I've always felt either skinny or fat. Part of my problem is being impatient and either cutting calories significantly, or eating everything in sight. In the long run I think adding on some weight will only benefit my strength, let's find out!

still muscle to be made? bro...test, deca, anadrol...switch to the uspa, quit your job, do RU-vid full time, divorce the wife, join grinder, really live out your final years... assuming of course that you only have 5-10 left. I believe in you

Good choice Brandoouuun! I'm 6'2 myself, walk around 236, doing a meet in one week at 105kg, but decided to move on up to the 120kg class after that. As they say: "if you're the tallest dude in your weight class, you're in the wrong weight class"

We're exactly the same, we don't wanna pile on the calories in the chase for the gains due to fear of gaining too much fat. The slow struggle continues! Always amazes us when people pile the weight on so quickly without any real strength progression. Nice vid as ever B 💪💪

I feel your pain man. I've been contemplating the same thing. I compete at 74kg being 5'10 I figured that was pretty average, until I went to my first meet and towered over my competition.

This is exactly how I feel. I am 6'3 and currently weight 240 and trying to get down to 225-230lbs. At my biggest I was 250 and solid and strong. At my lightest I was 230 and could see abs and could lift and run, everything needed for the military. Now I am trying to get back to that 230 weight.

The scale is amazing! Had one for a while and love it. I am in the same predicament, 6'4" and walk around 225, and compete at 220. My issue is I also own a CF gym and need to set an example for my members by staying in somewhat decent condition. I also am not married yet so I have to keep things tight until I lock something down.
@BasementBrandon

Haha I know that feeling. I think one of the reasons I'm going to not worry about weight is this is one of the first summers we wont' be spending a lot of time at the beach since the wifey is 9 months pregnant.

awesome man! I'm on the same page. I'm 5'11" and train for powerlifting and olympic weightlifting. for the longest time I was in the 85kg weight bracket. let me tell ya, my progress sacked ass! now that I'm gaining muscle, I'm noticing a big difference. short term goal is 94kg in the next few years. long term goal is 105kg in about a decade or so. I know what to do to get there. going to be a lot of eating a decade. but when I get there, I know I'll be at my best. wish I would have been gaining weight in high school. I graduated at 135 pounds. so I've already put on 60 pounds sincethen. 30 more to go!

I've always been a fan of staying as close to my natural weight... it's healthier to be lighter... and continue to get stronger at that weight... the science of getting stronger without getting bigger is more impressive... IMO.

Brandon Campbell Diamond just looking for a simple slow weight cut. First goal is 88kg then see if I want to go further. or stay where I am. I think I would be too light if I cut all the way down to the 83's. so might just end up a light guy in the 93's.

If you're 6'4" and 231lb I'd say you could definitely benefit from moving up a weight class, anyone who's 5'10-11" and filled out the 231 class is just going to have a huge advantage of terms of the muscle they can carry over you and still make weight. If I didn't have about 10-15lbs of loose skin after my weight loss I'd maybe be able to pull off a 230lb weight, but I'm only have a training age of like 3y6m with probably about 6m of dead time during that, so I could easily mostly fill out the 262lb class after a few more years and I'm only 6'1".

Hey Brandon I just had a quick question because I myself am a pretty lanky guy. I am around 6 feet and since I am an Indian its pretty good as per Indian standards. I myself face some problems. Like for example I am a very good squatter. I make it look easy but my legs look like 2 straws and even though I am a powerlifter, it still bothers me that I basically struggle to put muscle on my unending legs. So how do I come out of this or should I just close my eyes and keep progressing hoping that my biomechanics could take care of itself? Also how different would it be when a tall guy does the 3 lifts and when a short guy does those 3 lifts?
@BasementBrandon
@BasementBrandon 7 лет назад
I think genetics still play the biggest role on what we look like and our potential, that being said, I'd focus on progressing your strength if that's your main goal. If you just desire size, it might be about adjusting your training to cater towards promoting hypertrophy.
@genericteen
@genericteen 7 лет назад
You should definitely go up a weight class, I've been consistent for 10 months and weigh 102kg at 6' and can see myself struggling to keep within that in the future If you got heavier all your leverages would improve and so would your strength, just eat what you do right now but add in a liquid meal or something?

