Awesome review! If you're interested, the reason these jeans are not bulletproof/resistant is not because of the material itself, but the layers of it. Kevlar vests usually have 15 layers and more of while these jeans have less.
I have been riding with these jeans for about 2 years ,and i feel the same for the looks and feel. Now i took the opportunity to order the dark horse vest for black friday discount sales to add to a all around Comfortable and save gear
Thanks for your review. Do you have any idea how these jeans waist sizes compare to say Levi’s 501’s. And when you say they loosen up a bit as they wear in, did you buy a smaller size than normal?
Definitely do not buy a smaller size than normal! For the first few weeks I wished I’d bought a larger size, but by the time they broke in, they were perfect.
I don’t know if this helps but I normally wear Levi’s 559. I’m short, thick legs. I wear them in a 34 waist. The size 38 Tobacco jeans fit exactly the same. A little relaxed in the waist nice fit around the thighs. From my experience Tobacco goes with a true measurement sizing. Use a tape measure, compare with the chart.
So for me -- Its all about safety. Next of course is the looks. I like everyone watching are looking at Tobacco because they look like normal selvedge jeans. I'm just scared shitless that the jeans will rip on a drop -- and protection is the point of these jeans... I can find great looking jeans in a lot of places for $300+. My question; did you investigate the entire market before buying this brand?
I did not investigate the entire market before buying these. I didn't even know there was a market before buying my first pair. However, I did try on a few different brands and styles before buying my second pair. For me, the TMC jeans are the right mix of comfort/style/protection. After all, we all have to accept some level of risk every time we ride.
