Notice there are no dislikes? Thats because there is nothing to dislike about absolute talent and professionalism Allen Clark had a powerful voice this band was clean-cut, dressed properly, never in the tabloids for doing stupid things.their legendary and their music will live on forever !!
I am familiar with both singers and Allan is a wonderful world class singer. I have listened to both since they started their careers and enjoyed their singing. BUT, Tom Jones is absolutely the better singer. He is a phenomenal talent.
Musically, The Hollies were one of the greatest bands during an era of great bands. Superb instrumentalists all, with some of the most irresistible material ever committed to vinyl. Allan Clarke was one of the finest frontmen in any era. Due in part to ongoing medical problems with his vocal cords, Clarke retired from the music industry in 1999 to care for his wife, who had received a second diagnosis of cancer. His place in musical history is assured.
A true masterpiece by the hollies. 'Brother' stands alone and belongs in the 'hall.' Anytime a song 'turns you inside out', and takes you on a journey that's impossible to explain, it's worthy of high praise and accolades enjoyed by a select few singers. . The hollies and their lead singer do an excellent job and leave me grateful they recorded this masterpiece. Thank you, excellent job! I must go now and compose myself. Thanks for the unforgettable journey! You are to be commended, very few singers have this capability. Bravo!
Es emotiva canción que nos deja un gran mensaje acabo de perder a un hermano era especial y esta canción se la dedicaba primero dios lo tenga en su gloria
Great memories of growing up hearing this on the radio, the hollies one of the great bands of the 60's and early 70's sends me on a nostalgia trip in time.
Absolutely beautiful song. There Harmonies are incomparable to the Bands of the time with the exception of the Bee Gees nobody could do it like the Hollies! Absolute Legends!
When this song first came out, I hated it with a passion. I thought it was a mushy, slushy ballad not worthy of a self respecting rock group. ( I know the Hollies were more pop than rock, but still, they could surely rock when they wanted to). But Allan Clarke's amazing voice pulled me in and this song grew on me mightily! Then the harmonies.... there are no words, just a feeling of contentment and a giant smile. You know what I mean.
I always loved this song... but after losing my brother at an early age due to heroin, through all the struggles, this song really became special. Miss my only big brother...
I loved the Holles as a teen when they first appeared and this song always touched me. As an adult, I continue to love the song - maybe on a deeper level now. All members of the Hollies were terrific- Allen Clark was fabulous - so underrated! Allen and Tom Jones together ... WOW! They sounded great ... two singers with voices that were always "spot on"! Loved this video - thank you for posting.
Tom Maestro hermoso viene 15/4/2024!!!!!!!
I agree, but its natural when you consider the talent that was around in their era. Its a bit like being Andy Murray when Federer, Nadal and Djokovic are around.
Wowser. Allen is up to it, swell guy, class, loaded with talent. Heard they never had first grade management or help, and werent pushy enough on their own. Their musical and vocal superlatives were never featured and rewarded the way they should have been. They got basic rich and seemed happy and engaged throughout. They never succumbed to drugs and rot.
Anthony, thank you for this treasure I can tell that Ellen Clark is not lip-syncing he is actually belting this one out live and he was spot-on here has his the rest of the band simply fantastic! Never knew they were on the Tom Jones Show this is just a historic treasure. Thank you
@@kentduryea1741 I don't care. Though I love the Beatles, John was a jeolous guy😂 he knew how great they were and Alan sang the pants off him and their harmonies are better
@@christinedennison7770 Oh, absolutely no doubt about it, Christine. Alan Clark had a much more versatile far ranging singing voice than John Lennon. Even John didn't like his own singing voice. I too appreciate what the Hollies have accomplished. A third of their discography is in my record collection. Where Lennon's dislike of them comes from most likely is in the naming of the group. John loved Buddy Holly and the Crickets. So did Alan. That's why he named his group the Hollies.
@@christinedennison7770 Lennon liked the name Hollies better? No. In fact it was "Crickets" he wanted for a name but of course it was taken. So he thought of another insect. Beatles with an "a" was it. Weird because I read Buddy originally thought about calling his group Beetles. The Beetles almost came first in 1956. Ain't that something?
OH my Anthony. Seen the He Ain't Heavy clip a gazillion times but never the duet part. Definitely made my day seeing Allan hold his own (and then some) with Sir Tom. Legends!
Excelente, Allan, hacerle frente a una voz como la de Tom Jones no es nada fácil, repito, NO ES FÁCIL y lo hizo como si lo fuera! 👏 Una de las mejores y más versátiles voces desde UK!
Hollies either way we're good with or without Nash...I like the lead singer Alan much better...his style is good,,especially this song,,brings back memories when I was young back in 1970...
The Hollies harmonies are exceptional. Allan Clarke is no exception to the almost universal rule that other singers genuinely smiled when signing with Tom. The exception was the sour-faced Aretha Franklin.
Elvis? Roy Orbison? Linda Ronstadt? You think Karen Carpenter and her no singing ass belongs there? Ill go with Allan and John, But 3 is too limited and really Karen C was a joke back when she was supposed to be popular. She was never big.
The line-up being Bernie Calvert, Bobby Elliot, Allan Clarke, Terry Sylvester, and Tony Hicks. Bernie Calvert replaced Eric Haydock, and Terry Sylvester for Graeme Nash. Being in that line-up won't get you Elvis and Muhammad Ali, nor dancing with Elizabeth Taylor. No. But it will get you Tom Jones; and, Bobbie Gentry, in another instance. I heard it said once that the Hollies were in actually the second wave of the British Invasion.
TITJ pulled in the top musical talent of the era, particularly youth music such as The Who, Janis Joplin, Aretha, Stevie, and on and on. The Hollies were on because they were a top pop act. Crosby, Stills, NASH and Young didn't mind appearing either, singing WITH Tom.
I am a relative newcomer to youtube but this is one of the most ridiculous sets of comments I have ever read. I guess it's true, sarcasm is hard to pick up for some folks. I'll be chuckling over this all day. Love the Hollies. Enjoyed the video. I remember watching Tom Jones when I was a kid, so that's an added bonus. Thanks for sharing.
@@carlt9265 It's funny how everyone says the Hollies were underrated. To say that enough times proves they weren't underrated. I listen to their older and newer stuff. They just evolved, that's all!
Tom must have decent heels on in the second song, as they are the same height. Also, Allan Clarke was either doing a live vocal on "He ain't heavy" or he he was extraordinary at miming.
What a great song to grow up with. Alan Clark has matured so much and to see him singing with Tom Jones and the rest of the Hollies is like being in heaven. I still like it now just as much as I liked it back then, actually more because I am older and can interpret it differently. It's just one of those songs that you will never forget. For some reason it reminds me of the Vietnam War. All the soldiers that were left behind and all of those who were saved by their partners. I guess it's because of its name, HE AIN'T HEAVY, HE'S MY BROTHER. To me it says a lot about racism. It shows the camaraderie that existed whether you were black, white or any other race in the Vietnam War. Vietnam Vets like all of our vets watched out for one another. You have to remember in World War II, over a million black people fought for our country which was still very racist at this time. It's totally wrong that we were never taught about these infantries or battalions or the racism that existed back then in the USA. You didn't learn these things unless you were in a private school. It is so ironic that Hitler wanted a pure race of Germans, and our troops were from all races and all colors. I just saw a documentary about how most of the black militia did not work on the front lines in WWIi. However, the 333rd battalion, fought alongside our other troops in the Battle of Normandy and we're decimated, never expecting the artillery they were going to be hit with. The 333rd battalion are finally being recognized for this, as are other all black infantries that fought on the front lines and changed the course of the war.
