Tongue circles may help you release tension in many places. Learn how the tongue can influence the whole body via fascia and neurology. Work up to 50 circles both ways. www.stopchasingpain.com/ #tongue #stopchasingpain #neckpain
Wow, I spent around $2k working with a reputable manual therapist to relieve jaw tension. He and I both gave up on the treatments because they weren’t working. I have been putting up with jaw tension for almost 4 years. Then I stumbled across this video earlier this week and have done 2 sets of 25 circlings in both directions twice a day for the past 6 days. I am getting significant improvement, especially noticeable when I lay down to sleep at night. Thank you for revealing this very strange but effective exercise.🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
I could never imagine anyone doing such a video as this. I did the 25 circles each side and it feels like my upper jaw muscles went to the gym. My face hurts from my jowls to just below my eyes. I never imagined so many muscles in the face are involved in this. I can feel that this is like a natural facelift. Fantastic video excellent data thank you so much, best wishes
It's crazy huh? I did this shtuff as a kid cuz I was a weird one. The jaw gets sore but when you can open it and your jaw cracks, your shoulder core muscles sink in and stability comes from the feet and hips... it's incredible Edit: I should say it's been a few decades since I trained at all. I've gotten married, kids, a career and have grown up and left childish things behind... now my back hurts, can't bend over, tongue sucked to my lower teeth. One foot pulling up, one crushing down and leaning. Head forward looking at my screen. My suggestion: do childish things and touch some grass. ❤ roll around on the ground an hang upside down
This is the kind of thing that gets me pumped about being a human. A few years ago i discovered that exaggerated facial expressions helped me to process repressed emotions. There are so many muscles in our face and head, and so many limiting beliefs in society about what "acceptable behavior" is. From a young age we pick up on societal ques to repress facial expressions, body movements, stretchs, the urge to run and play, sing and dance, make random noises. Thank you for sharing such a simple exercise with such powerful benefits.
Omg! Thank you for your comment. With me being ADHD/autistic I have a flat affect. I don't want a flat affect. I will try exaggerated facial expressions! Thank you!❤
I return here after three months after the video, and the experience has definitely been transformative for my overall wellbeing, particularly with my TMJ, neck, swallowing issues, emotional wellbeing and even my somatic tinnitus. Combining the techniques I learned here with proper tongue placement and collarbone massage has significantly accelerated my recovery. Thank you so much. Even my speech therapist at the hospital can feel so much more positive changes. To anyone reading this, my sincere hope is that you experience positive changes like I have. Wishing you all the best on your journey to recovery.
I was born with my tongue stuck to the mandible, no mobility whatsoever. Nobody noticed it. I struggle hugely, learning difficulties plus bullied as I couldn't speak properly. They thought I was autistic or "retard" this was the 70's. At age 9 the school authorities decided to transferring me to a special needs school as I repeated 3 times 2nd year. I internally knew I was intelligent but I couldnt express myself. The last teacher that carried out the transfer assessment, kindly asked me to stick out my tongue and the rest is story - I remember her face a mix of surprise, happiness and anger, that nobody else assessed my tongue before, At 10 I went into surgery and my tongue was released and that little kid of me started thriving and I never stopped learning. Thank you for sharing this exercise hugely important.
I have a tongue tie. Not as bad as yours, I don't think. But I am 40 and just learned that I have a tongue tie about 3 years ago. All these different dentists I went to... specifically one I went to for 16 years and nobody told me. I can't even do this exercise. I'm looking into tongue tie release now because I think it may be the root of my neck and jaw tension 😢
15 circles each direction and my ears popped and sinuses cleared. Something is definitely happening with this. I will be practicing this to see what happens. Thanks for sharing.
Anyone remember being a child and doing things like this? I think it’s the spirit of being in the freedom of exploration. No judging, no worry, just carefree. It was healing and we didn’t think about it.
100% You know those funny videos about people doing "stupid" stuff at the gym, like playing with gravity with maches they hook their ankle to, and they go flying and sh*t like that 😂 I love it!! Adults need playgrounds too! Places where we can just explore our body movements and fluidity or lack thereof and not only learn from it but rejoice in it too! Gyms are a boxed type of adult playground. The problem is that they very specific.
i remember doing so much yoga as a kid just while watching tv but one day i had my butt in the air and my older brother called me gay so i started to just sit there from then on in a normal sitting position. you are totally correct. nature knows what nature needs. we've just became so unnatural
As a therapist now imagine, before you do the circles if you spent 10 minutes working inside the mouth!!!!!! Its over 12 muscles that insert into the tounge, plus working pytergoid muscles Your tiunge will really thank you. Imagine spending 5 minutes skin rolling the neck!!!! Your tounge will be crazy free!!! Alot will change and happen Then do the exercises.
