To Anyone Trying To Find Love 

When I turned 35 I decided I was no longer going to chase love. I was always being rejected and I thought I was forcing it and that it was a waste of time, money and energy. I remained hopeful that not forcing it was the solution. It wasn't. I'm 48 now and I've never known love. Right now I'm getting used to the idea that I will never find someone, never have a family of my own and will die alone. I try to enjoy life on my own but it's hard sometimes, it doesn't get easier, at least not for me. I find it astounding how easy it is for so many people to find somebody, if it doesn't work out it's on to the next partner, just like that. It must feel great to be loved and wanted.

I feel horrible ive never been in a relationship idk what im doing wrong im tired of seeing all my friends in relationship and me just sitting in a corner alone.

I didn't mind being single for a while but when this "while" turned into ages I started feeling absolutely desperate...

Ever see how it's always the ones in happy relationships that tell you that love will happen to you , and that you should love yourself first before finding someone to love you. Ironically most of them are average people with good luck, who didn't love themselves before meeting their partner. There is no recipe, no instructions, no manual to finding love. However these same people will pretend to know the "real " way to find love, which let's be honest here, isn't necessarily true.

Finding love is like winning the lottery. You either get lucky or not. Case closed.

Question: why am I single? My answer: 1. most of the people that I meet in real life are not single, especially the decent ones 2. 80% of the attractive single men I met online or bars only care about sex, try to get you in bed on the first date, etc, which I find very disrespectful 3. The rest of the 20% I might either not attracted to or I see red flags 4. When I finally found someone who we are mutually interested in each other, I later on found out that they’re not available or they disappear all of a sudden. It feels like the universe is fucking with me. In conclusion: looking for the one is like looking for a needle in the middle of ocean. I have a very happy life and I love myself fully. I’m independent and am totally good being single. People told me that I’m an amazing person and don’t understand why I’m single. Well, I don’t understand either. The universe is finding all kinds of way to stop me from meeting someone.

I’m 26. I have never had a boyfriend, so I don’t really see what I’m missing. Sometimes I think ‘you know it would be nice’, but if it’s not peaceful company - I don’t want it.

I once heard the phrase “Love is like ghosts, everyone talks about it, but very few have seen it” and it’s so true, very few have the luck to find a good partner and not to talk about being in love with someone which mostly of the times is like a curse cause mostly of the times it won’t be reciprocated.

Yeah that whole "you got to love yourself before you can love anyone else" is just a load of bs. I have loved myself for so many years and still do. I love who I am and my personality. I think I'm an awesome wonderful human being who's kind and generous and without the attachment of ego behind it. I'm so sick of that cliche saying and it's getting old. Not to mention everyone who has someone has not really truly love themselves in the first place, but they still find someone to love them for the way they are. So many people who have mental issues and they still find romantic love. So wtf. No. "You got to love yourself first" is just a load of BS.

As a 31 year old man who’s been rejected my entire life, I think it’s a losing battle and setting myself up for further disappointment to think I can one day day find love. It’s never going to happen. Look forward to dying because I don’t wanna spend the next 60 years alone and die alone at home. This is great advice. However, I do have to push back a little. I have no problem being single. Yet, I'm still lonely and want to have a partner to come home to. All my life, it's the thing I want most. All my relationships have brought me pain though so I don't know anymore. I'm still reeling from a pretty bad breakup. He was my best friend, with similar values and morals. He ended up hurting me anyway. I'm ok being single. Life keeps moving forward. I'm just sad nothing has worked out yet. And I miss my best friend.

My childhood was hell of a rollercoaster since I had to go through a lot since I was a kid,from seeing my parents fight everyday and having no people standing with me!! It's been years now,but the trauma still haunts me every now and then!!Because of my orientation,I even got physically assaulted and bullied a lot in my school!It just killed me from inside!There isn't even any support from my parents and friends! I have rarely a few people in my life who are also getting busy with their life with time!All these things have just made me so insecure that I am scared to talk to anybody!It breaks my heart when I see people around me getting somewhere in their life in terms of career or relationships!And there's me,who's been in this loop for so many years!!Thus,I always seeked validation from everywhere possible,I wanted somebody to love me unconditionally all in my life..I can say I've never ever experienced love from anyone till now!!Its gets even more worse since I am a bisexual person!!Thats an another battle to fight with myself!The people I have always found good or trusted,have always hurt me and left me making me feel empty!I have had multiple counselling sessions but yk,its just so tiring!!The feeling of being alone at the end is hard! I'm 50, I've tried finding a long term relationship for 35 years, failed.

