In the original script, Gilliam wrote "The warrior takes of his helmet revealing someone that looks like Sean Connery or an actor of equal but cheaper stature." He never thought he'd be able to attract Sean to the project for the right price but he loved the idea so agreed.

It should be noted that David Warner said playing evil in this movie was by far the most fun he ever had in his career. The movie was a comedy but Warner played it like King Lear at the globe, which added to the hilarity. God I miss the people in this movie. It’s kind will rarely be seen in this reality again.

Cleese as a Python-esque Robin Hood is absurdly hysterical. Also, speaking of "floating heads," I'd recommend "The Adventures of Baron Munchausen," Starring John Neville, with Eric Idle, Oliver Reed, Jonathan Pryce, Uma Thurman, and Robin Williams. Co-written and directed by "Python-alum" Terry Gilliam. And yet another story from the "Python-verse," - "Erik the Viking," starring Tim Robbins, John Cleese, and Terry Gilliam. Directed by another MP founder, Terry Jones.

The song at the end is Dream Away by George Harrison, co-founder of Handmade Films which produced Time Bandits, among many other films, beginning with The Life of Brian. A lot of the Pythons appeared in various Handmade films during the 10 years or so they were fully active. Cleese would also appear in Privates on Parade; Palin in The Missionary and A Private Function, with Eric Idle appearing in the final Harrison-era Handmade film, Nuns on the Run. Terry Gilliam designed the distinctive company logo, although he never received payment for it, which is why he never made another film for them. Of his films, Jabberwocky is a good one, with Michael Palin as the main lead. MP also appears in TG's Brazil as a darker character. The Adventures of Baron Munchausen is next, with Idle in a supporting role. Gilliam would go on to make The Fisher King, Twelve Monkeys and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas in the 1990s, with more films in the 2000s onwards, but I don't want to bore you. Another Cleese film you might be interested in is Clockwise from 1985, while Terry Jones would make Personal Services, Wind in the Willows and Absolutely Anything before his death. The other dead Python, Graham Chapman, would make two films: The Odd Job and Yellowbeard, the latter of which having appearances from Cleese and Idle. Those two would appear together in another film, Idle's own Splitting Heirs. I think I've rambled on long enough now; sorry about that.

Fidget was played by Kenny Baker who was the actor in the R2D2 "suit" in Star Wars. Wally was Jack Purvis who was a acting buddy with Kenny. He also played in Star Wars as various aliens. Best known as the Jawa that shoots R2 and disables him. So in effect, Jack shot Kenny. Jack died a horrible death early in his life when his car crushed him while working on it. This is one of the few films that actually treated dwarf actors as actors and not just some cute people for people to laugh at.

The ensemble of little people, led by actor David Rappaport, had great chemistry and I loved their comedic roles. I wish more movies could've been made with those actors. They all did a great job. From Mr. Gilliam: “We got to the end of the film, we really didn’t have a good ending,” Gilliam recalls. “Then I remembered my first conversation with Sean and he said wouldn’t it be great if he played the fireman. He happened to be in London, he was a tax exile then, he had one day to see his accountant. I said, ‘Could you stop be the studio?’ So he stopped by the studio and I put him in a fireman’s outfit and did two shots- one where he puts the boy down and winks and then he climbs in the cab, shuts the door, winks. That was it! I didn’t write the scene until a month later. We shot with doubles the whole end sequence and it works.” So, basically No Real Ending + Kevin's Parents Not All That Great to Begin With + Agamemnon = Typical Bizarre Gilliam Ending

Soooo nice to hear you talk. Was disappointed about the lack of pythonese players in this film. But they were just supporting cast to Kevin and the bandits. And we did get the George Harrison ending so it wasn't bad. The Robin hood scene and you doing the Dennis Moore song reminded me of my favorite Robin hood tv show. "Robin hood, Robin hood, riding through the Glen. Robin hood, Robin hood, with his band of men. Feared by the bad, loved by the good. Robin hood, Robin hood, Robin hood." Ralph Richardson, the Supreme being, played a sorcerer in a Disney movie that was a great influencer for Dragons yet to come. "Dragonslayer". Sean Connery was the voice of a dragon, "dragonheart". Evil genius guy, David Warner, gets to be time traveling "jack the ripper" pursued by HG Wells in "time after time". Great job Dawn. I've been wanting to get my copy out for some time now. You with your tinted glasses wanted more Michael and willed him into Sean's skin. Brilliant! Gotta go love.

It captures this adventurous, fun wonderment, and does it in such a charming, clever way that really stands the test of time.

Footsteps Editor is an outmoded term for a foley effects editor who sources newly-recorded sound effects specific to the action onscreen like footsteps, stabbing (usually accomplished by sticking knives in watermelons) after the dubbing editor has already sourced existing sound effects from the post production studio’s library.

Terry Gilliam also wrote and directed " Jabberwocky" with Michael Palin and Terry Jones which is a fantasy comedy and many other comedians of the period, definitely worth a watch

You might recognise some of the other cast members: - The Compare who brings Kevin's parents to the evil being is the hilarious Jim Broadbent aka Professor Slugworth from Harry Potter, plus numerous other stuff. - Michael Palin's sweetheart, Pansey, with the huge... is Shelley Duvall who was also in Stephen King's the Shining, played Olive Oil in the Popeye movie and was the lead in Woody Allen's movie 'Annie Hall' - The Ogre is Peter vaughan, aka Grouty from Porridge. - The Evil being, David Warner has been in load of stuff including Titanic and the Hornblower series. - Kevin's dad David Daker is best known for 80s TV series Boon with Michael Elphick. - Evil's stupid henchman is the wonderfully named derek Deadman who is known for playing incredibly thick characters in loads of comedies. He was also Tom the landlord in the Harry Potter films.

"And you're a robber too. How long have you been a robber?" "Four foot one." "Good lord! Jolly good. Four foot one? Well that-that-that is-is- a long time, isn't it?"

Really good reaction....canny remember if you have reacted to Labyrinth but you will love it. Another good Pythonesque epic but with Jim Henson puppets and David Bowie.

I would have loved to see an entire tv series based around Sean playing Agamemnon (who has a tragic end of course). If I ever perfect my alternate reality travelling deivce then I will do so! (I'f i'm really lucky, I'll get to an alternate dimension where Sean IS king Agamemnon) 😀

Sean Connery, Ian Holm and Jim Broadbent all in the same movie. It's a treat. Michael Palin and John Cleese make it so much better by being thrown into the mix as well.

Films with sea monsters? There are some real classics, like 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, The Adventures of Sinbad or Jason and the Argonauts. Some of these had special effects by Ray Harryhausen, who was *the* pioneer of stop-motion animation. Oh, yes, and there was another big name in Time Bandits : Sir Ian Holm as Napoleon Bonaparte (although this was before he was knighted). He was Bilbo in the Peter Jackson films of The Lord of the Rings.

One of the former Beatles, George Harrison, helped finance this movie and rescued it from not being made at all! He was a friend of Terry Giiliams and the Monty Python Gang.

Deep Star Six is a sea monster movie. Basically Alien on the ocean floor. Deep Rising is also about a sea monster. Deep Blue Sea is about genetically engineered intelligent sharks. I haven't seen Leviathan, but I think it's about a sea monster, too. Then, of course, there's Humanoids From The Deep, Creature From the Black Lagoon, and Horror of Party Beach...
