Yes I know I ignored Bulbmin. I was thinking that they’re rare and don’t appear in the Dream Den. Didn’t explain it well. And I started reading the Captain journals shortly after this video came out, and now realize how deep Olimar is. How do I justify these mistakes? In all fairness, this was an old video…
Considering how a dweevil's behavior changes depending on what has. Maybe when Louie found the titan dweevil it grabbed him and put him on his head. And due to Louie's already weird connection with bugs and the behavioral changes for dweevils, the titan dweevil starting to get bitter like Louie, but it got aggressive since it has weapons.
That sounds interesting. Louies slight spite for Olimar after being left on PNF-404, was twisted and mutated into dreams of cruelty by the Titan dweevil. As the ship noted, Louie was unconscious. Louie wasn't controlling the beast, his thoughts were being used by IT.
I always thought it was less that Louie was commanding the Titan Dweevil to attack, and more so that the Titan Dweevil was like the Plasm Wraith, where it finds Louie and it's like "Oh, the king of bugs", and it uses its life to defend him. Titan Dweevils only ever play defense, and coming after Louie is something it sees as an attack that needs defending against
I think that’s exactly the case, considering Louie was passed out before and after the whole fight. Their suits have that sleep mode whenever something bad happens, with olimar continuously falling out of consciousness due to constantly trying to get away
So with the release of 4 (spoilers) Louie basically does all he did because he didn’t wanna leave pnf-404. He finds the place to be a massive buffet and he loves to eat the monsters ingame. I think he simply stayed behind in pikmin 2 rather than being forgotten because why would he leave a place that is full of so many delicious beasts. (Spoilers for 4 here) it is basically confirmed in 4 that he does not want to go home, and he actively fights against the notion, calling the resistance “a bother” and wishes he could just be alone so he can spend his days cooking up the monsters. It’s his paradise and he does not want to leave
The Man-at-Legs has a similar situation going on, but instead of an alien parasite on its head, it has a machine gun in its torso that fires away on its own at anything that comes close, despite the docile nature of the bug itself. The Man-at-Legs also doesn't have Pikmin-crushing feet or mandables to devour them, and as Olimar points out, it has no natural enemies and doesn't actively try to hurt anything around it, but whenever it stops moving, apparently just to catch its breath, the gun just decides that it's needed and pops out, opening fire beyond the control of its "wielder." It's honestly unclear if the MaL is even a living thing anymore or if it's just a few organic legs attached to a robotic fascimile of a long legs family member, because even one of said legs is metallic.
_Technically..._ almost every enemy in the game is immune to the elements. Every single one... Bulborbs can walk through fire, water, electricity, and even poison (and its even followed up on with the Bulbmin being immune to every element as well) But I think that's probably more of a gameplay thing rather than a lore fact.
I think it could be a military experiment, as Olimar states that the Subterranean Complex was likely an ancient military base. I could be entirely wrong though, it's not unheard of to see the explorers from Pikmin missing the point of ancient human inventions.
Theres several other mechanized creatures in Pikmin 2. Most notably the Gatling Groink. For how they get their weapons? Unclear. The Gatling Groink can be plausible. Either developing an iron shell on parts of its body, and silica for the windshield. Its not unheard of, theres iron shelled snails, and most all tiny sea life has glass cell membranes. The Man-At-Legs is more confusing. He couldnt have just picked up a gun, they are tiny! It would be extremely bizarre to think it just happened across a 1 inch gun. Its quite possible it could have just found a metal sphere and adhered itself to it. And that it has small limbs to manipulate things within that shell. Its quite possible it even creates its own projectiles. But the fact it fires like a gun, and has a freaking laser sight throws me for a loop. Hopefully we get more information in Pikmin 4, he did make a brief appearance in the trailer.
@@pauldeddens5349 My guess? Military experiment. Probably some covert assassination thing that crawls through vents and shoots people. Though given how it seems to desperately be gasping for air whenever it stops moving, well... in the words of Adam Jensen, "I never asked for this."
I think the reason why it attacks you is because of territorial reasons. By entering Titan's room, it can be seen from the monster's perspective as you invading its territory. This would also explain why it still attacks you even if you rescued louie and left the weapons there. As for why it wasn't hostile towards him, I think it's possible that he could somehow have befriended titan and thus it was trying to protect him when you arrived. Considering titan is able to use those weapons very effectively, it's definitely safe to assume that titans are an extremely intelligent species and have a fair chance of having emotions. If this is the case than it actually makes titan losing him sad.