I have a good grasp on who I am, I love myself, but I am and have always been single. Painfully so, now more than ever. A pain and a loneliness (the kind familial and platonic relationships can't fill) that just grows with time, with jumps every time I let myself get my hopes up only for them to get stomped right back into the dirt. It really feels like the main thing holding me back is that no one is interested in me and I don't know how to meet people outside of dating apps (and even then I always get ghosted). I try, I've tried, but it just feels impossible. Being single may be okay for some, but when you want to know what it's like to be in a relationship, when you're sick and tired of it, it's fucking suffocating.

I got out of my most recent relationship a year ago. I've chosen to be single to find myself again. I haven't dated since we broke up. That said, my age has me so worried that time is passing me by - that I'm missing my chance to find someone, or even that it's already too late. The anxiety and pressure I've felt about this over the last year has taken me to extremely low places. But it is getting easier. I'm starting to feel like me again. The thing is im a guy, im 19 yrs old, im becoming more and more well versed in the stoic philosophy, im an extrovert, sociable nice person. And i havent been in 1 single relationship. Im not affraid to get hurt by heartbreak, it cant be worse than the pain of never having experienced love romantic wise. I'm not in a relationship at the moment because I recently (3 months ago today) was broken up with and I need to work on myself, I need to get over her before I go into another relationship or else all I'd be doing is hurting them... I put everything I had into that relationship because it made me truly happy. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't unhappy beforehand, but I've never felt that happy. Everything just felt right when I was with her and we had a lot of fun together. This is my first breakup, and although it didn't last long. Me and her were best friends before we dated and knew each other for years, we didn't breakup because we stopped loving each other or anything like that... but we broke up because we had the worst timing. We were both transitioning to university, and with everything going on her life and in her head, and from her past. She got scared, overwhelmed, and felt like she couldn't be in a relationship anymore and despite loving me, caring about me, and saying that I am important to her and worth fighting for, she just can't because she is worried that if she pushes herself to be strong. She may end up pushing me away even more and being unhappy, so she would prefer to stay friends and work things out by herself, and doesn't know if she could return to me. Admittedly, I'm getting mixed signals from her. However, we haven't talked in almost 2 months now. Last we talked, she showed she cared about me and valued me, showed me sympathy and compassion, and reassured me that we'd stay friends. But, after her birthday party (which I was not invited to) and where a mutual friend brought up the topic of me and apparently she only said positive things about me and said it was truly because she was overwhelmed, but since then she has been ghosting me, I've sent her a couple messages but she never even opened them. However, we're still following each other everywhere, and if I upload something on Instagram, she will always view it, sometimes immediately. and she has been listening to breakup songs, or songs about the complexities of relationships and things like that. So I think she is hurting as well... I value her friendship so much, so even if we can't return to the relationship, I want to stay her friend. I admitted regret telling her my feelings, despite it bringing me some of my favourite memories. It wasn't worth losing that friendship over.

My first relationship was me just trying to be in one and that totally didn't work for me at all... Now after many crushes later I think I found the person I want to spend the rest of my life with! The scariest and most exhilarating feeling ever in my opinion. Plus this person came at a point in my life were I was feeling super shitty about myself and wasn't open for the love he wanted to give me. BUT I decided for myself (and a little for him if I'm being honest) that I would start to heal through therapy and THAT changed everything. So ya when he came into my life he changed it but it was my work on myself that really changed everything and made me more comfortable being in a relationship. I was ready and open to not only loving myself but accepting the love from someone else!

