In this video, I will describe step #2 of the skill of emotional self-regulation, where step #1 refers to understanding your emotions, being able to distinguish them from each other, identify them, and name them.
You can be aware of an emotion at a particular moment of time. It is necessary for the purpose of getting rid of impulsive unreasonable behavior, in order to not take actions that you will be later sorry for.
To be aware of an emotion means 1. to understand what situation cause an emotion, 2. to recognize what you think about that situation, 3. to recognize which emotion it is, 4. to understand your physical reactions, 5. to understand how you are going to act under the influence of this emotion.
It is important to recognize your prevalent emotional reactions over time in order to get rid of emotional problems.
In order to do that, you should be filling in a table of negative thoughts over the course of several weeks. You need to find and get rid of automatic negative thoughts that are behind your negative emotions.
Also, in this video, I will explain why it is very important to listen to your positive emotions.
