If you wanna compare the Tims premium, you should compare it to the DM's vintage line 1460 as they are about the same price point and of the "premium" range. Only then, can you really have a good comparison.

Agreed with you. When it's time to compare then you have to compare similar products in specs and range. I have a Made In England pair of the 1460 Pascal on the not common ripple soles (see my unboxing video here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-h9Y7A_Yu1gA.html) and they are great in quality and confort, I don't know about the vintage line but I heard they are like the "real" originals.

Well i think you should have compared the Made in England Version of Doc Martens with the Premium Timberland. Especially when you compare a Thailand/China Marten with the Premium Version of the Timberlands. They have a Shank, the insole ,which is different to Thai Martens, molds really good to your foot, the Leather is superior especially the Horween Leather Version is just WOW and they fit better on your foot overall because its a different shoelast. Its really a completely different feeling when you wear them. After 2 to 4 months they are like a glove on your feet.

Look at rose anvil's channel. They already covered both docs and timbs, went over their material and construction and actually cut these boots in half to show exactly how they're made, spoiler the docs were very very bad

people wear Doc Martens for style. And i think it wins in the department. Doc Martens also comes in other forms like safety boots, more premium leather. Also Timberland were originally safety boots, but i dont see many buying it as safety boots anymore. Same goes for Doc Martens. So its all down to battle of styles. And i think Doc Martens are more stylish. and its iconic.

I've got 2 timberland boots but the sole expired after not using it for a time I ask timberland to send me the sole since its new........ But they never send me.......... I got it repaired but the sole is doc martens...... It looks so good better that the original timberland

I have a black pair of Tim's and love them . Great rain day boots in toronto. My feet are always dry . I would never wear Doc's. Terrible.

Neither boot can be rebuilt to factory specifications. A good cobbler can recraft both. Neither are worth the money for a resole. The advantage to the Dr. Martens is the Goodyear welt. A good cobbler can simply cut the yellow stitch, then remove the welt, the sole, and the foam or felt padding. Then he could sew on a leather welt, add a shank, fill the shoe with cork, stitch a leather midsole on, and add any style of sole and heel. A good cobbler could cut off the worn part of the Timberland sole, sand it down smooth & flat, then glue on a new sole. With both of these boots, it's cheaper to buy a brand new pair.

I have a mini collection of Dr Martens and I also have a pair of 6 inch premium Heritage Timberland boots in classic burnt orange worn oiled leather, and although I love both, I much prefer Doc's over Timberland's 👍 My youngest pair of doc's are 2 years old this month and my eldest and first pair will be a decade old in November and have held up very well 👌 And then my most worn pair of Doc's in my collection which are my Jadon's are still going strong, even after being worn hard by me and they'll be 3 year old on boxing day.

shoe tongue in Timberland can damage your foot . I hated my timbs because of that, then cut out small piece and it became better, but it is still not the most comfortable shoe anyway. E.g. compare to Levis pair which are like a room slippers. Design of timbs is great, but I need much more comfort

Timberland all the way. I kind of like how Doc Martens look, but that's about it. I think the Made in England ones have better leather than Timbs, but otherwise they're still not very good.

Docs all day I started wearing them back in the day just cuz they are popular in the punk rock look and awesome foot wear in a fight, my best brawls in high school I had a pair of Docs on. We misfits fight a lot.

I don’t think these 2 boots are comparable in any shape or form. I’m in the UK and DM’s here have a long history of being punk, anti establishment and non conformist footwear. They’re known for being a bit ugly and edgy and that’s why we wear them. Timberland on the other hand to us look like something a Canadian lumberjack would wear. Not fashionable at all and something you would only wear if there were a foot of snow on the ground (which never happens here).

We choose Docs for the look of them, not because they are the best value or the most comfortable. Timberlands are ugly. Also, why compare the premium version of one shoe with regular version of another? Should have compared the made in England version of the Docs...