It’s true you really need to love yourself and establish yourself first. And I know being single isn’t a bad thing but I’m just a person who is meant to be a lover from the bottom of my heart. I’ve been this way since I was very very young and I always knew that I just needed to find the right person for myself. I have had 2 heartbreaks and I haven’t found my person yet (I’m still pretty young) and although part of me is scared that I’ll never find „that one person“ I won’t give up. Im 20 and I've never been in a true relationship though I've dated a few. Sometimes I feel like it's my problem that I'm not good enough. This truly resonated with me. I've always had the preconceived idea that it's impossible to be in a relationship with someone so similar to yourself. Writing this now makes me question why I ever thought that. I think I've always known that I need to be with someone who will allow me to be myself, but someone who shares the same hobbies, passions and values as myself. I want to find a life partner. A husband, lover and a friend, and the father of our children. I'm single once again because finding someone who wants this is surprisingly difficult. Yes they exist, but FINDING them is difficult. Love is hard work, and it is soul crushing when you time after time put in the time and effort, just to realise you wasted them on the wrong person. And unlike men I have a limited time to have children, so every mistake is more painful to me. Yes! All those are correct to that one million dollar question. Being a 37yr old looser guy i can totally relate to that question. I I stopped myself going to any relationship. I think my faults, my failures and my mind stopped me to approach any women. I found that person, the best friend that shared the same views with me and was ready to take on the world with me but, she made a mistake or rather "mistakes" which is really hard for me to forgive, but I know I can actually forgive but it would take time which she really doesn't have time for I guess, Long story short she broke up with me for the 4th time this year and I'm not trying again to save this relationship. I've had SEVERAL female friends who were genuinely just my friends who've told me they weren't ready for marriage/didn't believe in love/weren't looking for someone... and genuinely ALL of these girls that told me this found love within 3 to 4 months after saying this to me. I enjoyed your editing here...and your message. It resonates with me, as I have only recently come to value, understand, and love myself. My history has been one of abject loneliness. I 'morphed' into everyone...hoping to find who I was. Now I have opinions, likes and dislikes, less inner walls and way more boundaries. I just dont know what loving myself feels like. Im always hard on myself and therapists only listen to you, but never help. I dont know what it feels like. I only experienced the feeling of true love one time, but it wasn't meant to be. The euphoria feeling while I was in love felt amazing, but when it changed, it was unbearable. I made the decision never to go through it again, so 20 years on I've remained single. True love is amazing. If you find it, hold on to it and work things out. Sometimes, I wish I did.

For me I’ve just been on my own for so long I don’t even feel human anymore. Its hard for me to even have a relationship with my own parents and close friends anymore. I feel outside of my own body lost in deep thoughts and feelings within myself. I’ve purchased everything on my own, house cars, etc. and have no significant person to share them with. I’ve built my life around depending on myself, I do dishes, cook meals, cut my grass and so on. I’m just past my breaking point, and so burnt out. I have have grown so much by myself it feels weird when someone else is in the picture. Yet I have such a good lifestyle to offer to someone. It’s frustrating but I’m just let it all go. I realize the right person will come but I told myself that years ago and here we are in the same boat. I try to keep myself happy and do things I like but it would be so much more enjoyable with someone else there. To the person I have yet to meet: I know you are are out there and have yet to meet me, I wish you could see my life now and start this journey now, that way you can see the growth and not be there afterwards. One of these days you’ll come around

For once, I would like to find someone I can care for, and actually feel like they care back. Without always feeling as though I have to look over my shoulder and worry if they’re still there with me mentally. When am I gonna be able to find someone who’s willing to put in the same effort to be with me as I am willing to put forth to be with them? Don’t I deserve that? I am sure, my life will end someday with a physical disease or an injury or anything else like everyone's life also. Oh my god, I feel so resonate with what you are saying because I noticed that I have this problem of searching for love but I have never thought of why I am so desperate in finding love. Thank you for taking it into a next level of finding yourself instead. I honestly think that it is a self discovering process that everyone has to go through because we never truly love, see, understand and admire ourselves. We want a person come into our lives to mend everything and makes us love, see us and understand us. However no one can do that job because they aren't you. We cannot be there broken and dont understand ourselves but hoping someone can uderstand us 100%. That's too demanding for others right. The biggest take away for me is that we have to find out the ultimate reason behind the urge of searching for love somewhere else instead of yourself. I’ve spent countless years bettering myself for myself and eventually any people that come into my life that I come to care for and love. I’ve also been single lots of those years with some “lessons to learn” type boyfriends as opposed to loving, long term type partners. I’m sick of believing I’ll be ok with remaining single my entire life! I want genuine love, damn it all. I’ve given and given and given with no returns. Those men did not know how to love and were as selfish as toddlers. I’m also a part of the population that has a naturally low libido though so I guess I’m shit out of luck, huh? I’ve had to convince myself that I like remaining single simply because too many people are mad horny all of the time and it gets in the way of a loving companionship type deal. About a time ago when the people happened to encounter someone used to pick it up their oportunities, because it could be only "that time", the thing is that today the breakups are ridiculously traumatizing Scrolling the social media you will see sooner or later someone that you like or one ex girl/boy friend with someone doing things that couples do, so imagine seeing someone that once sayed to you that you were the love of his life, in a photo, kissing, hugging and saying the same thing in a publication but for other person, right in your screen many times...