In Chinese Medicine, the tongue is directly connected to the heart. I work a lot with getting students to relax the tongue but I'm going to start training this myself and giving it to my students.
Well said, from an AHPRA-CMBA (government agency-national board) Registered TCM Practitioner here in Australia 🐉😛 (tcm students, practitioners, and patients will understand the last emoticon)
Thank you Lord!!! This is amazing- I have been suffering with severe tension headaches in the back of my head and neck for 15 years. Two days of performing this exercise and my head and neck are sooo relaxed. It has been years since I felt this way. Thank you for posting this video and I pray God blesses you
Yes. 68years young and you gave me the last best piece of the puzzle to have a body that is free of tensions that been causing injuries all my life. Thx a lot 🙏😊
I had a serious neck injury from helping lift a piano about 6 years ago. I am also a singer and whenever I would sing afterwards the notes would get all choked off and I would experience severe throat pain on the back right side of my throat. I never knew how to properly release this tension for years. Of course, I did everything I could to minimize pain by doing vocal exercises, stretching, doing yoga, eating healthier etc. But it never truly released that muscle deep in my throat/neck. The tightness got so bad, that it was difficult to swallow foods, breath a full breath of air, and speak for extended periods of time. In fact, I couldn't get enough air in my lungs because of the tightness, which fatigued my voice. As a result, my diaphragm suffered and felt this sharp pain that also made me feel like I had a hernia.. It kept getting worse, UNTIL I began focusing on my tongue.. I was shown an exercise where I was to stick out my tongue and hum scales up and down. After this---years of sharp pain in my throat---completely went away in just 10 minutes, and suddenly I could breath through my right nostril..IT WAS MY TONGUE THE WHOLE DAMN TIME! Then, this video in particular shows up in my timeline.. The anatomy trains image of the fascia clears up my years of questions regarding my deep pain. This is the best and most niche content that I have ever seen lol. Thank you!!
Holy moly, my occipital were on FIRE! 20 on each side was all I could do. Given how I felt that happening in the back of my head, I know it was doing something.
I have TMJ and forward head posture and get terrible headaches from muscle spasms. I've done tongue thrusting, but this is a game changer. It's a part of my attack plan now. Thanks!
Same here. I’m going to start trying this every night before bed so far nothing has worked for my TMJ. I’ve tried PT and I’ve tried wearing a night guard and nothing is helping! Really hoping this works!
I just want to say a resounding thank you for this, as I have been contending with symptoms related to the dysfunction of the tongue for many years. And after doing this once, just 20 times each direction, my kidneys felt tingly later on in the day. Even more, I was able to empty my bladder completely, without it stopping short. This clearly provided a release of tension. I'm a movement teacher and do not know how this was not on my radar previously. Again, thank you!
@summits100 - I doubt you could *feel* your *_"kidneys"_*_ tingling._ We *can't feel* most of our internal organs working, except when we have pain - and even then, we rarely can identify _which _*_specific_*_ organ_ it is - just the _general area_ in which it occurs, i.e. stomach/gut, chest, groin, and in women, the uterus (typically due to period cramps, ovarian cysts, or pregnancy).
@@wholeshebang1Well, to be fair that tingling may be due to my adrenals. As they are neighbors, it is very difficult to know exactly which one is responsible for that. But moreover, what each individual is able to feel in their bodies differs greatly.
This exercise triggers massive anxiety in me, but I have a nervous system dysfunction. I can do it, but only 3-5 at the time. So far it has fixed a neck injury I've struggled with for 6yrs! I can feel a difference even in my pelvis! I think the reason I get so panicky is because years of misalignment in my body begins to shift and although it's a good thing, my nervous system is very jumpy. Thank you for this ❤
I have same issue! My body was horribly misaligned. I always felt like a big corckscrew bring twisted in the earth when I’d walk. I received Atlas / back adjustments very slowly with subtle precision instrument. As my body has changed it really freaks my mind out. Meditation and connecting to higher self have been the cure. And diet with lots of walking. I never thought my body could be fixed but here I am.
