Scent introduction works wonders wear a white t shirt for a day no deodorant or cologne place pieces of it in the safest places of the enclosure. Eventually your tokay will associate your scent with safety that should help with the problem of them jumping and getting out of dodge when your handling them. Feed them out of your hand lay your hand flat with food in it inch it closer and closer if they open their mouth stop moving wait until they calm down if they run feed them normally and don't try again for awhile.
@@HyperBeastCommunity because a lot of snakes and lizard types can be relatively tamed with frequent handeling. Tokays just remain assholes no matter what. I'd trust a monitor that was raised a lot more than a tokay to not bite
Sorry for the late reply! He's a cutie haha he actually is now recovering from a parasite and should start to fatten up. once he is in good health i will slowly work with him.
Cheyenne Exotics parasites are extremely common in wild-caught tokays, and pet stores don't sell CB as a rule. Also, they CAN clamp down, the longest I've had one clamped is 20 minutes. It's not as bad as you'd expect.
Lady Vader I have one to I just got it the only thing is that I’m scared when it barks and I’m kinda scared to get bite not gunna lie could give me any advice on how to get them to know you better ? Cause I’ve had mine for 2 days now and I let him get used to his inclosure but every time I go to go near him he barks at me is their anything I could do to try to get him to know me a bit better so he calms down on the barking ?
I have a little female. After a month of introducing my hand twice a day, I can now stroke her tail, feet and back without her reacting or running away.
Great facts. Dude. I had a tokay gecko handled him with my bare hands the best way to really get them to calm down is to gently rub the sides of them. They do like that.
😂😂😂 Okay you're adorable. On top of that loved this gecko, he looks like a lot of fun (hopefully fingers will not be mangled). Been wanting one for years, the bite doesn't scare me because of previous experiences, but the bark is not something suited for apartment living. They bark so loud 😂😂 Good on you for giving him a safe home and a chance!
Thank you so much for this video, I had a lot of fun and learned a ton. What a cute guy! I almost caved and got one yesterday and got one myself, but that bite tho!
I love how you talk to him! I'm about to add a Tokay to my collection so am watching as much as I can. I'm glad you got him and hope he ends up happy and healthy!!
Uhh there are scientists on RU-vid who keep tokey geckos in Tupperware containers. I'm pretty sure they just hide behind rocks and feel safe in small spaces.
@@KidArkx even if they do just fine in tupperware, don't start telling me thats the ideal setup for them. Any animal would rather live in an environment that mimics their natural setup. Being hidden away all day is not good even for nocturnal animals. In all cases its more about the efficiency of the owner, not for the benefit of the animal. Do these "scientists" have actual proof that animals thrive better in tupperware? I would like to challenge you on that :)
Tokay Geckos are an arboreal species. As most geckos are, i have a juvenile leopard gecko in a 20 gallon tank and a bearded dragon in a 60 gallon tank and a juvenile crested gecko in a 8 x 8 x 12 tall enclosure. he may also be so extremely aggressive because he isn’t in a enclosure that mimics his natural habitat. you need a tall tank!
We have one in our house. We saw him on my sister's room about 2 year's ago. He was a little cute lizard back then. He is now about a feet long. We don't touch him , don't give him water and food. We don't know where he eats and poops. We can only see him when he shows himself. Cool thing is he always do this gecko sounds when someone arrived in our house like his greeting us. I really do wanna touch him but my parents forbid me. I think he is doing fine he looks so much like yours but he is bigger. What do you think is the best thing for me to do? I can hear our neighbors always planning to steal him from our walls and sell him to Chinese alternative healers. They say he cost a lot.
Ghost Face lol I can understand that, most are defensive like this, but get one from a reputable breeder. Then you will know it's captive bred and will be much easier to work with
@@Saphielles I feel like you telling me that the comment is a year is doesn't change the fact that you replied to a comment that's like a month old, ha.
Just a thought..what I do with angry T's is keep them in their cork bark n seal one end. But yeah is tricky. Most are easily spooked. Love Geckos do want one one day. If I can breed some crickets.
Thank you for this video! Saw one for sale on Craigslist, and I think I know why the guy must be selling it! I bought a gecko from Petco a while back (painted) and he didn't make it, either. :( At least you tried!