@BasementBrandon

You can, depends on a bunch of factors of course, plus both of those things take a decent amount of time to actually see a difference. I'd just be weary of going into too big of a surplus.

Join me bald brother in the parillo style diet for bulking. Read purposeful primitive if you haven't already. One thing I got from that book was something that a powerlifter said in terms of strength. He said to maximize your strength and your leverages you need to fill out your frame/height. I'm in the process of doing exactly what you're about to do. I'm 6'1.5 and just recompped to cut some fat. Sitting around 213lbs. But my own version of the Parillo style diet has been doing wonders in adding lean poundage to me instead of bacon fat and flab.

@BasementBrandon
@BasementBrandon 7 лет назад
What are those?
@prince0fsains
@prince0fsains 7 лет назад
I know you know what GHRs & GMs are, so I'll assume it's double paused squats. It's something I came up with (I've never seen it or heard of it before). Pause squats only build strength in the hole. It's great, but doesn't always address failures above parallel. That's where these come in. Squat down into the hole, pause, break parallel, pause at a place that has been giving you trouble or just change the position from time to time for variation, then lock out. It not only creates starting strength from multiple positions, but creates a ridiculous amount of tension & time under tension. Negating the effects of momentum makes you really effing strong. I usually do a set of 6, 4 and 3. Each set only increases 5kg (currently; oh, repping that kilo life, lol). I do the set of 6 mainly for mental stamina. It's just hard as hell, especially after running 5 sets of 3 @ 80% a la Sheiko.

125kg would be a good weight class for you given your frame. Check-out Pisarenko.

Man all you can do is push it and love the roller coaster. People stress too much about the macro thing and honestly people at our age aren't twenty like these know it alls we see out there. Here's my advice. Throw on Metallica and push like you hate it and enjoy it. Win or lose you won. You're videos are much more worthwhile than you know.

Thanks dude! My worry about gaining too much too quick also has to do with potentially changing leverages, but we'll see what happens.

So, the scale had you at 19%. I know you probably don't care as much about such things but do you think your actual BF would be above or below that? I would think your more around 14-15
@BasementBrandon

I think likely somewhere in between that. 17% or so?

Did you ever speak to your doctor about this? Why you're able to lift the weight you do yet not end up bulking up automatically. You are probably just naturally "Strong". yet might be low in T-cells? Some one said that "taller guys" (e.g. 6'3+ are usually more lean and would find it harder to put on mass. Though there are the exceptions who are probably "using". A given (e.g. Fitness models, Pro bodybuilders...don't know about pro powerlifters..but most pro athletes use IMHO). An example is the actor from Rocky 4 Dolph Lundgren. He's around your height. Between 6'4-6'-5. While still fairly muscular in the film he still looked a little on the "leaner side of muscular". I wouldn't consider myself "strong (e.g. naturally strong...be able to lift more than the average person even w/o training before hand, not being athletic...). But when I began watching my diet and working out I could see myself bulking up at a "reasonable rate". Vs. some guys that could put on as much muscle or more in half the time....w/o any "aid" (steroids/GH). Also, I'm no in my 20's any more so that comes into play but lets say that I can bench the weight I should be for fit guys in my age range. I'm just not putting on mass and getting shredded fast. Or as quick as "strong guys". Who would have better genetic as far as athletics go. Though, the guys we met and consider strong...we don't know if they're not using as well (the odd mutant in the gym). I'm not aiming to get stronger but build a better physique. A better version of me.

I get my testosterone checked every year as part of my yearly physical. I'm still within what's considered average. I think part of the issue with perception is most people just aren't aware what's attainable natural and what's not. That being said, genetics play a huge role in what you look like (and what you're able to look like) with training.