Just want to give an update to anyone wanting to see if this works; YES! I have done it on and off after how much strain i could give my muscles and my tongue. Ever since the video was uploaded 4 weeks ago. Right now in this moment i am writing this: about 15 minutes ago, my tongue, throat, back neck and jaw moved upwards and inwards (towards my back) and my hearing became normal again, ( ive lived under water for years obviously), my bite is good also, i felt it off for years now and had bite issues, gridint teeth etc etc, lots of trauma from past, ptsd etc, but its all good!... The past 4 days my hips and lower abdomen have been hurting like i was doing gymnastics. This is really unbeklievable! As i am sitting here writing other places in my body is loosening up and tightness leaving.
@@stopchasingpain Thank YOU sir, for using your time and knowledge for helping others. I must also say that i have followed your other videos and "to do's" for lymph massage. I broke out with infections, eye sty ( idk the name in english ) Simply i got much worse before it became better...
We hold trauma in our hips and shoulders many times. If you can get those areas to free up there is hope ahead! I’m praying for you and me to release all the stress that we have carried.
I have a back pain since Christmas, I did 50 each side, the pain went from 6/10 to 2/10 almost in an instant. and it's still dropping.... just wow! and thank you! I will be doing this often from now on.
Jeepers, this makes me yawn like mad! Through EFT (emotional freedom technique, aka tapping), I've learned that yawning can be a sign of emotional release, and it sure feels like this is exactly what's happening here. Great wee exercise, I will certainly keep coming back to it, especially that it released the tension in my neck pretty much instantly. Thanks a mill for sharing! 👍
@@kwool5151 Just wondering, I had a cat with a fairly short petting fuse, but just before she would lash out from the overstimulation, she would have an enormous yawn or two! If I stopped petting her then, there was no attack at all, but if I gave just one more her teeth and claws would draw blood! Was she releasing stress, but failed if I added any more, cuz it was too intense for her?
So THAT'S why I used to yawn so much whilst doing energy healing; would yawn about 30 times in a row haha. Makes sense, good to know that it's a physiological response of releasing!
Wow. Just wow. I've been stretching my legs, my back, my neck, and shoulders, for MONTHS. 5 minutes of concentrated tongue circles and just wow, I feel loose again. Bless you
I have hypermobile EDS and the tongue is sooo important!!! Seeing this is so cool...I've been doing tongue exercises for ages... Doing these type of exercises can completely realign my everything fast❤
Yes, what @HerbandCindy said - I don't have EDS but other issue and have tongue hypomobility and discoordination - I am very interested in where to get more info re: tongue exercise/rehab.
I’ve been working on tongue strengthening for awhile but have NEVER come across this exercise before! My tongue is extremely weak even with doing to exercises…this is getting to my weak spots! This is literally was I was looking for and didn’t even know it earlier today when I thought to myself, there has to be a way to strengthen the back and sides. Thank you for this!
wow, I fractured my lower jaw in a fall 40 yrs ago, finding this video today is A MIRACLE ! I'm doing the tongue circles, subscribed, following you. Hope others share about their experiences to remind us to continue til it's habitual....I often get headaches and a therapist told me I clench my jaw....
I had studied anatomy chains before but I only studied the superficial ones and had never heard of deep core line! This video is very inspiring! Thanks so much 👍🏻👍🏻
wowww that was instant relief! This is the second video I have watched from you where I get immediate relief. Aftere doing tthis, I instantly felet relaxed. My face, jaws, shoulders released tension, and I began to breathe in my belly. Then I instantly felt sleepy
Wow! So I’ve been doing diaphragm breathing for a while and getting results. Did just 1 set and my entire center of gravity is different. Complete gem! Breathing is also 10x better instantly.
This is a great addition to another exercise I do from Dr. John Grinder called the NLP Tongue Drop. Thank you for your amazing contributions to knowledge!
goodNESS. This brought so much awareness to how much tension I was holding on to. I kept having to remind myself to breathe and noticing everything tensing up. Thanks for this.
The best way to work on your tongue is to learn Sanskrit where each sound has a specific position and action of the tongue. Besides that Yoga has lots of exercises ( mudras ) for the tongue. What to say about diaphragm work and pranayama. Yoga is powerful and scriptures already talk about all this topics . Thank you for the modern perspective though ❤
@@imperfectly_megan indeed. British colonization tried to erase their culture big time. Now India is coming back stronger than ever. And the old tradition is impacting society very strongly. From mindfulness to yoga, coding, phonetics, philosophy, mathematics, spirituality... 🤗
I've been trying to solve this 'mystery' for years and didn't know how to resolve it. Going through a major flare up this week....then your video appeared! Mystery solved! Thank you, thank you, thank you❣
Gyms aren't necessary, but I'd argue weight bearing exercises are absolutely essential to health. A barbell and plates, or at least some sandbags or kettlebells, can and will pay dividends.
