The final match of the 2022 league campaign - and the jeopardy was palpable!
In this one, Wheatley will help decide who out of Farnsfield and today's opponents Papplewick & Linby gets to be Bassetlaw Championship champions and bag the only promotion spot to Nottinghamshire Premier League Div 2!
The rest of the league finished their games last weekend with Farnsfield in top spot, 12 points above P&L. A win for the visitors will see them leapfrog Farnsfield but a Wheatley victory will confirm Farnsfield as champo champs.
The scourge of Papplewick himself Jimmy Nixon stepped in at the last minute on comms for a norovirus-struck Pecky (it was messy, viewer) to bring you this pulsating title decider!

Greetings from Ayrshire , apologies I meant to message after watching this one to thank you both for providing us cricket nuts with entertainment throughout the season . Its much appreciated . A reasonable season that may have been a bit better without injuries , we wont mention dropped catches or indeed some of the dismissals when batting , lets just say those without sin cast the first stone lol . Have a great close season and look forward to yet more fun and games in 2023 .

'ey up! Thanks Mr Peck and Mr Nixon for a great season of content. I've been struggling a bit lately and it's always nice to escape and live vicariously through you legends and hearing Pecky's dulcet tones and Jimmy's...uhh, more booming tones always makes me feel better, even through the metaphorical shitstorm of life. Season MVP for me has to be Jono Ellis. Easy to say Jourd, but Jono has improved leaps and bounds above last season and looked even more dangerous than Jourd at some stages. Always contributed with the bat with the tail too with plenty of late innings runs. Was always sad to see Munch and Ainge leave early on in the season and to see less of Tongy and Mad Dog, but that's cricket sometimes and the show must go on. Enjoy a much needed break in the off-season lads! All t' best!

As the saying goes..."catches win matches" . If mad dog or tonge were behind the sticks, this game could have gone differently. Indeed, had the two chances been taken off of Jourdan's bowling, he would have topped the league for most wickets!!

All easier said than done, I’m afraid. Keeping to a chap bowling as quick as Jourd would test most keepers, let alone someone who’s simply agreed to take it on in the absence of our first and second choice keepers.

@@WheatleyTV Totally agree, but pointless bringing in a fast bowler as your pro if you can't take advantage by taking the catches. If you don't have confidence in your keeper (as a fast bowler or spinner), you stop bowling the way you would normally to take wickets (e.g., just try to bowl people out), and that removes your options/weapons. I don't think anyone is criticising the guy who has stepped in to do the job who is not a keeper, just pointing out that this is an area that would see you perform better (this is the first team?).

@@kerryobrien71 solid keepers are hard to come by, especially with a dwindling pool of players in general, but we’ve got six months now to concentrate on recruitment for the 2023 season - we’ll be putting in the hard yards!

Smashing stuff and an entertaining game. Thanks for the humorous colloquialisms and occasional anecdotes this season. Also, thanks for all the effort put in to edit and addition of farm animal noises to cover up possible foul language but honestly, I think we'd all like to hear well-crafted obscenities at times, especially when hurled at poor umpiring decisions. Looking forward to watching the cric-o-drama unfold next year and if I'm over in blighty I'll try to drop by for a game and the first shout is on me Peckster and Jimmy! Cheers, Chris from San Diego

With all due respect to the guy but is George really the best backup keeper available? Leaked an absolute mountain of runs behind the stumps this season and missing a few catches too. That will be the difference in many games…

Yes he is. George isn’t the problem - availability is. George has been able to play the whole season whereas our first choice keeper has a job that requires him to work many weekends and our back-up’s suffered broken fingers keeping to Jourd. Not easy trying to keep to a guy bowling thunderbolts when you’re a reluctant third choice stumper. Give him a break.

Fair comment. Like I said, absolutely no intended disrespect to the guy. Keeping is an awful job, especially if it is not your forte. I do feel for him as somebody has to put their hand up to keep, I just feel that it might not putting his skills to best use. I takes a lot of reflexes and anticipation behind the stumps. Watching Tom at slip this season he looks to have more natural ability for that sort of role. Availability seems to be the ultimate plague for all club cricket throughout the world at the moment. Good luck going forward lads, all the best!
