This is a review of a Titan TTB430VAC 1400w shop vac that I purchased from Screwfix for wet vacuuming my swimming pool cover. I think it is a great tool for the price.

Well done Russell you did not fight with the bags and filter etc! You actually said to fit the bags unlike another hapless fellow's video! My housekeeper came in the other day and said that it was blowing dust out through the exhaust port. It turned out that this was set up for a wet vac! The big filter was not there or any dust bags either! Np chance! So I turned to your excellent video and now that I have a clue I am ordering the bags and a new filter! No doubt the original "Stuff" may turn up one fine day but for now I will order new "Stuff"! Thank you Russell for your kind help! Rob of Halmore, Gloucestershire, England.

It looks like Screwfix have discontinued this model and now sell the Titan TTB785VAC, which has a slightly higher wet capacity, but a smaller dry capacity (why they would reduce that is anybody's guess). It's slimmer and taller, with a longer power cable. Everything else appears to be much the same, and it's the same price, so on the basis of your review of this model I think I will definitely be buying the newer one. Thanks for a very informative, no-nonsense video. Excellent.

Hi Russell, great review, and agree completely with everything you say about the unit. I’ve got the same vac, and like you I found the tools to be somewhat lacking! My initial solution was to change the connector for a Henry screw type, and a set of hoses with steel tubes. This seems to work so much better, as the internal tube has a lip to prevent the bags coming off. Another Titan fault! This also allows the use of Henry bags, which have a better rubber collar, and can be cheaper than the Titan bags. Mainly I find it’s the taper that allows the tubes to fit together (on the Titan), if they had used the larger hose assembly from the larger units (we have a Shopvac which is bang on) there wouldn’t be an issue. It appears to be so much better now, but if I could find a larger hose and connector I may try that, although the suction maybe reduced if too large! I see they have a newer model now and wonder if any of these issues have been addressed? But as you say, it’s an extremely cheap and powerful unit either way.

I had a look around for fittings and a hose to replace mine too, but could not find anything to fit. For the money it is good value, but it could easily be improved! :-)

@@martyjoiner4668 It will probably work Marty, but the filter will clog very quickly and require constant cleaning exposing you to dust. My advice would be to use a bag. The bags last way longer than you expect them to and are much better for your lungs.

Just stumbled on this video as about to buy the new TTB777 Vac model from Screwfix. Really well made video! I’ve got same evolution mitre saw as you but I don’t think will work with the vac as the wattage is higher than the max allowed. A quick question if I may - I’ve been doing a bit of tape and joint plastering recently and as a novice DIYer tend to have a fair bit excess to sand down which is incredibly dusty. Even with PPE it still feels like I’m inhaling the stuff. Is there a set up with this vac that effectively will just help to keep the air clean in this type of environment? Perhaps just turning it on without the hose attached?
@RussellPlatten

The way to keep the dust down would be to use a powered sander with the vacuum attached Chris. Definitely make sure you are wearing a mask. :-)

How does that compare with the Nilfisk I've seen you use before. I have a Draper 50L W&D shop vac with steel tubes and a 5m hose that I have used for cleaning out gutters quite successfully as well as general cleaning and dust collection for woodworking tools and my Bosch Track saw. It's not my only shop vac, but I do prefer the metal tubes on the Draper.
@RussellPlatten
@RussellPlatten 4 года назад
I would not spend the extra money on the Nilfisk. This vac does everything the Nikfisk does. The only issue I have with it is the quality of the attachments. It is not as well made as the Nilfisk, but it gets the job done. :-)

@@RussellPlatten Thanks for the reply. Seems we aren't the only ones - I have still not found the answer though note that the Numatic wet/dry vacs are also over the 900w limit. I guess if you call it an extraction system you can do what you like. Many years ago I was involved in the software of a large automatic electroplating system that held, amongst other things, 1800 litres of cyanide solution and I believe the extraction system for that used about 28kW.

It seems all the big brands aside from Shark make shite overpriced hoovers although I don't think it helps that the EU limits wattage for whatever reason. Is this really good for dust extraction? I bought a Sealey wet and dry vac a few yrs ago and worst purchase ever! When I'm vacuuming dust, plaster dust from sanding etc and the rear exhaust on the Sealey ( blow function ) just after a bit pumps the dust out into the room 😬 🤯 ..absolutely useless machine ....so looking for a much better wet & dry vac with effective dust extraction that actually stays in the canister. I was looking at the 41 titan model or Nilfsk vacuums ....
@RussellPlatten
@RussellPlatten 4 года назад
Hi Martyn. I can vouch for the Nilfisk as I have used mine for a number of years. The Titan seems fine too. I do not use the Titan for dust collection, but have used it occasionally and it is fine. If you are using your vac for dust collection, you must use a bag as it adds another level of filtration protecting the cartridge before the motor. I use a bag with my Nilfisk and also with the Titan. If I were to buy one or the other now, I would go for the Titan as the bag is much larger than the Nilfisk and the vacuum is half the price. The bags last way longer than you would expect them to. I think that the Nilfisk is better made and the tools are better, but the vacuum itself is comparable. At around half the price the Titan is great value and you probably have better tools lying around your workshop from your Sealey machine! :-)

@@RussellPlatten thanks for you response and advice. I've got 2 Numatic machines i use for car detailing and carpets in general etc ...the George ( original one ) and a numatic NQS250B great machine but worth the price? ..no! Got a great deal or i wouldn't have bought it. I'm doing indoor renovations atm and I'll be doing some woodwork amongst other things in the workshop once its finished so just want a decent machine especially for dust extraction. Looking at your video the Titan seems fine and a good price...of course reviews vary. I looked at several Nilfisk machines but tbh the suction in the videos didn't look that great but reviews by the most were good. I think the main issue ppl have with the Titan is the quality of the accessories and diameter of the pipes but it's a bargain for what it is. A lot of detailers use them. I'm swaying more to the Nilfisk after quite a lot of research but so many models 🤯
@RussellPlatten

@@martynj-c4965 You have my sympathy as I have been where you are. I cannot say that the Titan is great for what you want, as I have not used if for that. I bought it for the pool cover. I can say that the Nilfisk will be good for what you want. I use mine all of the time for dust extraction. My gut tells me that the Titan would be fine for dust extraction over prolonged periods, but I cannot back that up with personal experience. I can say that I think the Nilfisk is not worth twice as much as the Titan. I have had the Nilfisk a few years and the Titan a few months. I use the Nilfisk in my workshop because It is set up for dust extraction and the Titan is set up for water removal. I did not want to use my Nilfisk for water so I bought the Titan. Why should you always work with an rcd
@RussellPlatten
@RussellPlatten 2 года назад
The RCD will cut off the electricity instantly if you cut through the wire whilst using a tool or get it wet and touch it. Outdoor tasks carry more risk than indoor tasks as the area can be wet or have hidden hazzards. For example in the video I vacuum around my pool. If I slipped and fell in and the vacuum was pulled in as well, the RCD would trip the power so I did not get electrocuted. My entire house is protected by a RCD. You can buy a RCD that plugs into the socket between the socket and the tool to provide protection. :-)