@@KeterMalkuth Organized workouts aren't as necessary when your physical activity level is high and part of your everyday life. Definitely a must for sedentary folks who do not have much. So, I give that same advice to my clients that do not have weight bearing work, or otherwise hike and cycle.
Thank you! I have a severe tongue tie but i did my best. My jaw popped, but then i succeeded in not moving my jaw. i feel better now. I will do my best to be consistent. I get myself to the gym every week to lift weights, i can do this.
Definitely something magical with tongue. I had a physical therapist test my arm/shoulder strength, with and without pressing my tongue to the roof of my mouth. Amazing the difference in strength! Something to do with the tongue pressing on the roof of your mouth begins yhe engagement of your entire spine...the ultimate in core strength. Thank you for this video 😊
i can't express how much of problems have been solved by instinctively training my tonuge and when i watched your videos , you absolutely provided more knowledge and insight on why it alleviated so much of my day-to-day back and leg pain and also gaining extra endurance and stability .. u r the best keep it up
My mind is blown. I just learned today my Tibialis Posterior is contributing to my hip pain. Then in this video you show the fascial connection between all these muscles that are dysfunctional in my body. PS my jaw feels much more relaxed.
My tibialis posterior issues have caused catastrophic issues with my hip and low back and jaw and it's all connected. So many doctors look at me like I'm nuts. They really aren't trained in neurosensory stimulation and connection. Tracy I'd love to hear how your journey is going. You sound so so similar to me!
@@davidf1211 My journey has been so confusing. So many muscles are involved in my dysfunction that I can't tell where it's coming from. My pain is from muscle tension on the right side of my body: TFL, erector spinae, psoas, QL, adductors, all around my lower leg (my ankle locks up because of muscle tension). I have pain in my lower leg and deep in my hip. I had two bad ankle sprains that contributed to muscle imbalances (which didn't cause pain until recently). Then after squatting with light weight, the imbalances shifted my pelvis and I've been in pain for 1.5 years. My current physical therapist is focused on building my right glute medius and maximus. The exercises are helping me activate those muscles, but I still have pain. It's like my pelvis isn't in the correct position to use those muscles in day to day activity. I'm going to see a posture specialist tomorrow. I keep seeing content about PRI and I'm curious about it since it's a holistic approach to treating the body. What are you experiencing?
This was excellent. I’ve done this before and it benefits me greatly. So my jaw fatigued behind the jaw, I sighed once and continued to breath ok. No jaw movement, some fullness in my ears a few minutes after I stopped. Many thanks,
Very interesting. I got almost a burning sensation in my occipital muscles and galea after 10 circles and had a gag reflex after 15. Guessing that's a sign I need to continue!
Just gave this a try for the first time. I feel more alert. And, weirdly, the awful discomfort I've been feeling (and often do feel) in my neck/upper back & shoulders/head changed. In a way I feel more pain, but it feels "good" if that makes sense. Maybe it's the pain coming after the release of some of the tension. I found it impossible to get my tongue fully over my top row of teeth without moving my jaw, so I settle with just tracing the inside of the lip itself. Maybe I'll get more reach as I practice? And I'll definitely keep practicing. Thank you so much for this exercise, and the work you do.
Holy cow! I jad no idea the tongue was connected so much to all of this!! I'm going to start this today! I've been desperately searching for something i can do in hopes of avoiding a fusion of the 3 bones in the center of my right foot so i don't literally walk on the inside of my ankle! It's been through one surgery that made it worse, general physical therapy and it collapses my foot and causes a heck if a lot if pain & other issues! I am very intrigued!! I'll save this video & post updates!
Holy crap, doc. I’ve had a problem with one side of my tongue (I think for my whole life, only noticed it a couple years ago tho) where one side of my tongue doesn’t swallow? An extension to this (I’m positive they’re related, but maybe not) the same side as this I have other symptoms: that sinus is blocked 90% of the time, that ear “crunches” when I move my jaw around (and is prone to infection in the Eustachian tube) and finally that same LUNG doesn’t work properly - like it doesn’t cough when I cough, and sometimes really restricts my breathing. But I just did this exercise for 25 reps each direction and MY TONGUE FEELS LIKE ITS SWALLOWING PROPERLY. Instant subscribe. I’m looking forward to some results and what other amazing info you share! God bless.
I can seriously feel the whole inside on my bad side loosening up. My ear feels better, lung - everything. I don’t wanna get my hopes up but I think you just freaking cured me.