im 14. ive stayed away from dating my whole life all because im looking for the perfect person for me.. now that im in highschool, i feel like thats been a terrible idea. ive been asked out several times throughout 8th grade but i rejected them all because it didnt feel right. all of my friends have partners and dates for hoco while i dont all because im still waiting for the right person. idk what to do anymore.

I think that I do not have quality that could you stand out for love and secondly I do not want to make the first move ever. I feel like if i try to talk with someone they'll see me as desperate and I will never put myself is such a position. NEVER.

I would love to share my life with a man, take care of him, love him, respect him, be loyal to him, and spend the rest of my life with him. But past relationships have left me so broken that I feel I don't have the strength to invest in another relationship physically, mentally, and emotionally. It's just too much. I can move heaven and earth to avoid feeling miserable when you get cheated/abandon by the love of your life. I have trust issues now. And I don't know how to love again.

I have gone 18 years without being with anyone else and it sucks nobody else has been with me offline since not being with my ex-spouse that I was only with for 17 years no longer though and haven't been with anyone the full 18 years anyone else it's really really hard and difficult anymore and I'm not doing long distance with anyone and I don't want to be someone's side piece or that's all they're wanting I just can't do that

Being in a relationship and being alone is just as bad as being alone alone. There’s no great thing about either life is about experiences and creating and making those memories with people not ALONE. Otherwise we wouldn’t need companionship as humans from other humans.

Absolutely nothing has worked for me . Black white Asian Arab I had em all. I been engaged twice and it failed been sooo good to ppl and just failed like the DAMN WOMAN SAY IM THR BEST BF THEY EVER HAD!!!!! Idk what he saying bout best friend is true I thought I had best friend n women just to get hurt for no reason. Like no reason at all woman are unstable n crazy . I just give up. Sad . Out of 5 siblings I’m the one not married . Sucks going to family events and you’re the 1 there by yourself . Smh but stay positive tho

Yeah, I've been single for 27 years. Met some women I liked, but they were already taken. However, I was wondering if I should invite this woman to a swing dance next month. She used to work at the bakery I go to a lot, and we chatted and connected so many times. On her last day, she said my coffee was on her. One day, I ran into her at the bar. We chatted, and I said something about her bravely coming out of her shell better than me (however I worded it) because of her singing karaoke during her first time here. Not long after, when she and her friends were singing again, she gestured me toward them and pointed to the lyrics on the screen. What's funny is I had told her I didn't like being in the spotlight during the said "out of shell" conversation. Not to criticize her action and encouragement! Just saying it's interesting and I'm wondering about her motive, perspective, and if it could've meant something. What do you guys think? We had always gotten along so well at the bakery. Should I ask her to be my date for the event next month, should I run into her? I don't have her number.

What could one do to start finding love and a relationship in the first place? I just think no one will ever love me in that way and will die alone forever. Simple. My crushes dated my friends, i never saw one of them interested on me besides my body. I confessed and i was refused made fun of and my friends have guys running after them like crazy and me? No one answers. Or at least not formore than sex or laugh. My friend tells me that'll i'll find someone. I think that person died in birth. Honestly. It's easy to say when you date a person after another. I never had a kiss, or a hug, not even a "yes".
