Why? It's a loaded question. And also a trap. Every parent wants their kid to be curious. But not like that. Why? Cuz it's really annoying sometimes. That's why.

I absolutely love how you don't show your toddlers, but your teen (who understands what being on the internet entails) gets to join in some of your videos!

That's what I like about her. She teaches her kids "this is how you do things" then when they get older to understand things better, she gives them a choice of how they want to do those things. Her smaller children aren't yet old enough to make that decision to be on camera, but get older one is and made the decision to be on camera.

I eventually started answering the why's with "what do you think?" and then progressed into "just to make you ask that question" .

My child is a preschooler and somehow I find it very amusing to answer some of his questions the way you did. Just to see what part will he remember and spit it out somewhere (probably at an improper place) out of the blue 🤭🤣

That’s a thing. I used to talk to my nephew like he was my peer and he would pull out gems sometimes. My favorite was when the pediatrician asked him his favorite color and he responded with “Shh… I’m contemplating” when asked a question by the pediatrician (at 2).

I am not a parent but I really enjoy all your videos. I grew up with a lot of "because I said so" and "as long as you live under my roof" etc. I wish these responsive parenting philosophies had been available when I was a child, I would have saved a lot on adult therapy. :)

I was feeling the same way today, my Grandson is 7 and if he doesn't understand something, he will keep asking questions relentlessly until he works it out in his brain. I do confuse him though sometimes because when I have reached the end of explanations I think he can understand I end up explaining whatever it is like I would to an adult. This has led to some interesting messages from his Mom after he gets home, because he absorbs every word I have said, like a sponge absorbing water, however it never comes out the same as it goes in it has led to some very interesting conversations with my daughter trying to explain what we were originally talking about after he gets done telling her what Grandma taught him.

My toddler is not yet fully into the why phase but these explanations are actually gold for when it does happen. And your systems explanation for laundry actually helped me understand my ADHD brain that does in fact not know where things are if they're not in their spot 😅 I just spent 3 extra minutes looking for my lunch for work because my husband put it on an open space in a shelf one shelf above the one our lunches are usually on 🤦🏻‍♀️
@elihaugen2971
@elihaugen2971 Год назад
wow... really impressive explanations. society needs more of this. many people say children are stupid, (except their own of course) I always say they are only as stupid as we let them be, and if we don't take the time to explain things they don't learn things either. so I think this video is a wonderful example of how it can be done.

@Ecstasia1
@Ecstasia1 Год назад
I also heard the 'look it up' a lot - but only after my mom answered "actually, I don't know that" me of course: "why??" she: "because people cannot know everything" me: "why?" she: "because there is more information than we can learn in a lifetime, but let's look this one up!" I think she just saved herself from an existential crisis of "what the bleeeeb do we know???" there...

Haven't hit why yet. We got stuck in the "ooooh .... what's THAT?" stage for a bit. I remember being at the store one time, and some old vietnam vet about fell out of his scooter buggy when I very calmly replied, without missing a beat "that is a thermonuclear reactor. This particular grocery store is trying to summon Godzilla." "Oooh .... otay!"
