Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness is a video game that was released in 2003 for PlayStation 2 and Microsoft Windows. It is the sixth instalment in the Tomb Raider series, which follows the adventures of Lara Croft, a British archaeologist and treasure hunter. In this game, Lara is accused of murdering her former mentor, Werner Von Croy, and becomes a fugitive on the run. The game features a new graphics engine, new moves, new playable character, and a new approach to storytelling. The game was developed by Core Design, the original creators of the Tomb Raider franchise, and published by Eidos Interactive. It was intended to be the first part of a new trilogy of games that would explore Lara’s darker side and her relationship with Von Croy. However, the game suffered from a troubled development, which resulted in numerous delays, bugs, glitches, and cut content. The game received mixed to negative reviews from critics and fans, who criticized its poor controls, camera, and technical issues. The game also sold poorly compared to previous entries in the series. As a result, the planned trilogy was cancelled, and the development of the Tomb Raider series was transferred to Crystal Dynamics, a subsidiary of Eidos Interactive.
