I love this song because Left eye and Chili take the lead, i often felt Tboz took too many of the verses and choruses, and Left eyes raps often were cut out like with Unpretty.
Tboz is the lead singer it was a bit risky changing the formula but it worked for fan mail album left eye rapped most on the 1st album was in jail most of the 2nd
I often debate this. I know the definition of lead, but from day 1, they presented themselves as a trio. On all of the singles from their debut album, Chilli was very prominent and had her parts in the songs. Then on their second album, she had a solo song, and her bridges were often the highlights on the singles. I don’t think it was risky, because people was used to seeing her being actively involved.
T-Boz actually refused to sing back up on this because she was butthurt that Chilli got the lead. On the album version, it’s Kandy and Tiny singing back up, not T-Boz.
@@greenhornet8262 I am a TLC fanatic and that is a true, T-Boz didn't want to give Chilli the lead, she had to be convinced to do so. You can still hear T-Boz in the background singing with Kandy and Tiny. Just look it up, Google is free.
Each era they all did their thing. Fan mail was definitely Chili's era. Crazy sexy cool Tboz was the ish. First album left eye killed it. Essentially the only group where all members shined.
Marlow Seavers honestly... completely honestly I’m such a fan of both groups n used to buy actually cds n read the entire book and credits so I became the best by ear at hearing voices. I thought I was the only person on earth that could hear things like that. I felt like a dog that could only hear the dog whistle 😂. There was a time in my life I only looked up backing vocals on every song lmfao.. I’ll now go sit back at the losers table 😂 😂 😂
Sunni Dang Not at all! Diehard TLC fans catch on to the shyt like that.... and I DEFINITELY used to do the same. I gotta give it to Debra Killings tho. She’s been riding with them girls since DAY 1! Almost to the point if any1 else wuz on BGVs on any of their songs, you could QUICKLY point it out 💯
@@sunnidang5432 I’m glad you said that. Someone just posted No Scrubs and stripped XScape from the masters so all you hear is T-Boz’s vocals. Look up “No Scrubs T-Boz Vocal Sample”. Her vocals weren’t on the album version but were present on the Main Mix with Left Eye.

I didn't realize how low her voice was until now. You can tell that it's where her voice is most comfortable -- especially since they were moving around.
Her and T-boz weren't feeling well before this performance and almost didn't do the show... you can even hear it in her voice when she's speaking to Jay...
they are playing live over an instrumental track, which is the most common way this type of music gets performed: the main keyboard riff, the strings, and some of the background vocals in the chorus are part of the master recording that they are playing over.. and they are playing live guitars and drums on top of that.. so the chorus is "live" in the sense that Chilli is singing live, but they are singing on top of their own layered vocals recorded in the studio..
Thanks for sharing all the TLC videos. I love how most times they are singing live and not lip syncing. I was a young adult in their hey day. Miss them a lot. I’ve only recently realized what a genius Lisa was. ❤️
I’ve seen plenty of vids on here of TLC singing no scrubs live, and it was always left eye that sung live with her rap. Everything else was lip sync, even Chili. I think this is the only time Chili sung this song live. Tbh, I feel the other live videos they did no scrubs live chili only lip sync her verses which is so unfortunate bc she has an amazing voice and also this is the only TLC single where she sings lead. I still love them though :)
Maybe I’m high, but given what wuz going on between LaFace and the girls (particularly Lisa) during the “Fanmail” era, Lisa’s “C-E-O Scrub” comment lowkey felt like shade tho….. Lol! 😂
Its fitting seeing Cher here because they were both at their peaks in '99. Cher's "Believe" was the #1 song of the year in the US (Billboard Hot 100). No Scrubs was a runaway hit! but Believe was such a sales Juggernaut it ended up on top. "No Scrubs" was the number 2 song of the year. Same with "Waterfalls" in '95.
This song is the reason TLC don't have the love from African American men! I have been to about 10 TLC shows! I bet I could count the African American men in the show on my hands and toes! They called them out and what? Early on it was different! After Fanmail! It changed! Guess all the scrubs couldn't handle it! Strong African American women that told their men to stand up! What did they do? Well we see where we are now! Truth hurts! Don't like the truth! Change the truth! Just saying! I know it's not all! All my friends have stood up and did the right thing! They have great families and lived a great life! Tell me I'm wrong! I'm waiting! I do love debating stupid people! The truth is whatever lies you believe! If you just take one lie and believe it without looking into that lie! You are not using the brain that you where given! If you still look into it and still believe! Then go with it! But investigate the lie before you believe in the lie your told!
Holy crap that thing about the men in concerts really shocked me like wtf, seriously stopped supporting them for bashing on men? Prove them wrong then!!! Be a better person and act better for someone with sincerity!!! And yeah you're right, I think I just fell for a scrub recently. Before, I couldn't see the fact of how much I gave but how little I received and this person says "I love how we used to talk all day and how we used to play games" and stuff but now that I look at it, I'm the only one who wants to talk but he doesn't answer a thing or doesn't try to keep the conversation alive, he tells me how much he appreciates me but when I tell him the same, I get little to no response!!!! And yeah I do believe on it, I believe that he just has communication issues but this has gone too far, I want to question this person, I just want to be wrong, I want to think something happened to him and I want to help him get over that problem... that or this is the way he's always been and I won't be able to change it as much as I want to offer help... I just want to know.
@@warfu_ yeah your probably right. It was a observation that came to my head watching the video. Just back in the day it seemed like more men came to their shows. The last show I went to! There were a lot more women then men. I might not of express it or worded it correctly. It could of been a bunch of different reasons. Not just because of that song. I stand corrected.
I believe that Chili played it safe with the vocals, especially when it came to the high notes. Left Eye, on the other hand, gave an exceptional performance. The band as a whole was fantastic and truly delivered an outstanding performance. They were incredibly impressive.
