With lots of our sewing patterns including needlecord and corduroy as recommended fabrics, you may have already guessed that we loooove corduroy here at Tilly and the Buttons.
Corduroy is great for making dungaree dresses, skirts, trousers and jackets. Try the super comfy Erin dunagrees, seventies-inspired Jessa jeans, or our best-selling Cleo pinafore. Finer needlecord is also lovely for shirts and dresses, such as the Rosa shirt or Lyra dress.

Thank you for this video. What size and type of needle do you use for this fabric?

Use a needle to match the weight of the fabric. I'm using jumbo whale and will be using either 14 or 16 universal.

Should I wash the fabric before sewing?

Yes, it's a cotton. I typically wash all my clothes with cold water settings, and some things I tumble dry with low heat. So that's how I pre-wash my cotton fabrics. That way they shrink what they're going to shrink with those settings. You can pre-wash in warm water to be on the safe side with the shrinkage. But cotton and linen fabrics should be pre-washed for sure. I think rayon shrinks a lot, too, but it's always good look it up. I just don't like using rayon and such, so i don't know for sure.