Don't freak em out like that tho. Dismantling their enclosure is not a good idea. They need a space where they can retreat to and feel safe, don't ever pull them out of their safe space. Be patient, open hand in their space. Dont try and pick them up. Just try and touch his head without them biting. That's good progress.
There's a great channel by an Asian creator on socializing tokays. It's called, I can't remember what it's called. It should be hard to find. There's another called the reptile whisperer. That lady is awesome.
Is there a reason as to why he’s in that tank that is a very bad tank since they need a TALL tank at least an 18x18x24. Someone please tell me why he is using that tank rather than a taller tank
I respect you from saving this miniature pitbull from Petco. I feel the same way , I wanna save them all😔. But then they just restock them😔. I enjoyed the video, you definitely brave to handle this geckos .I don't mind the mittens😂 ✌
Yeaaaaaa, no thanks, lol. Its a cool lizard for sure, but I'd rather get something I wouldn't be 100% terrified of it hurting me. Brave man indeed though, lol.
I work at Petco and we have to force feed the pythons because our f/t mice are crap. For some reason, the snakes don't like them. Guess it's the way they're processed. Honestly, we try our best with them but the suppliers often screw us over. One supplier sent us a baby bearded dragon that was half the size of my finger. Of course, manager said to put him out on the floor anyways 🙄
so I'm considering getting this gecko. I'm a first timer and have never really had a gecko before, however I do have a large tank, a heating pad, and some good hiding spots. Would you recommend I get a different kind that's relatively cheap?
MR. ANONYMOUS I would sun if you have a heating pad you shouldn't use it with the tokay, they need a ceramic heat bulb for a constant basking spot. how big is the tank?
He's like my baby savanna monitor. He acts like a demon but when you pick him up he's a baby he will lay on your hand and let you pet him. Accept yours not the petting kind.
Garrett Thompson I need help man I got mine two days ago and everytime I go near it’s cage it barks at me how do I try to calm him down so he doesn’t bark at me cause ik I can make him friendly but idk how I’ve owned 5 ft snakes been bite once never been bitten by a lizard but I thought I’d give it a try to take care of the takoy gecko, it kinda scares me when he barks how did you calm yours down ?? I own a male to he’s still a youngin about the size of your hand with tail he doesn’t have teeth yet ether what would the best approach be ?
Cheyenne Exotics I am truly so sorry to hear that. You gave him a fighting chance which is all you could have done and more than he would of received thanks to you. The empathy you displayed is imo what is lacking in this world. You are a kind soul...please don't change.
Hes so beautiful😍 Im sorry but its not how you do it you should not take anything out just set your hand in hes house and wait wait WAIT do it everyday and he gonna know that you are hes friend good luck♥ my tokay gecko is so frendly and not biting me at all
Suicide how did you train yours I got mine 2 days ago and it’s a bastered I haven’t got bite yet but almost he’s barked at me a couple times when I was tryna feed him he was barkin at me I just kept feeding him but how do you calm them down from that he’s still young about the size of your hand will me get used to me ??
Jinraya Jirungseewattana the bite is not that bad y'all are some pussy's I have 4 when I make my other ch I'll post vids of them but I'm working on car vids fisrt
He had passed away about a month ago now, I'm not sure why. I had him for a year total and he was already an adult when I bought him. I assume he's wild caught. It may have just been old age because he was chunky lol
They dont hurt when they're little which is the best time to spend time with them to calm them down. One of the better tactics to do is to get a book or something to do while you sit next to the tank with nothing but your hand in it, slowly moving it closer and letting them get accustomed to it that way. Its a patience game.
Michael Suire the bite isnt that bad LMFAO if you can't handle a bite don't own the animals when I had my 14 foot retic she bit me 9 time sent me to the hospital 3 time for stitches
Jaime Blanco Not to be the party pooper, but these lizards will eat mice.. the males are also more aggressive than females! There are many other things about them that make them scary and very harmful.
Thai video is so old.but only 1 video about his tokay? Hmm maybe the tokay does after the dude trying to be all cocky by saying nobody knows how to care for them but him.