This was a very good video! Thoroughly enjoyed watching it! I am so glad that Pikmin is becoming more mainstream! Also, even if Olimar is pretty straight forward, I still love the guy. Seeing the world through his eyes as he is struggling to survive to see his family again in the first game is what made me care about him. Then his commentary on all the treasures and biology breakdown of the enemies in Pikmin 2 made him all the more interesting. He is both a relatable family man and a very scientific mind. I just really like him.
My general thought is that the Titan Dweevil is mostly just territorial. When someone invades an animal's territory (say, me walking towards a pack of geese) they feel the need to defend that territory. And since the Titan Dweevil can't really *leave* its cave it flips the hell out and starts attacking Olimar because it feels it's under attack.
Honestly it’s pretty interesting that Louie here acts as a corruption of Olimar Where as Olimar cares for the pikmin and naturally becomes their leader by helping them climb the food chain Louie takes the Titian dweevil proclaims himself it’s leader to take vengeance and he clearly doesn’t care for it
1:09 Actually the Gatling Groink did reappear in Hey Pikmin but it's a different species called the Fireflinger Groink also Hey Pikmin was a pretty good game in my opinion.
Hey pikmin is exactly was it is, 2d mobile pikmin, nothing earth shattering and on the topic of the fireflinger groink I actually really loved how hey pikmin added new species to obscure one off enemies
I have my own theory: so reading Olimar logs it says the Titan Dwevil was actually be predatory in nature and often looks for weapons to hunt as the it lacks actual battle skill otherwise acording to Olimar log, Olimar also mentions that The Titan Dwevil actually picked up Louie cause he saw his light as nice looking though Louie must have confused this as him somehow taiming the monster, it’s also said the Titan Dwevil was not being directly controlled by Louie it’s said all species of Dwevils changed behavior depending on what they have in there heads there behavior so considering Louie was probably angry at Olimar it may resulted in the Dwevil becoming more angry and evil paired with its weapons on its head made it more deadly
Louie is canonically a sociopath, and always has been. I haven't played "Pikmin IV", but I think the mutated Hocotatians in the trailers (the ones covered in leaves) are experiments performed by Louie. If I'm right, please tag your spoilers.
the characters in pikmin are some of the best most well designed & deep characters ever and if i see you saying stuff like that again i will explode you
Personally, I think Louie will end up being the final boss of Pikmin 4, and figure out a way to control an insect species in a similar way to Pikmin. Edit: I was half-right. I'll take it.
Louie is not a villain, at least it's more believable that he's not to me, he was unconscious when he was on the titan dweevil's head There's a theory that, since dweevils mimic the objects on their head, the titan dweevil took Louie's feelings of being left behind, and the weapons on it's head, and turned it into a rampage The reason it put Louie on it's head is because it liked his shiny antenna, and Louie probably thought he tamed the monster since it didn't immediately eat him, and that's why he wanted to be referred to as the "king of bugs", since he used to have a kinship with bugs Heres a video better explaining it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WALk-Fg22-g.html
i believe that the reason it changes color when attacking is probably so it can resist the attack because you said no creature can survive all four hazards at once
1:57 I just had the strangest theory... Moss. What if that thing is somehow moss? As we know pikmin 4 created a timeline split, and is effectively the new pikmin 2. But we also know that water wraiths are cross dimensional beings, its not out of the question that perhaps plasm wraiths are as well somehow cross-dimensional. But this is where the theory comes in, what if Moss at some point after the events of pikmin 4 finds herself split across dimensions, becoming the plasm wraith? She had always just kind of done what isnt obviously best for the situation but what she thought was right (taking Louie's orders, taking our pikmin, etc) so the plasm wraiths behavior does match something that Moss would do. Heck the plasm wraith might have been trying to get olimar to an onion to make him a leafling, thinking his life support had gone offline.
I honestly would have preferred it if Louie followed behind Luigi a little more and had his colors green. Not only to be an opposite to Olimar but to show his similarities to the bulbmin, who have green lights. I can't help but see him act as a "green Pikmin" when he mind controls the final boss. It is also a nice parallel with symbiotic relationships, Olimar has mutualism with the Pikmin, where both parties benefit, while Louie found his own connection with the King Dweevil as parasitism, where the king Dweevil was actively getting abused by Louie while Louie benefited. I should also point out that the Pikmin and King Dweevil are parallels by the fact that they both are extremely defenseless and require assistance to survive.
I was wondering if the badniks could get a character quest, considering how Sonic completely murders them with no remorse and yet he gets away with it completely (it was even shown in the Sonic 1 opening of Sonic Origins where a group of Moto Bugs were terrified of Sonic and attempted to run away from him before he mercilessly killed them). I also think covering their role in the Archie comics and Sonic the Comic would be neat as well, since they give the badniks far more depth and having extremely tragic moments in both comics (IDW doesn’t really do that much sadly).
