@JaySay
@JaySay Год назад
If you were to pin down the 'sound' of Tool over their entire career together, it would absolutely be found within Aenima and/or Lateralus. Aenima has that angst and sarcastic comedy from their earlier years, and Lateralus goes hard into the trippy, melodic greatness that Tool has mastered today.

Idk why Aenima gets so much praise I personally think it sounds awful compared to how good the others sound I will say, idk if you know this, or how true this is, Bottrill recorded Danny’s drums sideways ! Meaning instead of normal headphone on hi-hat to your left like your sitting at drums , just like every other record since beginning of time, he has them reversed with hi-hat on right, etc….. Which I personally think is amazing and one reason why the album has such a unique sound I don’t HATE the production, but songs like hooker with a penis sound like they were recorded in a tin can for some reason 🤷‍♂️

I saw them in Tacoma, WA after concerts opened back up. Thankfully, Maynard's lungs were back to normal. He belted out the Grudge scream and it was on point. That was such a great concert, I'm hoping they go out at least one more time. I'd love to see them again and again

I still claim Undertow is my favorite record. What Sylvia Massey was able to get from them was amazing. 10,000 days was recorded in the same studio, i hear. They really got into the math by Lateralus, but i sometimes miss when they were just a pissed off drop D rock band.

A band that doesn't get enough love on RU-vid is 10 Years. I recommend them, and am curious to hear your thoughts on them. Some tracks to star with: 'Wasteland' 'Fade into (the Ocean)' 'Silhouette of a Life' 'Minus the Machine' 'Miscelanea' + 'Moisture Residue' 'Insomnia' 'Cut the Cord' Should give a good spread of their work. 😀 Even if you don't, I love your analysis. Keep it chill. Awright! 👍

I'm in a tool cover band and it took me months of research to figure out this songs "synth" is Maynard turning a megaphone in and off, and the "plinky" clicks at the start are Adam picking the G and B strings on the guitar BEHIND the bridge...

Honestly amazes me how you can hold yourself back from just exploring their whole discography in your own time outside of reaction videos, surely the temptation is immense!? Unless of course you're just very good at acting like you've never lestened to it before, haha! I'd definitely watch a video/stream of you doing an album reaction if you ever did that one day, that'd be dope. Peace and love, brotha ✌🏻😎❤️

13:33 such a great, unexpected transition, then the addition of the guitar at 13:45. Just epic. I love the quieter moments like those just as much as when they let it rip.

I'm still here Geebz! Also the very first time I saw Tool (Seattle 2001) they played this live. The weird "synth" noises you're hearing during the intro is actually Maynard with a voicebox of some sort.

I think that the ‘your own eulogy’ line is a reference to David Miscavige’s announcement about L Ron Hubbard in 1986. It turns out that Hubbard didn’t ‘die,’ he ‘dropped his body.’ There are other L Ron Hubbard and Scientology references in the lyrics.

Hi Geebz! Thanks for coming back to some more Tool! (Tongue in Cheek - my favorite reactions by you). Just an FYI, the "Mono Synth" that you were talking about (~6:22 mark) is actually Maynard using a mic with modulation where he does the "Dat-Dat....Dat-Dat...Dat-Dat..." David Bottrill was the producer/engineer on this album. Stay Safe!
@Biscuits333
@Biscuits333 Год назад
So far, I haven't seen anyone mention it. If memory serves me correctly, this was written in some form or fashion about the late comedic genius, one of the greatest philosophers to ever hold a mic, Bill Hicks. I could be wrong but I'm almost certain as the last song on this record starts with an excerpt from William Melvin (Bill) Hicks himself. Making the reference of "I think drugs have done some good things". Look into Hicks if you're unfamiliar. He used to perform on the old Late Night with David Letterman show after Carson an awful lot which is how I, as a very young kid, became familiar with Bill Hicks. Keep up the most excellent work, good sir. Thoroughly enjoy your reactions, man!! 🤙🤘🥃
