I'm an old guy and remember all the work Steve Martin did decades ago. Whenever I watch him nowadays, still think his stand-up is genius and his timing and performance are flawless. The guy is legend.
I’m a 28yr old woman and I thank my mum endlessly for raising me on Steve Martin’s work. I truly believe it gave me an up humour wise and that I understand jokes a little differently to others (be it good or bad).

Indeed he is absolutely one of the geniuses of his generation...favorite moment (the band screwed it up by coming in too fast) "Here is a man who needs no introduction, (looks at hands, walks off stage)." OMG!!?!?!?? How brilliant is that? And it has been waiting for Steve Martin (of some other brilliant comedian) for 100 years, at least! Just brilliant!

I am from Spain and love Tina Fey!! she is amazing and hope she gets more prizes, but I do not understand why she got life prize being so way young here ... no old funny people anymore??
I do not like it. It is perfect. It hurts me from laughing. And the jokes - have nearly always a secret fun hidden a message we did not know before. But i LOVE it. Thank You! She certainly deserves it.
At some point someone said, women aren't funny, can't make people laugh, and I don't know who did but Tina and many others have shattered that myth, she is hilarious.

Imagine being such an incredible genius that proving atoms exist - more than 2000 years after Democritus proposed the idea - wasn't the most incredible thing you did, and in fact most people didn't even know you'd done it, because it paled in comparison to your other work!? Oh, yeah, and he gave us the particle theory of light, which led to quantum mechanics and is the foundation on which modern physics is built...
In Einsteins "miracle year" - 1905 - he released 4 transformative papers, and when he finally got the noble prize it was for the photoelectric effect, not relativity!
I’ve never understood why Tina Fey, at her young age was given this award when Robin Williams was a comedic genius all his life and wasn’t given this award.
She’s actually one of the first women of comedy, so it’s not random at all that she be here. What is a travesty, though, is that *she herself* was never awarded the Mark Twain prize. It’s a glaring oversight, I blame the recipient choosers (whom I’m sure were all men when Betty was in her prime during the MTM show years…). Damned patriarchy!
Lorne Michaels makes it seems as if he's reading a script someone else wrote for him, and this is the first time he's seen it. I found that to be incredibly rude and classless; demeaning and insulting. Tina Fey's writing was the only reason that dumpster fire of a TV show remained on the air. I really can't stand that guy. He may be the most overrated individual in the history of entertainment.

Yeah, laughing during the middle other people's work and screwing everything up is quite a talent. He's also really, really good at smoothing over fascism and white nationalism and making it palatable for the masses.

Is it me, or is it actually quite sad that folk of a certain ilk give other folk of the same ilk prices… and everyone shows up for it… people have no shame… it’s just so lame… I remember once being voted the most promising field hockey player in my youth… there was one of these dos, and I had toestand in front of all of these people where this guy took me for a walk whist singing my praises… I immediately thought ‘this is what hell looks like’ it was so embarrassing and awkward… brrr talk about nothingness…

Tina Fey is a super-intelligent comedian, both demonstrated in her writing and in her comedic performance. Perhaps her comedy goes over your head. Adam Sandler’s comedy is coarser/broader, he can be sensitive but usually he goes overboard with the gross factor, appealing to young male movie-goers. Maybe that’s your taste, nothing wrong with that 👍🏻.

All of the nominations and wins for comedic writing and performing, the success of her autobiography and the popularity of the long running Broadway play that she wrote suggests your opinions are bunk.