And what do you know? Spoiler below for Pikmin 4. He ends up controlling the Ancient Sirehound, the ancestor to all space dogs including Oatchi and Moss, to do his bidding. Thankfully unlike the Titan Dweevil, the sirehound gets a happy ending.
Like another comment said, I’ve always gone with the idea that Louie was actually trying to kill Olimar and the President because he’s known for being a chaotic neutral character like asshole, none of us would put it past Louie to do that, and that the only reason they rescued him and continued to let him go on expeditions with Olimar and keep his job is because A they need workers and B more employees means more money for the President, Pikmin 2 is my favorite Pikmin game for its challenge, music, characters, and atmosphere, and it’s always been a most comedic of the 3, so having the gag with Louie trying to kill you for no reason fits with the games creatively weird humor, like the pacifier treasure description from Olimar. Louie also being conscious and controlling the Titan Dweevil is also heavily backed up by Olimar’s notes on him, and the Ships sales pitch for him
I am personally a big fan of the Titan Dweevil, it's hard as nails to do it without losing Pikmin, and the boss theme as it progresses. It's that king of bugs that I hope returns because of how beautiful it is. However, I think there's more to "Loui controls the Titan" thing, and it involves the goolex, aka the water wraith aka plasma wraith, this also invokes the Pikmin 1 final boss. After the goolex crash landed on planet, it tried fighting olimar, fails, takes over an larva on "forgot name" spring, and tries to fight olimar AGAIN, fails, and tries one last time to stop olimar by taking over emperor bulbblax. Then, after evolving to the water wraith, after it's encounter with the Loui and Olimar, a piece of it ended up inside Loui, and once olimar left Loui behind, the water wraith inside Loui searches for some strong bug to use as a weapon until olimar's return. The reason I say this is because the goolex the larva, the emperor, the wraith, the Titan and the plasma, do not have a soul leave their bodies when destroyed, not only that but a body doesn't get left behind either! If the water wraith did take over the Titan, it would explain why it's evolved form has abilities of all Pikmin elements (of said game), it evolved to learn and use the elements to whatever it sees fit. Loui is still a piece of Garbo for eating the gold pikpik carrots tho.
After giving it some thought, Louie just saw that Olimar and the ship left him behind on a planet filled with fiery pigs, electric bugs, giant creatures, a bug with a machine gun, and a nightmare on rollers, so it makes sense that he'd be so hostile towards the people that left him. And now he's only causing chaos by being dumb and food obsessed
May thought was that the Titan Dweevil is protecting Louie. It’s said that Louie is unconscious I believe, so controlling it makes no sense. I think it’s possibly similar to Pikmin 3 and how the Plasm Wraith views olimar and trying to protect him. Also similar to the Wraith, you are provoking it by stepping on top of it so it’s possible that it’s instinct is to attack the threat. The reason why it protects Louie is because Louie is a bug whisperer, you see it in real life too where some animals are attached to specific people and only them.
While the game states Louie is responsible, in gameplay, it actually is the Titan Dweevil. If you defeat it and collect Louie but leave the weapons, the next time you enter the dungeon, the Titan Dweevil will have reclaimed the weapons. And despite Louie not being present, it will still attack you.
And in Pikmin 4, from what I hear, he found something w o r s e. Louis at this point is just An Agent of Chaos. Who knows why he's like this, but whatever the reason I suspect we don't actually want to know. And I honestly don't think we like what it is at all. Also you know your in for a real scary final boss fight in a video game when the names of the final area of the game unlocked has the word Dream in it. Because it is either where you accomplish your dream and finish the game . . . or where you're dreams go to die. They say an Old Dog can't learn new tricks but what you should really be worried about is one that learns them from the King of Bugs. (⭕) (⭕) \/W\/ /\MM/\
You know it reminds me of this thing in Australia where a dingo ate a baby but the mother was arrested for eating her baby to not affect the tourism. This time the titan dweeble is to be blamed because as you can see in the mail the president (me and my friends refer to him as Choochoo) choochoo has a bias for Louie.
the titan dweevil could also be a wraith. They’re just about the only creatures that melt into goop when defeated (just look at the plasm wraith’s copies). This isn’t to say that all dweevils are wraiths but the rather strangely docile nature and intelligence (enough intelligence to use the treasure) could hunt towards it being a wraith or wraith mimic.
I wouldn't say the titan dweevil its completely innocent here. If you don't pick up the four weapons and only take Louie. Another titan dweevil takes it place and just as deadly when you return
